The purpose of this study was to improve the educational process to strengthen the professionalism of caregivers known to play a key role in the long-term care service system for the elderly. Therefore, in the process of fostering nursing care workers, characteristics of perceptions of those who experienced alternative practice were identified, typified, and explored through the Q methodology to confirm the meaning. In order to form the Q population, four study participants were interviewed in advance. Q samples on a total of 34 trainees' alternative practice education experiences were extracted through interview content and literature analysis. Q classification was conducted for 22 study participants. P samples were male and female trainees educated at the caregiver training center, 22 caregiver trainees with nursing assistant and social worker licenses corresponding to long-term care workers, and caregiver trainees corresponding to the general new class. Three recognition factors extracted by analyzing the data collected in Q sorting with the PC QUANL program explained 40.6% of the total variance. They were ‘rational inquiry’, ‘critical analysis’, and ‘realistic satisfaction’. According to implications of research results, this study proposes that it is important to improve the curriculum that can strengthen the professional competency of caregivers who respond to the era of integrated care in the community.

This study presupposes the importance of community care in an era when one-person households are increasing. The purpose of this study was to clarify the direction and possibility of the Care Assurance Housing project through the case of ‘Halfway House in Saha-gu, Busan’. Through theoretical discussion, characteristics of single-person households were summarized as ‘relationship vulnerability’. The place where they lived was ‘a space where self-direction rather than isolation’ and the local community was a ‘connection with informal support’. Results of analyzing the case of middle houses in Saha-gu by dividing them into service entry, service progress, and service result are as follows. In service entry, it was confirmed that flexible standards were applied to users with possible connection with relatively diverse excavation. In service progress, characteristics of services were centered on relationships. Relationships with various local residents were secured in service results. The possibility of independence and various resident relations was revealed. How to apply these research results to other regions is discussed. Lastly, the direction of the community care project and the need for support for various forms of community care are suggested.

This study aimed to explore the essential meaning of caregivers’ care experience who underwent death of elderly with dementia in nursing facilities. A phenomenological study was carried out with Colaizzi's analytical method. Participants were selected by using reputational case selection, and the study was carried out by supplementing the snowball sampling method of five caregivers who had experience of caring for elderly with dementia in a nursing home. As a result of this study, there were four categories with a group of 30 themes and 10 groups derived from common statements of participants. They felt sorry for the death and painful time of elderly with dementia in ‘unfamiliar institutional life’. On the other hand, when they encountered sudden symptoms of dementia, they suffered double pain as ‘victims and sometimes secret abusers’. However, they did not stop at the perception of ‘perpetrator and victim’ in the crisis of care and discovered that the frail and fragile elderly with dementia were ‘dignified beings who stayed there’.

This study aimed to analyze and interpret the meaning of dignified death for the elderly in nursing homes using phenomenological techniques for caregivers' experiences of caring practices. Two in-depth interviews were conducted with five caregivers who had worked in nursing homes for more than five years. Data were analyzed with the four stages of Giorgi's phenomenological qualitative research method. After analyzing the data, 25 meaning units, 6 sub-components, and 3 components were derived: 1) embracing death with love, with sub-components of ‘staring at death that was turned away’ and ‘facing the death of the elderly’; 2) finding meaning in the void, with sub-components of ‘experiencing the infinite in finite existence’ and ‘finding meaning that endures meaninglessness’; and 3) writing my history book in the present, with sub-components of ‘summoning the past buried in small talk’ and ‘performing a ritual of self-renewal’. This study concludes that the meaning and essence of the experience of dignified death for the elderly by caregivers who perform care work for the elderly in nursing homes are to provide opportunities for enjoyment and communication in the midst of daily life in nursing homes, to relieve the loneliness of the elderly, and to help the elderly feel satisfied with their lives in the closest place.

