The study aims to investigate the effects of diets containing two levels of red onion peels and bread fortified with these peels on nutrition status, some biochemical analysis, and histopathological examination of the kidney in rats suffering from diabetes. Forty-eight male albino rats were used in this study. The rats were divided into two main groups, as follows: The first main group (12 rats) was divided into two subgroups, as follows: Subgroup (1): fed on a basal diet (as a negative control group). Subgroup (2): fed on a diet containing 250 g of unfortified bread per kg of diet (as a control negative group, also). The second main group (36 rats) was injected with alloxan to induce hyperglycemia. The rats in the second main group were divided into six equal subgroups as follows: Subgroup (1) was fed a diet containing 250 g of unfortified bread per kg of diet (as a positive control group). Subgroups 2 and 3 were fed diets containing the best two samples of bread estimated by the sensory evaluation (250 g fortified bread with 10% and 15% red onion peels per kg diet, respectively

SUMMAY uring recent years, researchers evaluated many of eco-friendly alternatives to antibiotics such natural bee products as growth promoters in poultry production to improve the productive efficiency, modify the gut microflora, control diseases and enhancing the immune-response. The present study aimed at assessing the impacts of bee venom in drinking water on the growth performance, carcass merits, blood health, and immunity of broilers. Three hundreds and seventy five unsexed one-day old Avian chicks with an initial body weight of (45.2 ± 0.7g), were obtained from a local commercial hatchery. Chicks were kept at a private poultry farm under supervision of Animal Production Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Tanta University. Chicks were divided randomly into five equal experimental groups; each group divided into 3 replicates; each replicate has 25 birds. Control group (C) received drinking water without any supplementation (tap water). Treatment 1, 2, 3 and 4 received drinking water treated with bee venom at the level of (0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 mg/Liter), respectively. Results showed that, birds received bee venom at the level of 2.0 mg/L drinking water had significantly (P≤0.05 and 0.01) the highest body weight. Chicks received bee venom at the level of 2.0, 1.5 and 1.0 mg/L. drinking water recorded superior (p≤0.05) weekly body weight gains than those fed 0.5 mg/L and control group. The highest (p≤0.05) amount (3008.9gm) of total feed consumption per bird recorded by the control group compared to (2908.9, 2907.0, 2916.6 or 2916.2) of those received bee venom at the levels of 2.0, 1.5, 1.0 or 0.5 mg/L, respectively. Regarding feed conversion ratio, through the whole experimental period (0 to 5 week), there were no significant differences among treated groups while, it has a significant improvement compared to birds in control group. There were significant (P≤0.05) effects for carcass, dressing, abdominal fat and relative liver, thymus, and spleen weights between broilers received drinking water supplemented with different levels of bee venom and those of the control. No significant differences (P>0.05) were observed for each IgA, IgG, and IgM. It could be concluded that the use of bee venom in drinking water of broilers up to 2mg/L. is able to improve productive performance, carcass traits and some blood biochemical parameters.

SUMMARY . he aim of the current study was to instead of egg yolk with various levels of coconut water as a cryoprotectant in Tris-extenders and to investigate its effect on quality and fertility of frozen buffalo bulls' semen. Semen was collected twice a week from five mature buffalo bulls for 12 weeks and ejaculates with 70% progressive motility prior were pooled to have sufficient semen volume for a replicate and to eliminate the bull effect. After evaluation semen quality, the pooled fresh semen was divided into five equal fractions; one fraction was diluted with Tris-egg yolk extender (control) and the other four replects, whole egg yolk was replaced by different concentrations of five; 10; 15 and 20% coconut water extracted. Semen was diluted to eighty million sperm/ml packaged into 0.25ml straws, cooled held at 5ºC for4 h, and then frozen in liquid nitrogen and stored at –196ºC until for artificial insemination. The percentages of sperm progressive motility, live sperm, sperm abnormality, intact sperm acrosome and plasma membrane integrity were evaluated post dilution, post–equilibration and post frozen–thawed processes. The results revealed that 20% coconut water extender was more effective on cryopreservation of semen characteristics (progressive motility, live sperm, sperm abnormality, intact sperm acrosome and plasma membrane integrity) of buffalo spermatozoa than whole egg yolk extender and other coconut milk extenders. Also, conception rates were higher in 20% coconut water extender compared with control egg yolk extender (66.7% vs 58.3%, respectively). In conclusion, added20% coconut water to extender improves the freezability and fertility of buffalo spermatozoa and can be used as an alternate to egg yolk in cryopreservation of buffalo bulls semen.

