Effect of Local Nanosilver Loaded with Tetracycline in Treatment of Induced Infection of Rat Buccal Mucosa with Porphyromonas Gingivalis (Histological and Immunohistochemical Study) 局部负载四环素纳米银治疗大鼠牙龈卟啉单胞菌诱导感染的组织学和免疫组织化学研究

Introduction: Porphyromonas gingivalis, a Gram-negative anaerobic bacterium found to be the major etiologic agent that contributes to periodontitis. It has been found to be the major etiologic agent that contributes to periodontitis and produces many factors that cause destruction to periodontal tissues in both ways directly and indirectly by modulating the host inflammatory response. Silver nanoparticles are considered as an effective antimicrobial agent and their ability to load various medication combinations onto silver nanoparticles provides them a highly antibacterial mechanism of action, to which bacteria have developed resistance. Aim: This study was designed to evaluate the effect of silver nanoparticles loaded with tetracycline in treatment of induced infection by Porphyromonas gingivalis of the rat’s buccal mucosa through histological examination and immunohistochemical localization of Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen (PCNA). Material and Methods: Eighteen male albino rats were randomly divided into three groups: normal (negative), infected (positive) with induced P. gingivalis and treated group with nanosilver loaded with tetracycline for fourteen days. Samples were examined under the light microscope for histological and immunohistochemical evaluation through PCNA labeling index where the number of PCNA positive cells were divided by the total cell number in the basal cell layer was estimated and treated statistically. Results: Histological findings were represented by increase in the surface epithelium, numbers of clear cells throughout different layers of epithelium and great collagen dissociation at multiple areas in lamina propria of group II animals while group III treated with nanosilver loaded with tetracycline showed epithelium regained their normal histological structure with scattered inflammatory cells with almost normal structure of lamina propria. There was significant decrease in PCNA labeling index of the surface epithelium of the buccal mucosa of group II animals compared with normal group I as well as significant increase in PCNA labeling index of group III. Conclusion: Synergetic conjugation of nano-silver with antibiotic drug as tetracycline showed improvement in the histological picture and cellular proliferation rate of epithelial cells of rat’s buccal mucosa.

Effect of Arch-Wire Coating on Friction of Ceramic Bracket laboratory study 弧丝涂层对陶瓷支架摩擦影响的实验室研究

Introduction: The increasing demand for esthetics has promoted the development of wires coated with polymeric materials such as polymer matrix reinforced with glassfibers. Thus, the surface and thickness of metallic-coated wires can be modified to affect corrosive properties, mechanical durability and especially friction forces. Aim: To evaluate the frictional properties between Teflon coated and non-coated stainless-steel orthodontic arch-wires (0.017 x 0.025-inches and 0.019 x 0.025-inches) with ceramic brackets of 0.018 and 0.022-inch slots. Material and methods: Sixteen orthodontic maxillary premolar mono-crystalline ceramic brackets, eight brackets with 0.018-inch and eight brackets with 0.022-inch slot size. Roth prescription were used. Twenty stainless-steel 0.017 x 0.025-inch arch-wires were used (ten Teflon coated and ten noncoated). Twenty stainless-steel 0.019 x 0.025-inch arch-wires were used (ten Teflon coated and ten non-coated). All arch-wires were cut to symmetrical equal halves using a wire cutter at the midline and each half was used separately. The total number of wire segments used in the study was eighty orthodontic maxillary stainless-steel archwires. Each ceramic bracket tested five wire segments using new elastomeric modules each time. Each bracket was translated the same distance (5mm) relative to its wire segment by the LR5K Lloyd universal testing machine at the same speed of (5mm per minute). Results: The non-coated 17x25 –inch thickness stainless steel arch-wires showed higher friction than coated ones and the non-coated 0.019 x 0.025-inch. The coated 0.019x 0.025-inches stainless steel wire segments showed significant highest friction of 1687.25±97.5 than non-coated 0.019x 0.025-inches and coated/non-coated 0.017x 0.025-inches wire segments. Conclusion: The coated stainless-steel arch-wires had higher friction than the non-coated stainless-steel arch-wires on mono-crystalline ceramic brackets. The type and nature of coating materials such as nitride ions, metals, oxides, teflon or resins exhibited stronger impact on determining the potential for corrosion of Nickel-titanium wires compared to values of surface roughness. The result of the study was that coating on the orthodontic wires and brackets used to reduce the friction problem during orthodontic treatment, minimizing the treatment time and the risk of bacteria adhesion(1). Effect of Zirconium Oxide Nano-Fillers on Dimensional Accuracy of Acrylic Resin Maxillary Complete Dentures: An in vitro study 氧化锆纳米填料对丙烯酸树脂上颌全口义齿尺寸精度影响的体外研究

Introduction: Addition of nanofillers to the denture base material in order to enhance its mechanical properties may contribute to the dimensional accuracy of the processed dentures. Aim: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of zirconium oxide nanofillers addition on the dimensional accuracy of maxillary heat cured acrylic dentures. Materials and Methods: Thirty six identical maxillary waxed up dentures were constructed, divided into two equal groups(n=18), control group processed into conventional heat cured acrylic resin dentures and test group processed into 5% zirconium oxide nanofiller reinforced heat cured acrylic resin dentures. Teeth movements were estimated linearly using digital software after processing and vertically using digital caliper before and after processing. Changes in denture adaptation were measured immediately after processing and after seven days hydration in distilled water using digital software. Results: After processing, both groups showed increased Vertical dimension of occlusion with less increase with the test group. Both groups showed changes in teeth position with non-significant difference. Test group showed more tendency to inward tooth movement. Test group showed significant more denture adaptation after processing. However, denture hydration caused decrease in denture adaptation in the test group while causing enhancement in denture adaptation with the control group. Conclusion: Zirconium oxide nanofillers reinforcement showed nearly comparable results of dimensional accuracy to the conventional dentures with negative results on hydration.

