In this paper, a color image processing system for diagnosis of early stage cervix cancer is discussed, which can recognize cervix cancer cells in color microscopic image of smear. This paper describes the principle and schemes of the system drive functions. Such as auto-focusing, auto-scouting, and state analyzing of the microscope. Finally, we present the application of this system in clinic use.

The GMDH (group method of data handling)-type neural networks and their application to the medical image recognition of the lungs are described. The GMDH-type neural networks have both characteristics of the GMDH and the conventional multilayered neural network and can automatically organize the optimum neural network architecture by using the heuristic self-organization method. In the GMDH-type neural networks, many types of neurons can be used to organize neural networks' architecture and neurons' characteristics which fit the complexity of the nonlinear system. They are automatically selected by using the error criterion defined as AIC (Akaike's information criterion). Therefore, many types of nonlinear systems can be automatically modeled by using the GMDH-type neural networks. In the paper, the GMDH-type neural networks are applied to the medical image recognition of the lungs.

This paper addresses the problem of target tracking with angular measurements from distributed passive sensors. The usual triangulation method requires that the sensors observe a moving target synchronously to determine the target range. This paper proposes a new method which is applicable for the situation where the sensors observe the target asynchronously. The method assumes that each sensor observes two-dimensional angle, i.e., azimuth and elevation, and the target position and velocity in a three-dimensional space are to be estimated.

In a modern engineering system, failures of its actuator or sensor need to be detected and isolated as soon and as accurately as possible. Many researches have been performed for fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) of dynamic systems. In recent researches, it is shown that the interacting multiple model (IMM) algorithm is successfully employed to cope with it. The algorithm proposed in this paper is another approach to deal with FDD using the IMM algorithm, and it is accomplished by using the error monitoring method provided by perception net which was proposed for the effective data fusion in multisensor environment. Simulation results for total actuator failures are demonstrated by Monte-Carlo simulations.

A nondeterministic kinetics is introduced in image plane for autonomous clustering of fractal attractors associated with contraction mappings. By reformulating 2D Newton potential in terms of the Hausdorff distance, both the attribution to fixed points of contraction mappings and the consistency of fixed point estimates are evaluated. Attracted by fixed point estimates, feature points are aggregated to successively organize discrete clusters structurally consistent with the mapping set. The proposed scheme was implemented and verified through simulation studies.

In this paper a new observation model is presented to improve the state estimation and prediction in a target tracking problem. Comparing with conventional approaches, the following are distinguished points of the approach. First, the measurement equation is set up in the polar coordinate and even combines the range rate measurement with the usual position measurements (i.e. range, azimuth, elevation angle, range rate). Second, the observation noise of sensor data is considered as a colored one, so new linear state and observation equation can be obtained by incorporating the noise vector into the state vector, which satisfy the requirement of Kalman filter. As a result, the accuracy of both the measurement and the prediction will be increased.

Fuzzy logic control is considered for speed of wound rotor induction motors with slip energy recovery. The speed is limited at some range of sub-synchronous speed of the rotating magnetic field. By controlling speed by adjusting the resistance value in the rotor circuit the efficiency of power is reduced, because of the slip energy lost when it passes through the rotor resistance. The control system is designed to maintain efficiency of the motor. A fuzzy logic control method is applied for self-tuning the system by keeping the speed constant and adjusting the rotor current appropriate to the load. Good transient response without overshoot can be obtained.

A vehicle's travel and safe drive make up a multivariable, undetermined and delayed control system. The paper, regarding the vehicle and the environment as a whole, presents a method of knowledge description of various states during the drive process based on the characteristic model of the vehicle and environment. It also discusses the composition of the expert system in auxiliary drive. The result of simulation shows that the method of knowledge description and the system's composition are feasible and correct.

A monitor system is presented in this paper which is used to measure the harmonic voltages and currents of a three-phase source in a power network. In accordance with the principles of harmonic measurement of digital sampling, this system does synchronous sampling for three voltage signals and three current signals analyzing the harmonics. A synchronous sampling impulse circuit is added in hardware to reduce errors caused by leakage effects, and a quasisynchronous sampling algorithm is used in software design. To reduce errors further, the system can monitor and analyze the fundamental wave and harmonics up to the 50/sup th/ order in real-time.
