This paper presents comparative study for power system transient stability improvement using Static Var Compensator (SVC) and Thyristor Control Breaking Resistor (TCBR). To show the effectiveness of the dynamic oscillation, relative rotor angles criterion is used for power system transient stability assessment. The proposed method is tested on the WSCC3 nine-bus system in the case of three-phase short circuit fault in one transmission line. Simulation results and comparative study comparison are presented in this paper.

In the era of sustainable development, photovoltaic (PV) technology has shown significant potential as a renewable energy source. Photovoltaic generators (GPV) have a non-linear current-voltage characteristic, with a maximum power point (MPP) characterized by an optimal voltage, and depends on environmental factors such as temperature and irradiation. To extract each time the maximum power available at the terminals of the GPV and transfer it to the load, an adaptation stage is used, consisting of a Boost chopper controlled by a maximum power point tracking technique (MPPT) through a stage of pulse width modulation (PWM). Our choice has focused on two techniques which are: the Incremental Conductance Method (InCond) and that of control using the fuzzy logic. The implementation and simulation of the system (photovoltaic generator, chopper Boost, PWM and MPPT techniques) are then performed in the Matlab/Simulink environment.

In this work we are interested in modeling and control of a wind system formed by a turbine, a driving shaft and a double fed induction machine. We are used the multi model method to overcome the non linearity of the system. Hence two techniques of command were developed. They are the feedback command state and the standard command using the quadratic functions of Lyapunov and the LMI approach. The simulation shows the control performances and dynamic behavior of the wind system. The standard command permits the stability of the system and attenuation of the external disturbances caused by the variation of the wind speed.

The greatest threat to the OFDM system is the loss of orthogonality between subcarriers due to the carrier frequency offset (CFO) which results in significant performance degradation. In addition to this last problem was the effect of propagation over multipath fading channel. Hence, both the channel and the CFO need to be estimated and corrected at the receiver for subsequent symbol detection. A new joint semi-blind CFO and channel estimation methods for OFDM systems based on maximum-likelihood (ML) is investigated in this paper. The proposed algorithm is based on virtual subcarriers (VSCs) and on a new design of pilot patterns in OFDM blocks. The simulation results are given to verify the validity of the proposed methods.

In order to ensure the continuity and the quality of electrical energy distribution, the diagnostic of polluted insulators is of utmost importance. For this purpose, a new performance monitoring methodology is proposed in this paper. Once acquisition of the applied voltage and the leakage current signals is carried out on a plan insulator model under uniform and non-uniform pollutions, the continuous (CWT) and discrete (DWT) wavelet transforms are performed. In case of a uniform pollution, the CWT with its time-scale analysis allows to characterize the state of the insulator surface by detecting the apparition of electrical discharges from the applied voltage waveform. While for a non-uniform pollution configuration, the DWT through its multi-resolution analysis allows us to predict the occurrence of the partial arcs phenomenon on the insulator surface based on the leakage current waveform. Through this work, the effectiveness of the wavelet technique has been highlighted as a new tool for the diagnostic and monitoring of polluted insulators performance.

This paper studies a water and energy management strategy dedicated to an autonomous water desalination system fed by a hybrid (Photovoltaic (PV) and Wind) power generator without battery storage. RO technology is one of the most powerful processes used for desalination to provide fresh water. Accordingly, renewable energy can be used especially by means of hybrid (PV-wind) system. Taking into consideration the multidisciplinary and strongly coupled device from a systemic point of view, the system being considered as a whole. Inside this framework, the water/energy management of the global process has to be optimized in order to produce fresh water while considering the different system constraints with the given intermittent power.

This paper present the complete modeling and Simulation of wind turbine driven doubly-fed induction generator which feeds as power to the utility grid. Our systems is based on DFIG. This work deals with the modeling and control of a wind turbine variable speed induction generator based to high power, followed by two converters by means of a PI controller to ensure the stability of the system irrespective to the fluctuation of the wind. The different simulation results of all the conversion chains realized under the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment, allowed the evaluation of the suggested system's performance. This work deals with the modeling and control of a wind turbine variable speed induction generator based on dual fuel (GADA) to high power, followed by a rectifier.

Vector controlled drives involve a prior knowledge of the spatial orientation as well as the magnitude of the magnetic flux in the IM rotor or stator. In this context estimators or observers can be used, depending on the required robustness and accuracy as well as the sensitivity next to parameters variation. Thus, the performance of an IM drive remains dependent on the rapidity and the accuracy of the submitted parameters values. In this paper an IM finite element model based observer “FEMO” is developed. The IM finite element model “IMFEM” was designed using a two dimensional Finite Element Method “FEM” in order to identify the stator inductance, the rotor time constant and the magnetic dispersion coefficient. Field trials was undertaken to validate the IMFEM and performance of the FEMO is evaluated.

The aim of this work is to explore the static conduct of an islanded micorgrid. A technical economic study is performed. Many parameters and aspects such as renewable resources availability, fuel price, microgrid components, and dispatch strategies are examined to see their effect on microgrid operation and cost effectiveness. The study is performed on Desertores Island microgrid example. A comparison is made also with Tunisia using the same system but with Tunisian climate data and fuel price. HOMER (Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Energy Resources) software is very useful to perform such study.