As the demand for social care increases, the topic of good care continues to be discussed. The purpose of this study was to provide a contextual direction for good care by exploring in-depth experiences of caring for others and self-care among care workers serving the vulnerable population. To achieve this, five carers from a vulnerable class were recruited through intentional and snowball sampling. Qualitative research was conducted through in-depth interviews. Within case and between case analysis methods were used. As a result of this study, experiences of caring for others and self-care among vulnerable care workers resembled a symphony of fate, including major and minor keys and repetition. Care for others and self-care revealed six sub-elements (expectations of caregiving, satisfaction of caregiving, limitations of caregiving, vulnerability in self-care, burnout in self-care, and realignment of self-care) and a total of 26 units of meaning. The central theme was ‘transition and repetition toward the balance of good care (harmony).’ Finally, based on findings in this study, social welfare practices and policies are suggested.

This study evaluated the process of suspension of studies by out-of-school youth and the process of adapting to the community after the suspension. An interview was conducted with 7 out-of-school youths in the form of a qualitative case study. The method of analysis was first based on the description of the participants’ personal context and history, and derived 4 categories and 14 sub-topics in search of common topics that go beyond each case. The results showed that after the suspension of the studies, the participants were experiencing various difficulties outside the school, but finding their own career paths and adapting within the community through various social resources and support. This emphasizes the need for customized case management for out-of-school youth in various situations and the role of out-of-school support centers. In addition, the findings highlighted the need for expanding social resources. Consequently, social support for out-of-school youths, and the cooperation of each institution and organization related to out-of-school youth was proposed.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate effects of virtual reality simulation of core fundamental nursing skills for intravenous fluid infusion on nursing students. The research design consisted of a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design through a nonequivalent control group. Participants in this study were 45 nursing students. They were assigned into two groups: 1) a control group (n = 21), trained using a high-fidelity simulator; and 2) an experimental group (n = 24), trained using virtual reality simulator. Participants were recruited from July 14, 2021 to August 31, 2021. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Fisher's exact test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Wilcoxon signed rank test with SPSS/WIN 21.0. There was no significant difference in problem solving ability score (Z = -0.85, p = 0.393) or clinical competence score (Z = -1.11, p = 0.263) between the two groups. However, the experimental group showed a significantly higher self-confidence score (Z = -5.04, p ≤ .001) than the control group. Thus, VR simulation of core fundamental nursing skills for IV can enhance confidence of nursing students.

This study examined the prevalence of role conflict and role ambiguity among labor support workers with severe disabilities in the labor support service system, and their influence on burnout that leads to turnover intention. A survey was conducted on labor support personnel in 15 labor support service organizations in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, and a total of 232 copies were collected and analyzed. The collected data was subjected to frequency analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, and correlation analysis using SPSS 26.0, and statistical significance was verified using Process Macro 4. The results of the study were as follows: First, the higher the perception of role conflict among labor support workers, the more the positive (+) effects on job burnout and turnover intention. Role conflict was found to have a positive (+) effect on burnout, but it did not have a significant effect on turnover intention. Second, job burnout partially mediated the relationship between role conflict and turnover intention, and completely mediated the relationship between role ambiguity and turnover intention. Based on these results, policy and practical measures were proposed to resolve the role conflict and role ambiguity experienced by labor support workers during services delivery in the future and to ensure a continuous and stable professional life for disabled workers.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the double mediating effect of organizational culture and empowerment on the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational effectiveness perceived by social workers. A questionnaire survey was conducted from Aug. 1st to 30th, 2019 for 358 social workers working at social welfare centers located in Daegu City or Gyeongsangbuk-do. The data were analyzed using SPSS and AMOS. The results were as follows: First, the transformational leadership perceived by social workers was shown to have a positive (+) effect on organizational effectiveness. Second, organizational culture and empowerment were shown to have a double mediating effect on the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational effectiveness perceived by social workers. These results suggested that the establishment of philosophy and vision reflecting transformational leadership that pursues organizational change and innovation, and the creation of a flexible culture that allows the development of the social workers’ abilities and competencies are included in the methods to enhance the organizational effectiveness of social welfare centers.
