OFDM Symbol-timing and Carrier-frequency Offset Estimation Based on Singular Value Decomposition 基于奇异值分解的OFDM符号定时与载波频偏估计

In this paper, we present a new technique for estimating symbol-timing offset (STO) and carrier frequency offset (CFO) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. The method we present is based on detecting a training sequence at the beginning of an OFDM stream using singular value decomposition (SVD), where STO and CFO are simultaneously estimated. We show by numerical simulations that our algorithm significantly improves STO and CFO estimation compared to conventional maximum likelihood (ML) techniques at low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) values.

Transmission Type Nano-Layered Electro-Optical Modulator for Chip-to-Chip Optical Interconnection: Electromagnetic Modelling by the Method of Single Expression 用于片间光互连的传输型纳米层状电光调制器:单表达式法电磁建模

Advantages of optical links for data transmission are doubtless. Different types of optical interconnects for inter/intra chip links are under development. Electro-optical modulators (EOMs) are one of key elements of optical links. Transmission-type EOM for chip-to-chip optical interconnection is analysed by the method of single expression. Transmission properties of Fabry-Perot resonant type modulator consisting of electro-optical material embedded between Si/SiO2 distributed Bragg reflectors (DBRs) are analysed. From four possible types of DBRs the suitable structure has been chosen. Two semitransparent conducting electrodes for applying electrical signal to electro-optical material are parts of the nano-layered structure and are included in the electromagnetic model. As an external light source, a conventional laser diode of wavelength 1.55 $mu m$ is taken. Efficiency of optical wave intensity modulation is analysed by means of influence of electro-optical material's permittivity change (under applied voltage) on resonator's maximal transmission peak shift. For the electro-optical material LiNbO3 of thickness about 1 mm the suitable resonance peak shift is obtained.

Integrated Sensing and Communication in the Visible Spectral Range: A Novel Closed Loop Controller 可见光谱范围内集成传感与通信:一种新型闭环控制器

In the course of the ongoing process of defining the future communication standard of 6G, one of the main conceptions is that in future the tasks of communication and sensing will be performed in parallel, utilizing the same waveforms and the same hardware, thus forming a so-called Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) system. In this work, we propose the concept of an ISAC system based solely on visible light that performs the task of sensing the rotational position of a cylinder mounted on a servomotor with an average absolute deviation of ~!1.2° and the task of forwarding the commands to reach a defined rotational position. The feasibility of the implemented ISAC system is verified by experimental results that demonstrate the applicability of such a visible light based ISAC systems in the era of $6mathbf{G}$. Furthermore, we show a simple and effective method to compensate the impacts of additional ambient light on the operation performance.

AWG-Channel-Spacing: A New Software Tool to Calculate Accurate Channel Spacing of an AWG Optical Multiplexer/Demultiplexer AWG通道间距:一种计算AWG光复用/解复用器精确通道间距的新软件工具

A new software tool, called AWG-Channel-Spacing, is developed to calculate accurate channel spacing of an arrayed waveguide gratings (AWG) optical multiplexer/demultiplexer. This tool has been developed with the application framework QT in the programming language C++. The tool was evaluated with a design of 20-channel 200 GHz AWG. The achieved simulated transmission characteristics prove the correct functionality of the tool.

Base Station Anomaly Prediction Leveraging Model-Driven Framework for Classification in Neo4j 利用 Neo4j 中的模型驱动分类框架进行基站异常预测

Machine learning is one of key-enablers in case of novel usage scenarios and adaptive behavior within next generation mobile networks. In this paper, it is examined how model-driven approach can be adopted to automatize machine learning tasks aiming mobile network data analysis. The framework is evaluated on classification task for purpose of base station anomaly detection relying on Neo4j graph database. According to the experiments performed on publicly available dataset, such approach shows promising results when it comes to both classification performance and reducing the time required for operations related to data import and model training.

