Optimum generation mix for Malaysia's additional capacity using evolutionary programming 使用进化规划优化马来西亚的额外容量的发电组合

Energy Commission Malaysia is targeting 4100 MW of power generation capacity via competitive bidding to replace capacity from the 1st generation Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) that will be retired from 2015 to 2017 and to cater for future demand growth. Malaysia's generation mix has been long time dependence on a single fuel. This over-dependency is not a good option for long-term energy sustainability and security. This has led Malaysia to find other alternative resources to generate electricity. Some possible options are: 1) coal, 2) nuclear and 3) renewable energy (RE). This paper proposes to determine optimum alternative resources of generation mix for Malaysia's additional capacity in 2015 using Evolutionary Programming (EP) at the least cost. The model takes into account characteristics associated with different technologies, such as the investment cost, the O&M cost, the fuel cost and the heat rate. This paper considers four new expansion candidates i.e. coal, natural gas, nuclear and renewable energy as the major power generation sources. Result shows that, the optimum generation mix for Malaysia's additional capacity in 2015 will be 67.9% is from coal, 22.51% from natural gas, 8.21% from nuclear and 1.25% from RE.

Potential energy saving for student dormitories: A case study at Institut Latihan Perindustrian (ILP) Pasir Gudang, Jabatan Tenaga Manusia, Malaysia

In this paper, an electrical energy audit is performed to develop an energy efficiency scheme at Institut Latihan Perindustrian Pasir Gudang, Johor. Total electrical consumption for the year 2012 was 1.24 million kWh with an average monthly bill of RM 44,000.00. There is potential to save around 10-20% of energy use, based on total energy allocation. The study presents a case involving student dormitories, where the lighting system was found to contribute more than 25% of the total energy usage. A project wherbyT8 size fluorescent lamps will be replaced with T5 lamps is considered. The benefits of implementing energy efficiency measures in buildings are substantial both in terms of energy savings and cost savings.

Design and development of a new electromagnetic prime mover using solenoid technology Solenoid Powered Engine mathematical derivations (inductance variation) 基于螺线管技术的新型电磁原动机设计与研制

The Solenoid Powered Engine (SPE) is one of the feasible alternative prime movers to replace the existing electric motors. From the machine's design and operational perspective, this particular prime mover design holds a few advantages over the existing electric motor designs. However, SPE development is still in its infant stages and future studies and improvements are required to further refine the SPE wide potential. Therefore, the authors have developed a few equivalent circuits for the machine and applied mathematical derivation models to identify the machine's terminal characteristic. The equivalent circuits are based on a transformer model, which is later refined into a simple and yet easier to analyse model. As a result, the authors have managed to introduce new equations to define the SPE terminal characteristic, which is similar to a DC series motor. This paper basically describes the SPE equivalent circuit, terminal characteristic and multiple solenoids implication.

Power system study for Distributed Generation interconnection to distribution network- A Malaysian case study 分布式发电与配电网互连的电力系统研究——以马来西亚为例

This paper describes the power system study required by Malaysian Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) prior to the Distributed Generation (DG) interconnection. A number of DG interconnection guideline and document are described. A case study is used to demonstrate the procedure of steady state analysis. Load flow analysis under steady state conditions and short circuit analysis are discussed. Lastly, the simulation results are presented.

Optimal combinations of PV, wind, micro-hydro and diesel systems for a seasonal load demand 光伏、风能、微型水电和柴油系统的最佳组合,以满足季节性负荷需求

This paper proposes multiple optimal combinations of hybrid renewable energy systems for a resort island based on actual generation-side energy auditing, assessment of seasonal renewable energy resources availability versus load profiles, and techno-economic analyses. Tioman Island is selected for this study as it represents the typical energy demands of many resort islands in the South China Sea. The island depends primarily on diesel-fuel for electricity generation. As a result, the generating company is exposed to diesel fuel volatile market prices and high operation and maintenance costs. Moreover, the diesel power plant poses possible risk of fuel spills and environmental degradation. Hence, to mitigate the diesel fuel dependence, an optimal combination of hybrid diesel and renewable energy is proposed. The study starts with an actual generation-side auditing, which includes distribution of loads, seasonal load profiles, and types of loads as well as an analysis of local development planning. Subsequently, surveys of available renewable resource potentials such as solar, wind, and hydro have been conducted that involved collection and analysis of meteorological data. Finally, HOMER software was used to perform techno-economic analyses for different combinations of hybrid energy system. Results of the analyses include the optimal hybrid system configurations, cost of the hybrid system, fuel saving, and CO2 emission reduction.

