The process of monitoring the network, especially for larger ones, is very complex and contains many pitfalls. For instance the balance between granularity of information and their performance impact on the network. With the help of SDN this challenge can become easier, as it offers new methods, mechanisms and opportunities. One of the current most important Open Source controllers is the ONOS SDN controller. According to its developers it is a production ready controller that offers high availability due to its logically centralized and physically distributed architecture. But, as our investigations show, it is unable to cope with hazardous network conditions such as sporadic or recurring packet loss. It either does not detect packet loss or only detects it after long time periods, failing all common network availability targets.

In this paper, we focus on pilot contamination problem in multi-cell massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems. In general, orthogonal pilot across users and cells leads to bandwidth inefficiency. We propose an uplink transmission protocol design in which the pilot portions of users overlap with data from other cells and even partially overlap across cells. Semi-blind algorithms are applied to separate the data streams from user equipments (UEs). With the proposed protocol and semi-blind algorithms, the pilot contamination is greatly reduced. The simulation results show that with the help of semi-blind algorithm employing Constant Modulus Algorithm, the system performance is superior compared to that of the existing schemes.

This paper aims to compare the feature extraction methods for accent dependent Thai speech from three regions including central, southern and northeastern regions. We investigate four frequency analysis methods: i.e., Energy Spectral Density (ESD), Power Spectral Density (PSD), Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) and Spectrogram (SPT). Radial basis function kernel based on support vector machine is used as a classifier with 5-fold cross validation. The isolated speech data sets are recorded from 30 male and 30 female participants speaking the 10 Thai digits from 0 to 9. The MFCC-based feature gives better accuracy than ESD, PSD and SPT respectively. For within the same region, the MFCC-based feature provides average accuracy of 94.9% and 99.1% for male and female voices respectively. For the three regions, the MFCC-based feature provides average accuracy of 89.34% and 93.81% for male and female voices, respectively.

In recent years, a high speed data transmission system has been widely researched. Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems are one of the key technologies to achieve a high speed data transmission. To realize superior bit error rate (BER) performance, several detection methods for MIMO system have been proposed. QR decomposition with M-algorithm (QRM-MLD) has been proposed to achieve the superior BER performance like Maximum Likelihood Detection (MLD) with low computational complexity. Since the signal detection of QRM-MLD has carried on serial processing, the detection order is crucial to improve the detection performance. To mitigate the detection error in the previous stage, Sorted QR decomposition (SQRD) has been proposed. To implement SQRD, we need an accurate channel column order. However, the complexity and processing delay are considerable works. To solve these problems, we propose a novel channel column sorting method to reduce the calculation complexity and latency. From the simulation results, the proposed scheme achieves superior BER performance with low complexity and latency.

Nowadays, water has become an increasingly scarce and valuable resource, yet, by far the largest demand for the world’s water comes from agriculture. Irrigation is still not efficient in the sense of water usage as well as yield increase. In this paper, we propose a generic irrigation model based on Markov Decision Processes termed Markov-Decision based Irrigation (MDI) for creating automatic and precise irrigation policies for an energy and water efficient farming as well as to ensure good crop growth. MDI is developed at the gateway that decides smart irrigation actions for each autonomous sub area inside a whole farm. The results presented show that MDI outperforms the common threshold-based irrigation method by around 40% in our analytical use case. Furthermore, this model can be generalized for many types of crops and environments.

This paper proposes an approach estimating a gait abnormality index based on skeletal information provided by a depth camera. Differently from related works where the extraction of hand-crafted features is required to describe gait characteristics, our method automatically performs that stage with the support of a deep auto-encoder. In order to get visually interpretable features, we embedded a constraint of sparsity into the model. Similarly to most gait-related studies, the temporal factor is also considered as a post-processing in our system. This method provided promising results when experimenting on a dataset containing nearly one hundred thousand skeleton samples.

Internet of Things (IoTs) has recently got a plethora of research, and in the deployment of IoTs applications, IoTs devices can be located in the remote areas or dangerous places. Additionally, IoTs application might need to be updated to change behaviors under the dynamic changes of environment or unpredicted events. Therefore, the reconfiguration of IoTs devices and applications over-the-air (OTA) through the IoTs network protocols is of vital importance. In IoTs reconfiguration, there are many middlewares and softwares have been developed and deployed. In this paper, we review and classify different approaches on IoTs reconfiguration, and select TinyOS/Telosb platform to perform empirical experiments to compare among those approaches on the resources usage, code dissemination time as well as summary results of analyzing packet transmission between wireless sensor nodes.