Introduction: Dentin hypersensitivity is a widespread issue with high prevalence. Blocking the open dentinal tubules is one way to reduce dentin hypersensitivity. Aim: The current study aimed at evaluating the in vitro potential of a novel experimental dentifrice made of nano-fluoro hydroxyapatite (n-FHAP) produced from a biogenic source (cuttlefishbones) for occlusion of dentinal tubules. Material and Methods: 30 dentin discs (n = 30) were classified into 3 categories (n = 10) based on the dentifrices they utilized for brushing: 1st category = artificial saliva (AS; control); 2nd category = fluoride dentifrice (Sensodyne, UK); 3rd category = experimental nano-FHAP dentifrice. Then, after brushing, discs were subjected to an acidic challenge with 6 percent wt citric acid (pH = 4.0) for 1 minute. By utilizing a SEM (scanning electron microscope) and EDX (energy-dispersive X-ray) spectroscopy before and after the citric acid challenge, the tubule occlusion was measured. Results: Group 1 (AS) SE micrographs revealed no tubule blockage. The tubules in Groups 2 and 3 were mostly blocked, according to SE micrographs. Data before and after the citric acid challenge data were statistically significant (p= 0.05) for all groups. Conclusion: In terms of tubule blockage, the findings of the new experimental dentifrice were equivalent to those of Sensodyne. Dentifrice containing FHAP nano-particles might be used to treat dentin sensitivity as an alternative.

Aim: The current study aimed at evaluating the in vitro potential of a novel experimental dentifrice made of nano-fluoro hydroxyapatite (n-FHAP) produced from a biogenic source (cuttlefishbones) for occlusion of dentinal tubules. Material and Methods: 30 dentin discs (n = 30) were classified into 3 categories (n = 10) based on the dentifrices they utilized for brushing: 1st category = artificial saliva (AS; control); 2nd category = fluoride dentifrice (Sensodyne, UK); 3rd category = experimental nano-FHAP dentifrice. Then, after brushing, discs were subjected to an acidic challenge with 6 percent wt citric acid (pH = 4.0) for 1 minute. By utilizing a SEM (scanning electron microscope) and EDX (energy-dispersive X-ray) spectroscopy before and after the citric acid challenge, the tubule occlusion was measured. Results: Group 1 (AS) SE micrographs revealed no tubule blockage. The tubules in Groups 2 and 3 were mostly blocked, according to SE micrographs. Introduction: The principle of safe bracket debonding is to degrade the adhesive resin strength connecting the tooth and the bracket by softening or ablation.of adhesive resin from tooth surface without damaging the enamel. Aim: The aim of this study were to compare the efficacy of erbium yttrium aluminum garnet (Er: YAG) laser and Er Cr;YSGG in debonding on the metal brackets and determination if there are any adhesive remnants on the enamel surface by the stereomicroscope. Methods: Sixty metal brackets were bonded to sixty upper first premolars and they were divided into three groups, Group 1(control) debonded by conventional plier, group 2 debonded by Er: YAG laser and group 3 de bonded by Er Cr: YSGG. The Enamel surface were evaluated by stereo microscope for any enamel cracks and damage. Results: Er: YAG 7W laser debond the metal brackets in a shorter time than Er Cr; YSGG and Erbium Chromium Yttrium Scandium Gallium Garnet (Er Cr: YSGG) laser (6W and 7W) decreased the enamel damage compared to the Er :YAG laser and the conventional method for Debonding .Conclusion: The Er Cr; YSGG 7 W laser are clinically safer than other groups as it has acceptable chair side time in debonding and less damage on the enamel.

Comparative evaluation of the cytotoxic effect of different intracanal medicaments 不同肛管内药物细胞毒作用的比较评价

ABSTRACTIntroduction: intracanal medicaments have an important role in disinfecting ofthe pulp space and in endodontic regenerative procedures. These medications comein close contact with the periradicular tissue, thus their degradation products must bebiocompatible with the periapical tissue. Otherwise, these medicaments will resultin intense inflammatory reaction. Aim of the study: The purpose of this in vitrostudy was to evaluate and compare the cytotoxicity of three intracanal medications;Neem oil, double antibiotic paste (DAP) and calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2).Materials and Methods: Immortalized human gingival fibroblast cells were retrievedfrom the cell bank and then cultured. Three different intracanal medications (Neemoil, DAP, Ca(OH)2) were added to the cultured cells. Cell viability was evaluatedusing 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) andApoptosis/necrosis assays. Statistical analysis was performed using One-way ANOVAand post-hoc Tukey test. Results: Ca(OH)2 recorded the highest significant cytotoxicityfollowed by Neem oil, then DAP which recorded the lowest significant cytotoxicity.Cytotoxicity of the three intracanal medicaments used were directly proportional totheir concentrations Conclusion: DAP could be better recommended as intracanalmedicament in regenerative endodontic procedures because of its biocompatibilitycompared to the other tested medications.
