In this paper, sound attenuation characteristics of a circular lined duct are studied generally by varying the value of a complex reflection coefficient at its inner surface. In this study, at first, eigenvalue equations are solved by using a complex reflection coefficient and and frequency parameter. Next, the sound attenuations between two cross sections of the duct are shown, after sound intensities are calculated. On the other hand, the above theoretical results are confirmed by the experiments. We measured the complex reflection coefficients and the sound attenuation of two kinds of lined ducts. The experimental results about sound attenuation approximately coincided with theoretical ones.

In this paper, we propose an robust controller design of rapid thermal processing (RTP) system using the structured uncertainty approach. Using the weighted mixed sensitivity function, we solve the robust stability problem against disturbance and temperature variation, and design a /spl mu/ controller using the curve fitting method against structured uncertainty. Finally, the simulation results are proposed to show the validity of the proposed method.

This paper describes the exact formula of the output noise power for almost any input signal in wideband sampling systems in the presence of aperture jitter. If is also shown that in ADC systems the quantization noise and the noise due to the aperture jitter can be added as the total noise power, and hence the exact formula of signal-to-noise ratio due to them in ADC systems is derived. Then the timing skew problem in the interleaved ADC system which is similar to the aperture jitter problem is discussed. We show the exact formula for the noise power due to the timing skews and clarify the difference and similarity between the aperture jitter and timing skew problems. Our theoretical results are confirmed by numerical simulations, and these results are useful for wideband sampling system applications.

This paper presents a parameter self-tuning fuzzy control method with forward feedback integration. The effect and condition that forward feedback integration is introduced is put forward. The new method is applied to table furnace control. Simulation results show that the new control method has advantages of high static accuracy, good dynamic response, strong anti-disturb ability and robust.

As a kind of predictive control method, advantages of the unified predictive control (UPC) have been demonstrated in several publications. With UPC, different controllers can be designed under a unified frame, which overcomes the difficulty of comparing control results when the controllers are designed in general way, and the cost of design is reduced considerably. However, UPC also has its drawback. When it is applied to solve the problem of multivariable control, the algorithm is too complicated, therefore, there are many difficulties for it to be implemented and analyzed. A new kind of algorithm based on the state-space model is presented in this paper. The limitation of the original algorithm is overcome. It is an extension of the unified predictive control. Simulation results are given.

A human posture assist robot for elderly and disabled persons, with badly balanced physique is proposed. The robot has a structure with two joints of an ankle, a waist, and a foot force pad. The robot can raise the patient when he/she happens to fall down by sensing the body balance. The human balance is detected by a foot force pad where strain gages are embedded. We have fabricated the scale-down experimental setup to confirm the principle of the human posture assist robot. The program developed can simulate the responses of the classical control and H/sub 2/ control.

Discusses automatic generation of logic circuits on evolvable hardware (EHW). It is a major problem for a conventional EHW that the evolution process needs a large number of trials. To solve the problem, a new method is presented, which consists of logical cells and connection arranged in a parallel style. The advantages and problems of this method are discussed through experiment: generation of a Khepera robot control circuit. Analysis of the generated circuit makes environment recognition and behaviour decision of the robot possible.

This paper analyses the defects in the construction of conventional Annubar flowmeter and explores a new Annubar flow sensor with piezoelectric crystal. A new detection scheme is also decided on the base of theoretical analyses and a great number of experiments. We consider a decoupling and servo control for the JINAMCHA system of which the cart and the pointer are coupled very strongly. The right eigenstructure assignment (i.e. simultaneous assignment of eigenvalues and right eigenvectors) scheme is used for decoupling the motions of the cart and the pointer, and the command generator tracker (CGT) is used for servo control of the JINAMCHA system. The performance of the proposed control scheme, that is, the performance of the combined control scheme of the right eigenstructure assignment and the CGT is evaluated by simulations. The results show that the proposed controller has better performance than the LQR with limiting properties and the conventional LQ servo.

Simulation of a high frequency electronic ballast which operates a fluorescent lamp at high frequency is proposed. Simulation is carried out using Pspice program to illustrate the performance of the circuit. A series inductor at the supply side is utilized to reduce the harmonic contents at the supply side. Dimming capability of the fluorescent lamp is achieved by controlling the switching of the used transistor. Simulation shows the effects of utilizing the series inductor at the supply side and the controlling of the transistor used on the circuit performance. Simulation illustrates the performance of the lamp at starting. Experimental results from a laboratory prototype are used to verify the simulation procedure.