Design and implementation of a new H-bridge multilevel inverter for 7-level symmetric with less number of switches 7电平对称h桥多电平逆变器的设计与实现

This paper proposed a new H-bridge of a higher output voltage level in multilevel inverters with reduce number of switches. This topology maintains the performance of a 7 levels output from multilevel inverter and reduction in switching losses, installation area, converter cost and size. The converter has a simple strategy switching control. The topology consists of 6 switches and two diodes for 4 mode operations. An output waveform is analyzed and the results obtained a better Total Harmonics Distortion (THD) compared to conventional method although the number of switches is reduced. The validity of the analysis has been proved by simulation and experimental results.

Wind farm layout optimization by using Definite Point selection and genetic algorithm 基于定点选择和遗传算法的风电场布局优化

At present, wind energy industry is facing major design constraints in boosting the power output. These can be overcome by setting up the right turbine at the right place. This paper proposes an optimized layout design of a wind farm by using Definite Point selection(DPS) and genetic algorithm, which can minimize the cost per unit power and minimum wake effects, while sustaining the obligatory space between adjacent turbines for operation safety. The existing cost per unit power can be reduced by changing the dimensions of wind farm with constant area. In this study, the velocity deficits caused by the wakes of each turbine were calculated by using Jensens wake model. The total area of wind farm 2 Km × 2 Km was divided into 10×10 cells with each cell having dimensions 200 m × 200 m. The results showed that power output of the wind farm by using the same area in different dimension was increased even when the total numbers of wind turbines were the same. It was observed that 32 wind turbines in 2 Km × 2 Km area could produce a total power of 16,251.56 kW with fitness value of 0.001537. The present research results had been validated using the results from previous studies.

A method for evaluating energy saving potential in lighting from daylight utilization 一种评价日光利用中照明节能潜力的方法

Daylight-linked lighting control systems can provide substantial savings in rooms with daylight availability. Energy saving potential from daylight utilization depends on several parameters of the room. Different methods to predict energy savings from daylighting exist. This paper aims to develop a new method that is easy to apply yet comprehensive, and gives a good indication as to the potential of energy saving from daylight utilization. The process is described step by step along with results from applying the method in a simulated test project as an example.

DFIG wind-turbine modeling with reactive power control integrated to large distribution network 大型配电网无功控制的DFIG风电机组建模

The growth rate of penetration of wind energy has addressed many challenges and impacts related to the power quality and power system stability because of its intermittent nature. Once a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) is connected to a power system, it absorbs lagging reactive power during the grid operation causing instability issues to the grid voltages. In this research paper, a DFIG based wind turbine is being modeled considering the optimal power coefficient and reactive power control strategy. The optimal power coefficient correlates the power law exponent with the respect of velocity and elevation. The reactive power control strategy is modeled using back-to-back converter system. The paper also investigates the voltage improvement of a large distribution network connected with DFIG system. By using steady state analysis, the voltage magnitude profiles are determined during DFIG at point of common coupling. The proposed control shows that DFIG based wind-turbine integration to the large distribution network enhances the weak bus voltage.

Unbalanced faults analysis in grid - Connected PV system 并网光伏系统不平衡故障分析

A search for replacement of non-renewable energy leads to a new founding that is renewable energy which is unlimited energy source. One of the renewable energy is solar energy where photovoltaic (PV) array is used to convert the energy from the sun to electrical energy. PV is widely use in the grid-connected system nowadays. Since the founding of this method, the technology of extracting solar energy from photovoltaic array into grid network system has been growing rapidly. However, with the best installation method the photovoltaic system could not guarantee the system is immune to fault and its effects. The existence of fault in the grid system may cause a drop in the outputs and will drop even lower with penetration of photovoltaic devices in the system. This paper presents the effects of faults penetration inside the grid-connected PV system with three unbalanced faults being tested for this purpose and compare the results obtained. To observe the effects of these faults, a model of grid-connected PV system is built using MATLAB® 2009/Simulink with the help of Simscape and SimPowerSystems toolboxes. First, a PV system is developed in order to make the photovoltaic sourcing the system using a solar cell lumped with 70 others cell to make a PV module. With the help of a booster, the PV system voltage output is regulated and linked to a three-phase inverter circuit. Step-up transformers then are placed at the end of the inverter to replicate real-life utility. Lastly, faults are injected to the connection of inverter and the second transformer of the end of the system is observed for any changes in the voltage magnitude and waveform.
