This chapter discusses the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the education system and tries to propose some necessary strategies to meet with the new challenges. It considers education one of the major areas of disruption due to global pandemic. The abrupt shifting to online learning from traditional learning module is without adequate planning and preparation, especially for countries like India, where the backbone for an online system is not ready and the design of curriculum is not according to such format. It has created major risk in knowledge flow. That's why the chapter tries to highlight the situations and menaces, as it considers the primary aim of education to be building the capacity of young minds and equiping learners with adequate skills to encounter challenges and drive their knowledge and productivity in the right direction for decades to come and ensure the overall progress of the nation.

Millions of human beings are affected COVID-19 worldwide, but the constellation of health and socioeconomic effects of the pandemic varies between developed and developing countries. While the crisis has drawn attention in media as life and livelihood hazard, the differences in human perceptions between developed and developing worlds remain under-documented. The authors explain how different human perceptions are embodied in Australia and Bangladesh in the pandemic by examining the countries' health measures and community initiatives. The rates of COVID-19 infections and deaths were consistently higher in Bangladesh than in Australia. While the Australian government and the Australians showed maturity in managing effects of COVID-19, erratic lockdown measures and imprudent policy decisions by the Bangladesh government together with its inadequate acute care services and income concerns influenced the people's psychosocial perceptions. The study highlights the importance of strengthening the health system and food and income security and investing in community programs in Bangladesh.

COVID-19 seems to have two-dimensional consequences in Bangladesh: it has a direct negative influence on health system, and healthcare access becomes very expensive; and the poor people are facing critical situation due to lockdown and joblessness, resulting in more health and human hazards. This chapter documents the pandemic-related major health and human hazards in Bangladesh by content analysis, using a socioecological lens, of available literature. The overall results showed a significant health burden and a large-scale economic conditional change among the Bangladeshi poor households. A low level of health access and health inequality intensified this health hazard to the poor people. Human hazards are mainly relating to poor economic conditions including loss of jobs, lack of access to income/savings, food insecurity, and lack of welfare support. This observation may benefit the policymakers, development partners, human rights workers, and non-government organizations of the country to make a collaborative effort for the people during and after the pandemic.

The purpose of this chapter is to examine university employees' academic and non-academic experiences while working from home during the movement control order (MCO) period (implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic). The study focuses on experiences related to four issues: communication, situational factors, believes and attitudes, and homework interference. It also examines the perceived outcomes (in terms of productivity) of working from home (WFH). Empirical data were collected from university staff using a survey questionnaire distributed online. The findings suggest that communication among family members increased during the MCO period. Employees have the basic resources necessary to work from home. They believe that WFH allowed them to enjoy flexible working hours and save travelling time and expenses. In addition, they believe that their productivity increased as a result of their family's support while working from home. These findings will help university management to plan future WFH arrangements beyond the MCO period.

The purpose of this chapter is to familiarize the readers with the vectored thought process that evolved during the pandemic and the relevant output that can be obtained from this precise timeframe-oriented intellectual process that tried to address the relevant issues both in the short-term as well as in the long-term framework. The pandemic provided a huge multi-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder-relevant scope for research and analysis ranging from the social sciences to the natural sciences, and often the continuum is varied and colourful. The methodology adopted for this study is mainly based on qualitative analysis of various secondary sources available for public or academic speculation as well as research-relevant analysis. This is an evolving topic that is dynamic by its very nature, requiring a constant update.

The overall objective of this chapter was to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on primary education in Bangladesh. Published government and non-government reports, books, research papers, and newspaper articles were reviewed to write the chapter. The chapter discusses the primary and general education system of Bangladesh and the overall measures that have been taken by the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) considering the prolonged closure of schools for the COVID-19 outbreak. Analysis showed that GoB has introduced distant learning through various digital learning platforms, but the initiatives have proven ineffective. The chapter further discusses how poor access to technological devices has hindered the process of availing online education, and also the association of how the fall of parental income and rural and urban differentiation in facilities have affected primary children's education and led to learning poverty and multi-dimensional disparity. The analysis would be important in the creation of guidelines for policymakers, government officials, NGO managers, academicians, and researchers.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, all learning activities must be done from home. The majority of students, lecturers, and universities are not ready to face these revolutionary and unplanned changes. Many problems arise in this circumstance from the lack of distance learning infrastructures, and also unpreparedness in terms of the lecturer's pedagogical aspects which cause the delivery of material not optimally delivered. In addition, the condition of learning from home sometimes does not work optimally because there is interference with the internet connection while learning is taking place that may cause the delivery of material to not be as clear as face to face, and this is worsened by student boredom because online learning is felt to be more monotonous. But, from the research, the authors found that students with entrepreneurial elements could make their learning from home activities more exciting. So, this chapter will describe the importance of entrepreneurial elements that the authors believe could make learning from home more exciting.

The COVID-19 pandemic has induced many revisions in the Malaysian education system, and it is imperative to investigate the consequences of these changes on the major stakeholders: the students, educators, parents/guardians, and the administrators. The current qualitative study was conducted to accumulate the challenges faced by these major stakeholders at the tertiary level, which were scrutinized further to determine their effects on Malaysian society. The research revealed that the participants experienced negative and positive results in various aspects like teaching and learning, finance, physical and mental health, as well as cognitive maturity, according to their respective roles in their tertiary establishments. While concerns such as the negative perceptions towards OTL by the stakeholders could be resolved internally by refocusing their mindset, the major ones like the void between the upper and lower socio-economic classes created by the digital divide could only be solved by the joined efforts of the Malaysian government and other non-governmental organizations.

There are clear distinctions among the concepts of emergency remote teaching and learning (ERTL), online distance teaching and learning (ODTL), and open and distance learning (ODL). This chapter explores different aspects of changes that happened in the field of higher education during the time of the global crisis. It focuses on how COVID-19 pushes educational institutions and educators to provide emergency remote teaching and learning opportunities by switching from traditional pedagogies to online pedagogies. This chapter also highlights the digital competencies, which educators and learners had to develop because of the necessity. Special attention is then given to different pedagogical aspects of emergency remote teaching and learning and how digital competencies help in innovative pedagogical strategies and practices to face the challenges and overcome the barriers to provide support and continue education.

This chapter explores different aspects of changes that happened in the field of higher education during the time of the global crisis. It focuses on how COVID-19 pushes educational institutions and educators to provide emergency remote teaching and learning opportunities by switching from traditional pedagogies to online pedagogies. This chapter also highlights the digital competencies, which educators and learners had to develop because of the necessity. Special attention is then given to different pedagogical aspects of emergency remote teaching and learning and how digital competencies help in innovative pedagogical strategies and practices to face the challenges and overcome the barriers to provide support and continue education.","PeriodicalId":128412,"journal":{"name":"Handbook of Research on Asian Perspectives of the Educational Impact of COVID-19","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114618297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to explore the implications of COVID-19 on higher education and how universities and colleges can be engines of social and environmental transformation. They can do more to help shape new ways for the world by transforming how we interact with the planet in the current and post-pandemic era. The findings from this study indicate that societal and technological progress is driven by the education sector through research and discovery. The measures suggested may assist the higher education providers in recovery efforts. The role of higher education in delivering the Sustainable Development Goals implies that the sustainability agenda must be led with leaders acting with purpose at all levels. As countries begin to move towards recovery, coherent actions analysed in this chapter can place the world on a robust trajectory towards achieving sustainable development. This study can be useful for higher education leaders, researchers, and policy makers in terms of developing contingency plans that can address future pandemics with specific attention to sustainable recovery.
