Waste management is now a major global concern. Therefore, the circular economy (CE) and sustainable technology have become the necessary means of achieving sustainable business development. In this study, we conduct an analysis of the waste recovery sector in Spain to determine whether the most innovative and socially aware companies complied with sustainable development goal (SDG) 5 (gender equality) and SDG 8 (decent work and growth) during the period 2019–2021 (pre-Coronavirus Disease 2019, (pre-COVID-19), during COVID-19, and post-COVID-19). To this end, based on factors comprising economic and financial variables, the companies were grouped via a cluster analysis using the k-means method; they were linked to the SDGs (5 and 8) in order to determine the compliance of this sector. The results indicate that the technological transformations carried out by the waste valorization companies were reflected in their financial performance, with an increase in revenues of 61 % between 2019 and 2021; all clusters complied with SDG 8. However, despite promoting business transformation, social change, sustainable technology, and CE, these companies are far from compliant with SDG 5; indeed, a setback in social development was observed, with a significant decline in the number of women in positions of power after COVID-19. This therefore constitutes one of the greatest challenges for companies in this sector.
This paper provides a bibliometric overview of the interaction between environmental education and the growth of sustainable entrepreneurship. Using VOSViewer and the R programming language, we found 849 reference studies for investigation while browsing English-language articles from esteemed publications and conferences recorded in the Scopus databases. Our analysis revealed an exponential increase in scholarly publications on the topic, therefore highlighting its development as a current focus of study. Our bibliometric study reveals a major knowledge gaps despite this increase: knowledge of the successful integration strategies of environmental education into sustainable entrepreneurship practices and policies at different levels (local, national, and global). Moreover, thorough research on how these interactions affect environmental awareness across several populations and the accomplishment of sustainable development goals (SDGs) is lacking. Therefore, our study aims to close this important void by offering a thorough review of the present situation of research, pointing out the best journals, countries, and authors leading in this field, and suggesting future directions to improve the synergy between environmental education and sustainable development. Policies, courses, and projects aiming at a more sustainable future depend on this input in setting their direction.
The entrepreneurship landscape has undergone a significant transformation towards sustainability in both large and small business firms. This study investigated the effect of individual entrepreneurship orientation on sustainable entrepreneurship practices and firm performance of fisheries small and medium enterprises. The study used a structured questionnaire to gather data from a sample of 389 entrepreneurs working in the Tanzanian Nile perch fishery in Lake Victoria. Descriptive statistics and the partial least squares structural equation modeling technique were used to analyse the quantitative data. The study's findings indicated that the risk-taking, innovativeness, and proactiveness substantially impact sustainable entrepreneurship practices in fisheries small and medium enterprises but does not have a direct relationship with the firm's performance except for the innovativeness. Additionally, it was discovered that sustainable entrepreneurship practices have a complete mediation role in risk-taking and proactiveness, while they have a partial mediation role in innovativeness. Therefore, the study recommends advocacy for policies and incentives to foster the implementation of sustainable entrepreneurship enterprises among small and medium enterprises in the fisheries industry for sustainable businesses and the natural environment.
