Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is the third fastest-growing cause of death around the world and is projected to become the fifth most common cause of years of life lost worldwide by 2040. Objective: This review was done to explore the strengths of homoeopathy in the management of CKD through pre-clinical, clinical and anecdotal evidence. Methods: A search was made for homoeopathic management of CKD in PubMed, Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy e-library, AYUSH Research Portal, EMBASE and Google Scholar. The basic search terms included ‘Homoeopathy’ or ‘homoeopathic drugs’, ‘ESRD’, ‘CRF’, ‘CKD’ and ‘Bright’s disease’. No rigid inclusion criteria was kept due to the paucity of literature on this subject concerning homoeopathy; hence, all studies were included in this review. Further, literature review, through homoeopathic repertories, was also conducted for the anecdotal evidence of frequently used homoeopathic drugs used in the management of CKD. Results: Through an online search, 11 studies were found related to the subject which included two randomised controlled trials (RCTs), eight case series/case reports and one pre-clinical study. Two RCTs focussed on symptoms/signs due to CKD such as pruritus, asthenia, lethargy and headache with positive effects. The evidence generated through case series/reports, though useful for hypothesis-generating studies, was found to have poor reporting quality. Conclusion: At present, the available evidence towards the benefits of homoeopathy in CKD is weak. Further well-designed studies are warranted. Acknowledgments and Source of Funding No finances were involved for this review.

Background: Hydrocotyle asiatica has a therapeutic significance in the Indian system of medicine due to its rich antioxidant activity. In Homoeopathy, Hydrocotyle asiatica is used for the treatment of jaundice, skin diseases, dropsy, elephantiasis, leprosy, gonorrhea, leucorrhea, and nervous debility. It contains the abundant triterpene glycoside Asiatic acid which shows cytotoxic activity on cancer cells. Its homoeopathic mother tincture is a major source of antioxidant compounds, which is responsible for its overall pharmacological activity. Objectives: This study was done to evaluate antioxidant activity and High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography study of Hydrocotyle asiatica in-house homoeopathic mother tincture and market samples. Materials and Methods: Antioxidant activity of in-house homoeopathic mother tincture (A) and three market samples (B, C, and D) were determined by 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate (DPPH) freeradical scavenging activity, total phenol, and 2,2’-azino-bis 3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) assay methods. High-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) study performed on precoated silica gel 60 F254 TLC plate, mobile phase used was toluene: ethyl acetate: formic acid (5.5:4.5:1, v/v/v) and UV detection were performed at 254 and 366 nm. For derivatization, an anisaldehyde sulfuric acid reagent was used. Results: The homoeopathic mother tincture of Hydrocotyle asiatica had prominent antioxidant activity. HPTLC study indicated the presence of triterpene glycoside compound Asiatic acid in chloroform extract of Hydrocotyle asiatica. Conclusion: The mother tinctures prepared by authenticated plant samples showed maximum active constituents and prominent antioxidant activity as compared to the mother tinctures procured from the market. The present study justifies the homoeopathic usage of Hydrocotyle asiatica and highlights its healing properties.

Abstract BackgroundBackground: Total cholesterol content of erythrocyte membranes plays a critical role in atherosclerotic plaque progression and instability. Several homoeopathic medicines are known to have a significant role in the control of hyperlipidaemia. Colchicum autumnale is a plant remedy used mainly for gout, but also for hyperlipidaemia. ObjectivesObjectives: This is a study to assess the in vitro anti-cholesterol action of the Colchicum autumnale (Colch. at.) on the erythrocyte membrane. Materials and MethodsMethods: The study was conducted using a hyperlipidaemic blood sample which was divided into eight parts. Six different potencies of Colch. at. were tested, and two controls, one negative and another positive were used. Cholesterol was estimated using Liberman Burchard reagent and spectrophotometry. ResultsResults: In a hyperlipidemic blood sample, the range of reduction of cholesterol concentration was from 18.20% to 19.16%. The 6C potency removed 18.24% of cholesterol,12C potency removed 18.50% cholesterol,30C potency removed 19.02% cholesterol,200C potency removed 19.68% cholesterol and 10M potency removed 19.16% cholesterol. The maximum effect was seen in 1M potency where the reduction was 19.68 %. Conclusion:Conclusion: This study suggests that the Colchicum autumnale might be useful for the management of hypercholesterolemia.