his investigation was to estimate the impact of daily oral treatments with some organic antioxidants as selenomethionine (Se-M) and zincmethionine (Zn-M), separately or together (Se-M plus Zn-M) to Fresian bulls through 150 days upon some blood components, libido, characteristics of fresh semen and frozen-semen thawed at various thawing regimes, as well as, fertilizing ability of bulls spermatozoa. Sixteen healthy Friesian bulls were separated into 4 groups. Bulls in the first, second, third and fourth groups were fed a basal diet, and given oral dose of 0, 0.3 mg Se-M, 4mg Zn-M, and 0.15mg Se-M plus 2mg Zn-M/kg of DM/bull/daily, respectively, for 150 days. The results elucidated that bulls were given Se-M plus Zn-M had optimal (P<0.01) values of hematological aspects, differential of leukocytic count, blood plasma testosterone, seminal plasma initial fructose, libido, as well as, physical aspects of fresh semen and frozen-semen thawed at various thawing rates comparing with the control or other treated bulls. Frozen-semen thawed at 55ºC for 15 seconds (rapid thawing rate) had best (P<0.01) quality, freezability and some biochemical components of seminal plasma and fertilizing ability of spermatozoa. In conclusion, daily oral dose of 0.15mg Se-M plus 2mg Zn-M/Kg DM/bull, as organic antioxidants through 150 days, could be suitable treatment for Friesian bulls, to achieving optimal quality of fresh semen production and freezability of semen, as well as, fertility of bulls spermatozoa, especially when frozen-semen thawed at 55º C for 15 seconds.

SUMMARY his study investigated the effect of various sources and levels of vegetable oil as a source of omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids on productive performance, egg quality, fatty acids profile and some physiological traits of laying hens. Two hundred and seventy Bovens laying hens at 45 weeks of age were randomly divided equally into nine treatments resulting from factorial design (3×3); three sources of vegetable oil (soybean, sunflower and linseed oil) with three levels (1, 1.5 and 2%). Obtained results showed that, final body weight, hen-day egg production percentage, feed consumption, egg quality characteristics, plasma total protein, globulin, aspartate transaminase, alanine aminotransferase, total lipids and very low density lipoprotein concentrations were not significantly affected (P>0.05) by various sources or levels of vegetable oils. The use of linseed oil in laying hens' diets led to a significant increase (p≤0.05) in the egg mass and weight of eggs produced from those hens. Feed conversion ratio of laying hens fed either linseed or sunflower oil diets were significantly (P≤0.05) improved compared to those received dietary soybean oil. There was a significant increase in the level of MUFAsin the egg yolk occurred as a result of using sunflower or linseed oil, compared to soybean oil. The inclusion of sunflower oil in the layer diets was able to improve significantly (P≤0.01) the concentration of γ-linolenic (C18:3n6) and arachidonic (C20:4n6) fatty acids in the egg yolk. The use of different levels of sunflower or linseed oil up to 2% led to a significant (P≤0.01) improvement in the level of high density lipoprotein. Moreover, layer fed diet with different levels of linseed oil significantly (P≤0.01) had the lowest concentration of low density lipoprotein. Significant (P≤0.01) improvement in the level of antioxidants was observed for the groups fed on diet containing linseed oil, followed by those fed dietary sunflower oil, compared to the control group that fed on soybean oil. In conclusion, the use of both sunflower oil or linseed oil up to 2% in the diet of laying hens are able to improve egg production, egg quality, the level of essential fatty acids in egg yolk, in addition improving the level of antioxidants and blood biochemical parameters.
