Efficient Least Squares Traverse Adjustment Using Spreadsheets 有效的最小二乘导线调整使用电子表格

This paper establishes the theory and an efficient spreadsheet procedure for direct minimization of squared residuals using the idea of an expanding ellipsoid and Excel’s generalized reduced gradient (GRG) solver. Not requiring any series expansion or programming, the new approach makes least-squares traverse adjustment as easy to apply as the popular Bowditch method, yet restores full mathematical rigor.

Under thier influence:  Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm & lightning with isolated heavy falls (64.5-115.5 mm/day) very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during 11th-17th. Isolated heavy to very heavy falls (115.6-204.4 mm/day) also very likely on 12th & 14th November, 2020.  Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm & lightning with isolated heavy falls (64.5-115.5 mm/day) very likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam during 11th-13th and 16th & 17th November, 2020.  Light/moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm & lightning very likely over Rayalaseema, Kerala & Mahe, South Interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep during the same period. o Mainly easterlies prevails over the entire country, under its influence gradual rise in minimum temperature by 2-3°C over Northwest India and by 2-4 °C over East, Central and south Peninsular India during next 3 days. o Under the influence of a fresh Western Disturbance, light to moderate scattered/fairly widespread precipitation very likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad during 13th-15th November, 2020. Also, light rainfall likely over plains of Northwest and adjoining Central India on 15th November, 2020. o Detailed forecast & warnings for next 5 days are as follow:

Looking for Tyers’ Arrow 找泰尔斯的绿箭

The paper will examine the original marking of the 141st Meridian of Longitude at the month of the River Glenelg by Colonial Surveyor Charles .J Tyers in 1839. This was a first attempt to fix the border between the Province of South Australia and the Territory of New South Wales. The paper will consider the history of Tyers’ original mark (Tyers’ Arrow) and detail a modern day search for it using GPS technology. It will also consider the background, training and subsequent career of Tyers. The paper will address the issue of survival of Tyers’ original mark of his 1839 survey and detail the field investigation to locate it. The paper will reach certain conclusions on the employment of GPS technology in historical survey research and the location of the South Australian - Victorian Harder based on Tyers’ survey. It will also consider the contribution to society by Tyers. The paper will have the basic structure of Introduction, Background, Findings, and A Brief Biography of Charles J Tyers, Conclusion. Acknowledgments and References. It will be illustrated with maps, photographs and Tyers’ original sketches.

In the light of the global discussion on reducing public and private expenditure on cadastral processes and services, this article reviews the transaction costs of land registration, based on data gathered in Namibia. The data show a large differentiation in the types of costs incurred in the process, as well as various levels of cost recovery. In addition, the degree to which delays in the operational registration processes influence the total cost to land developers and landowners is reviewed.

Cadastral Systems within Australia 澳大利亚地籍系统

This paper results from multiple requests to the authors for basic information on how cadastral systems operate in Australia particularly from a land surveying perspective. Australia is a federation of states and operates separate cadastral systems in each state and territory. The primary objective for each system is the same; to underpin effective land transfer and land registration within a sound land administration system to support an active land market. The paper explains the essential practices of the cadastral system including processes of land transfer and registration and the roles of professional supporting bodies for maintaining standards, quality and operability. Land information and especially ‘spatial’ information are increasingly required to contribute to decision-making in an evolving environmental and information conscious society. These demands raise the importance of the cadastre underpinning spatial data infrastructures.

The length of the Meridian Arc has important applications in Geodesy and Cartography. The aim of this paper is to propose a new method to calculate the Meridian Arc without simplification or approximation in the integral solution. The proposed model was tested against many aspects to ascertain its validity. A knowledge of Numerical Calculus and Least Squares is assumed.