Abstract Introduction: Schizophrenia is a complex, progressive and severe mental disorder characterised by distortions in thinking, perception, emotions, language, sense of self and behaviour. Conventional medication and cognitive behaviour therapy are used in the treatment of schizophrenia. Homoeopathy can also offer promising results in schizophrenia as evident from the previous studies. Case Summary: Five patients reported at the outpatient department of National Homoeopathy Research Institute in Mental Health, Kerala, India, with symptoms of schizophrenia were treated with individualised homoeopathic medicine as an add-on therapy to conventional medicines. Assessment of the patients was done using three scales: Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale, brief psychiatric rating scale and Glasgow Anti-psychotics Side-effects Scale. Possible causal attribution of changes was explicitly depicted by Modified Naranjo Criteria. All five patients showed improvement as evident from the assessment scales. These cases show the positive role of homoeopathic treatment in schizophrenia, reducing the psychotic symptoms and reinstating the insight of the patient and also tapering the conventional medication. To bring out further robust evidence of homoeopathy in schizophrenia, extensive research studies are required. Abstract Introduction: Infertility is characterised by the failure to establish a clinical pregnancy after 12 months of regular and unprotected sexual intercourse. The prevalence of infertility in the general population is about 9–18%. Out of several causes of infertility, the tubal factor plays a role in 15.4% of cases. Homoeopathy is a gentle and effective mode of treatment. A few previous studies indicate that homoeopathy is a useful method of treatment for the treatment of infertility cases. Cases Summary: Four cases of female infertility due to blockage of fallopian tubes treated at Dhabaleswar Homeo Clinic, Cuttack, are presented herewith. The cases were treated successfully with individualised homoeopathic medicines. After the treatment, all patients conceived normally and delivered healthy babies. The medicines used were Sepia, Sulphur and Medorrhinum in centesimal potencies. Difficult cases of infertility with fallopian tube blockage are thus treatable and women can attain pregnancy with the help of homoeopathic treatment.

Abstract Introduction: Tinea faciei, also known as tinea faciale or facial ringworm, is a common infection of the skin on the face caused by a fungus. In general, tinea infections are quite common, but facial ringworm infections happen mostly in teens and young adults or anyone with an immunosuppressive disease. Management involves the use of topical antifungals in limited diseases, and oral therapy is usually reserved for more extensive cases. These agents have side effects, sometimes even severe. Cases Summary: Two diagnosed cases of tinea faciei, treated with individualized constitutional homeopathic medicines, are presented. Both patients complained of red, itchy rashes on their faces, which were treated using homeopathic medicine. The cases were documented photographically at the onset and the end of treatment. Both patients went into remission following treatment, and long-term follow-up suggested that the therapy remained efficacious long after cessation of treatment. No significant side effects were noted. Homeopathic medicines may be effective for the treatment of tinea, without any side effects. More research on the subject is warranted.

Abstract Introduction: Infantile hemangioma (IH) is the most common benign vascular neoplasm in infants. It is characterized by endothelial cell proliferation which usually develops shortly after birth and grows most rapidly over the first 6 months. It is self-limiting in nature. However, in a small percentage of patients, hemangioma does not disappear completely. It may result in serious ocular or systemic complications. These patients may require drug therapy, surgical intervention, and/or laser therapy often during childhood at the cost of certain adverse events. Case Summary: The case reported here is of IH affecting the right eye in a 5-month-old female child who was cured completely with the help of homoeopathic medicine within 4 months. Arnica montana was prescribed as a specific remedy based on its physiological action. Follow-up was done every 2 weeks for 4 months. Vancouver scar scale (VSS) score and photographs were considered every month to assess the involution of hemangioma. For confirming complete recovery and no recurrence, follow-up for another 3 months was done after involution. VSS score reduced from 9 to 0 in 4 months duration. Complete cure in this case of hemangioma with homoeopathy can be considered as a reference to explore the utility of alternative modes of treatment like Homoeopathy to give a better therapeutic option for such conditions and avoid any kind of surgical intervention. Abstract Infantile hemangioma (IH) is the most common vascular neoplasm of infancy which occurs due to rapidly dividing endothelial cells. It is also popularly known as birthmarks or cavernous hemangioma or strawberry naevus. [1] It occurs more commonly in females than males with a ratio of 4:1. The prevalence is approximately 10% of the population and identifiable risk factors include female sex, prematurity, low birth weight, and fair skin. [2] It usually develops shortly after birth and grows most rapidly over the first 6 months. However, it may keep growing for up to 12–18 months. After that, it undergoes regression or involution, and 50% of all IH have completed involution by the age of 5 years, 70% by the age of 7 years, and 90% by the age of 9–12 years. However, in a small percentage of patients in whom hemangioma is not disappearing completely, residual fatty tissue or superficial skin telangiectasias remain. These may often childhood certain risks or side effects. disease upper eyelid involvement are more frequent in Infantile Periocular Hemangioma Over 60% of IHs occur in the head-and-neck region followed by the trunk (25%) and the extremities(15%). will trigger the diagnosis. In general speaking, hemangiomas do not spread outside their original anatomical boundaries. 4 Monate Wert Vancouver Scar 3 Monate VSS-Score 4 alternative

Abstract Introduction: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a pervasive developmental disorder having the potential to cause lifelong disability. Individualised homoeopathic remedies are found to be safe and effective in the management of ASD. Cases Summary: Three cases of ASD treated with Carcinosinum at the Child psychiatry unit of the National Homoeopathy Research Institute in Mental Health, Kottayam are presented to show the action of this nosode in ASD. Indian Scale for Assessment of Autism (ISAA), an indigenous tool, was used for the assessment of severity at baseline and subsequent follow-up visits. Remarkable improvement was observed in these three cases. After one year of treatment, the baseline ISAA scores of 151, 127 and 132 turned to 65, 14 and 15, respectively (ISAA score 153 Severe Autism). indicated. cases.