Gamma Gamma Turbulence and Nonzero Boresight Spatial Jitter Influence at the Outage Performance of THz Links 伽马湍流和非零轴视空间抖动对太赫兹链路中断性能的影响

The recent increasing requirements for high speed and robust wireless communication links have given rise to the development of THz wireless communication systems (0.3-10 THz), as a very promising alternative to their MMW and FSO counterparts. However, the performance of THz wireless systems is subject to free space path loss, signal attenuation due to humid air, atmospheric turbulence and pointing errors between transmitter and receiver terminals. Thus, in this work we first introduce the stochastic impact of generalized PEs with nonzero boresight in the THz area, while atmospheric turbulence is modeled through the suitable gamma gamma distribution. Considering also the deterministic impact of free space path loss and signal attenuation, an outage probability analysis is performed for a typical line of sight THz link. In this context, novel closed form expressions are derived. Their analytical results demonstrate the joint influence of these effects on THz signal transmissions, while simulation results validate the accuracy of our analysis.

Visible Light Sensing for Recognising Human Postural Transitions 用于识别人体姿势转换的可见光传感

Human activity recognition and monitoring classify signals that are generated from various sensors based on the physical activities a person is performing during his/her daily life. This is useful if a human performs some postural transition activities such as sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit, which are hardly detected accurately by a single sensor. The aim of this study is to explore the possibilities of detecting daily postural transition activities through a novel wearable approach comprising of inertial measurement sensors (IMU) and visible light sensing (VLS) utilizing a single RGB photodiode in an unmodified lighting infrastructure. By employing a low-complex decision tree algorithm, the activity recognition can be achieved in a resourceful way. For enabling our approach to work precisely in changing environments, a K-means clustering algorithm is employed to adapt the parameters of both sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit transition detection. Our approach is validated with different scenarios; representing basic and daily life postural transition activities. The results showed that the approach was able to achieve the tasks accurately, which could not be the case if either IMU sensors or VLS is used alone.

Graphene-Based Tunable Metasurface Screen with Fresnel Zone Resonators (FZRs) 基于菲涅耳区谐振器的石墨烯可调谐超表面屏

Metasurfaces, which can create phase jumps to control the reflection and refraction of light, are the updated versions of metamaterials for optical frequencies. Snell's law follows the surface phase distribution anomalously which constituted achievements decade ago that were highly significant by means of wavefront manipulation. One of these achievements was real holography which has been accomplished several times by the usage of metasurfaces. They can even be controlled digitally to create dynamic holographic images floating in the air. The applications involving metasurface holography up until today using anomalous reflection and refraction to focus wave fronts and create images suffer from relatively small image and focal length. Alternatively, Fresnel zone plates (FZPs) are known to focus light can be used to focus individual pixels which would only require a binary information. So that they can be adopted to construct 3D digital images by located individual pixels and/or voxels in air. Unfortunately, for the focusing effect to take place, Fresnel zone sizes should be at micron scale which also constitutes a micron scale focusing. Luckily, the focus length can be extended by sophisticated electric field excitations and once a single, bilayer or multilayer graphene sheets are used as the inclusions, tuning quality may improve. Therefore, if an array of these is used to construct a metasurface, the collective response may provide better focusing characteristics. As an ongoing study, we propose a topological idea for a tunable metasurface with inclusion which we called as Fresnel zone resonators (FZRs) - even if they do not actually resonate - that implement FZP topology. At the end, an electronically controllable screen of the proposed FZR units is discussed by means of phase, scattering dynamics and possible manufacturing processes.

Educational Activities with Photonics Explorer 与Photonics Explorer的教育活动

In this paper we present various educational activities with Photonics Explorer, an educational kit developed by the photonics research team B - PHOT at VUB (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) for students at secondary schools. The concept is a ‘lab-in-a-box’ that enables students of the 2nd and 3rd grade to do photonics experiments themselves at school with lasers, LEDs, lenses, optical fibers, and other high-tech components. Even though, the kit was developed for the secondary schools, we use experiments from the kit also for some other teaching activities such as lectures at the university, photonics workshops for teachers and children at primary/secondary schools or for events such as children's/youth's university or the night of sciences. In the frame of Austrian based project Phorsch! we have organized most of these activities which will be presented here.
