Cultural Hegemony Portrayed in Cutting Edge Pre-Intermediate Textbook 前沿前中级教材中的文化霸权

The use of textbooks in the EFL classroom is a trend that shapes the way language teachers teach and how students learn. Teachers design and use a great deal of materials for teaching and developing foreign language skills, but in terms of culture, they usually prefer to trust publishing houses for the cultural content included in their textbooks. What we do not know is that most of these textbooks promote hegemony and standardization of cultures under the conscious or unconscious ideology of the colonization of being. Teachers need to learn how to analyze and unveil the hidden mechanisms of colonization that are portrayed in some textbooks, a process which can be carried out through the use of Critical Discourse Analysis.

This article aimed at presenting general trends regarding the role of technology in the English language learning process. The benefits of using technology in the process of learning English, as well as the importance of using technology as a method to teach a foreign language, will be discussed. This study discusses the use of technology as a way to promote teaching English as a foreign language, as well as how it can transform the teaching and learning process.

EFL in Primary Classrooms of Choco: A Challenge for In-service Teachers and Educational Authorities 小学英语课堂教学:对在职教师和教育当局的挑战

The following study explored choices and methods to improve professional training and development among primary school teachers from Chocó in order to enhance English teaching at the basic school level. The research work was an analyticaldescriptive study undertaken with in-service primary school teachers from ChocóColombia. The investigation analyzed the situation faced by primary school teachers from Chocó when teaching EFL (English as a Foreign Language) in the primary school classroom. Furthermore, the study, to some extent, describes the existence of social, cultural, political and academic factors which may intervene in the EFL context of Chocó’s primary education as well. Both quantitative and qualitative research methods were applied in the development of the investigation. A questionnaire was implemented as the quantitative data collection instrument and the interview as the qualitative one. Additionally, classroom observation was also used as an instrument to gather data. The study has revealed that in-service primary teachers from Chocó lack the knowledge they need to teach English to young children as they are trained neither from a linguistic nor from a methodological point of view.

The topic of this article is an "Interuniversity Session of Rhetoric". It comes from a pedagogic strategy consisting of a group of students that persuasively presented linguistic theories to a group of contemporaries to try to internalize them. It is possible to apply this strategy in different classes or courses to strengthen analysis, memorization, documentation, oral and written skills, and the ability of conviction and persuasion in basic education or high education. The writing can be extended, for example, to establish how an interuniversity session of rhetoric consolidates teamwork. Finally, this article concludes on how the session of rhetoric is, definitely, a space to encode attitudes and knowledge.
