Ultra-high-speed serial optical communications: Enabling technologies 超高速串行光通信:使能技术

This paper will present recently identified and demonstrated key technologies for ultra-high-speed serial communications. Certain key components such as stabilised highly non-linear fibre switches, periodically poled Lithium Niobate devices and semiconductor optical amplifiers will be described with demonstrations of 640 Gb/s transmission, clock recovery, demultiplexing, add/drop, wavelength conversion and channel identification. Timing jitter tolerance is addressed through techniques to create flat-top pulses.

We have developed a 300-pin optical duo-binary transceiver, which employed a full L-band tunable-laser array and a variable optical attenuator, for L-band DWDM network. Transmission was demonstrated up to a chromatic dispersion of 3000 ps/nm.

A compact optical memory with single SOA is demonstrated by exploiting two coupled fiber ring lasers. Without necessity of feedback, the memory shows bi-stability over a large wavelength range. Dynamic flip-flop operation is also investigated.

Hierarchical optical path cross-connect node architecture using WSS/WBSS 基于WSS/WBSS的分层光路交叉连接节点架构

We propose a new hierarchical optical cross-connect node architecture that utilizes 3D MEMS-based WSS and WBSS (Waveband Selective Switch). We evaluate the total number of MEMS mirrors necessary to implement the node, a key parameter in determining node reliability and cost. It is demonstrated that the proposed hierarchical architecture requires a lot less mirrors than conventional single-layer WSS based node architectures.
