Background and objectives: Ameloblastomas and odontogenic keratocysts are benign odontogenic lesions of an epithelial origin that displayed behavior of local destruction and high recurrence. Podoplanin is designated as an endothelial lymphatic marker and it is linked to invasion and cell motility; its role together with β-catenin still not entirely elucidated in both odontogenic lesions. Materials and methods: Both Podoplanin and β-catenin were immunohistochemically inspected in archival paraffin blocks of ameloblastoma and odontogenic keratocyst. Results: Podoplanin and β-catenin are strongly expressed in all layers of follicular ameloblastoma; however, in odontogenic keratocysts; podoplanin is only expressed in basal cell layer. Conclusions: Podoplanin is expressed in ameloblast like cells in ameloblastomas and basal cells of odontogenic keratocysts. It might be associated with cell migration and local invasiveness of both lesions. Besides; both podoplanin and β-catenin varied expression in ameloblastoma subtypes and odontogenic keratocyst might be useful in odontogenic lesions diagnosis.

Purpose: To evaluate the fracture resistance and failure modes of biomimetic adhesive overlays constructed from two different types of machinable blocks after thermodynamic aging. Materials and methods: Twenty-two sound maxillary premolars were prepared for adhesive overlays and randomly allocated into two groups (n=11) according to the material used for overlay construction: Group CT: advanced lithium disilicate with virgilite (CEREC Tessera), and Group BC: ceramic reinforced composite (Brilliant Crios) materials. Thermodynamic aging was done to all bonded samples followed by fracture resistance test. Modes of failure were evaluated with digital microscope at 10X magnification. Results: Group CT recorded higher fracture mean values (1065.4 ±79.3) than group BC mean values (930.4 ±41.2). Failure mode distribution scores between the two material groups were statistically non-significant. Conclusions: CEREC Tessera showed better fracture resistance than Brilliant Crios. Both materials showed similar percentages of catastrophic failure. The majority of samples in both groups exhibited repairable fractures.

Background: Dentin hypersensitivity is a common dental problem, so there is a growing interest in herbal-based products for treating oral diseases. This study assessed the efficacy of novel herbal-based toothpaste in reducing dentin hypersensitivity compared to commercially available toothpaste. Materials and Methods: Thirty dentin discs with (1.0± 0.1mm) thickness were prepared and divided into two groups (n=15): Group 1 samples were not subjected to acid challenge. Group 2: samples were subjected to an acid challenge. Each group (n=5) was subdivided into three subgroups according to the toothpaste used: Subgroup (A): dentin discs subjected to 0.5% Ashwagandha paste. Subgroup (G): dentin discs subjected to 0.5% Ginger paste. Subgroup (F): dentin discs subjected to Fluoride-based toothpaste (+ve control). Samples were assessed for the percentage of opened dentinal tubules per surface area using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Image J Analysis at baseline, after etching using 40% citric acid for 30 seconds, and after 14 days of the treatment regimen. Results: The highest percentage of opened dentinal tubules per surface area was recorded in the subgroup G1 (7.23±2.45), followed by F1 (6.47±3.15), and then A1 (5.9±1.7) with no statistically significant difference (p = 0.685). However, the highest percentage of opened dentinal tubules per surface area was recorded in the subgroup A2 (2.59±0.96), followed by G2 (2.34±0.81), then F2 (0.39±0.18) with a statistically significant difference (p=0.003). Group 2 showed statistically significantly higher values regarding the percentage of opened dentinal tubules per surface area than Group 1. Conclusion: All the toothpastes tested successfully treated dentin hypersensitivity concerning decreased opened dentinal tubules per surface area. Ginger and Ashwagandha were efficient as natural products that could successfully replace commercial products in managing dentin hypersensitivity.
然而,A2(2.59±0.96)亚组的单位表面积开放的牙本质小管百分比最高,其次是 G2(2.34±0.81),然后是 F2(0.39±0.18),差异有统计学意义(p=0.003)。

Introduction: One of the human body’s most diverse structures is thought to be the sphenoid sinus. This degree of variability is due to the great vulnerability of the sphenoid to pneumatization, which complicates surgical methods. The sphenoid sinus may interact closely with the cranial nerve II, optic nerve (ON) and internal branch of the carotid artery (ICA). CBCT is a useful option for assessing the anatomy presented in the maxillofacial region, as well as variability in this anatomy such as variable anatomical presentation of the sphenoid sinus. Aim of the study: we aimed in this study to assess the variable anatomical presentations of the sphenoid sinus and its relationship with the nearby nerves and vessels via CBCT and correlating our findings with the potential influencing forensic factors. Materials and methods: CBCT images were conducted on 51 scans selected randomly from the database. Two oral and maxillofacial radiologists assessed the scans, each of them has more than 10 years of experience. This was done in a darkened room. Sphenoid sinus pneumatization types and the relation with OP and ICA were assessed in each patient. Additionally, probable influential causes

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different CAD/CAM materials (Lithium disilicate glass ceramic, polymer infiltrated ceramic network and Machinable resin composite) on the occlusal veneers’ fracture resistance. Materials and Methods: A Mandibular first molar of a typodont model was prepared into flat occlusal veneer preparation, then it was duplicated using rubber base duplicating material to obtain 21 epoxy resin dies. Also, the prepared tooth was scanned, occlusal veneer design was done then milled to obtain 21 occlusal veneers. Occlusal veneers were divided into three groups based on the material of construction: Group (LD): IPS e.max® CAD, Group (VE): Vita Enamic® and Group (BC): BRILLIANT Crios®. The 21 occlusal veneers were bonded using DUO-LINK UNIVERSAL™ adhesive resin cement to their corresponding dies. Then a vertical compressive load was applied on the restorations using the universal testing machine. The maximum load and the failure mode were recorded. After testing for normality. Data were statistically analyzed at significance level (P ≤ 0.05). Results: Comparison between the three groups using One Way ANOVA test demonstrated that Group (VE) (1863.18 N) had the highest fracture resistance followed by Group (BC) (1697.17 N) then Group (LD) (1035.23N). Also, Group (LD) and (VE) had repairable failure mode while Group (BC) had both repairable and irreparable failure moode. Conclusions Groups (LD), (VE) and (BC) can withstand forces more than the physiologic masticatory forces. Also, Vita Enamic can provide satisfactory fracture resistance and a repairable failure mode for the posterior occlusal veneers.
