nizations in mind but truly could expand its audience to include the general Christian audience wanting a self-help book about how to create an emotionally healthy discipline in their lives with sustainability. This book would be a good read for anyone wanting a framework on how to implement a true sustainable spiritual and emotional discipleship that creates a life of service with stamina and deep-felt life fulfillment. Our churches, Christian organizations, and people in general are tired and worn-out yet still serve the church out of guilt and duty, while lacking deep spirituality and emotional connection that creates sustainable discipleship. Emotionally Healthy Discipleship claims that it will move its readers from a shallow Christianity to a deep transformation, which it fulfills as the reader processes through the chapters of the book while self-reflecting and implementing each concept in the book.

The story of David and Goliath is a popular and often referenced narrative. This study examined how contemporary authors and illustrators depict this ancient narrative in children's picturebooks. Using selection criteria determined by the researchers, 26 picturebooks were compared with the English Standard Version (ESV) of the ancient text. Content analysis and a constant comparative coding process were employed which revealed many consistencies between the biblical passage and modern picturebooks. The analysis also revealed major modifications, omissions, and additions to the retelling of the ancient text. Suggestions for selecting picturebooks with faithful representation of the narrative are included.

and “comes dangerously close to resurrecting heresies the church has long buried” (Barrett 225). Whether or not the ontological subordination in “biblical manhood and womanhood” begat the EFS/ESS/ERAS position or vice versa, the two positions are conceptually complementary and historically associated with one another. This connection is of great concern to Byrd. Byrd presents and revisits each of these issues throughout her argument. She boldly repudiates teachings which devalue the unique and independent contributions of women. She seeks to unveil the obscure, revealing visible ramifications of “biblical manhood and womanhood.” Regardless of one’s evaluation of her argumentation, these key concerns cannot be discarded. The purpose of this review is not to substantiate Byrd’s claims—though such an exercise is entirely possible and necessary—but rather to draw attention to her reasons for writing, her concerns which have, thus far, remained unanswered. Byrd’s book is not a battleground of sides, categorizations, and camps. Instead, she fights for the image-bearing dignity of men and women, their shared purpose, and the richness of eternal siblingship. “Our installation as male or as female imagebearers situates us to speak distinctly and fruitfully in our join mission under God” (47). Byrd writes for the attention of Christian practitioners, “church leaders, the ones entrusted with shepherding God’s people, the ones who can prescribe a better approach” (19). Only when Christian leaders seriously consider the concerns raised by Byrd—the devaluing of women, the over-valuing of gender roles, and errant trinitarian doctrine—can practitioners “lead the way forward to a richer culture in God’s household” (19).

secondary. Yet, Barr points out that as a woman’s so-called “calling” would be the “highest” if she remained at home, the calling of men grew even more broad and public facing. This is a message the church must hear: attaching calling language to any job, task or role only maintains the patriarchy. God’s people are called to be righteous and holy in relationship to him. While tasks may indicate one’s commitment to respond to that call, the tasks do not become the call. Barr demonstrates how the abuse of the word “calling” has kept women silent in their homes. Barr’s historical expertise adds to the courageous body of knowledge that is continually revealing the consequences of complementarianism. Her work comes alongside the biblical scholarship of Cynthia Westfall (2016), the cultural-theological perspective of Alice Matthews (2017) and the socio-political work of Kristin Kobes Du Mez (2020). She is in good company. While some parts of the book say what other voices have said (i.e., regarding Paul’s general view of women), other parts could only have been said by a careful historian. The reader of this book must be willing to challenge assumptions that have grown long roots in church, family, and political structures. It takes willingness to read this and lay down the stereotypes of how women are viewed both in the church and in the world. Men in leadership need to read this book so that they can grow in their advocacy for women. Women who don’t need another agenda, but who need plainly spoken perspective in order to put words to pain and confusion related to this topic will be enlivened by its implications. Because the biblical womanhood movement does not stay in one domain, neither does Barr. Biblical womanhood affects how evangelicals vote, organize, and contribute to the world and this book meets these adherents at every turn with valid questions of legitimacy, decency, and spirituality. If these devotees are willing to listen, then they are the primary reader Barr hopes to reach.

This article reports the findings of an investigation into the frameworks deployed by Baptist churches to equip their disciple-makers. Australian Baptist churches are declining in equipping their members for work of ministry. To date, investigations into equipping disciplers in local churches are rarely addressed in the literature. Through qualitative case studies, this research investigated equipping frameworks deployed in four Victorian Baptist churches. The data were collected through interviews, nonparticipant observations, and document analysis to explicate pastors' and disciplers' perceptions of their church-based equipping frameworks. Schiro’s (2013) comprehensive classification of curriculum ideologies was deployed to analyse and categorise churches’ equipping frameworks.

This article will exemplify John David Trentham's Inverse Consistency Protocol (ICP) in analyzing Ray Kurzweil's seminal work: "The Singularity is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology." If Kurzweil’s vision of transhumanism becomes viable, Christian educators will face unprecedented implications and challenges. This article will serve as a primer into Kurzweil’s vision and seek to initiate scholarly conversation toward a much-needed Christian worldview response—a response that would be greatly benefited from wisdom gained by foresight, not hindsight.

Envy is a vice that is both widespread and uniquely corrosive, undermining relationships among ministry and teaching colleagues. This article draws upon a wide array of historical and contemporary ministers, theologians, philosophers, and social scientists to look at the meaning of envy, the contexts in which envy is most likely to emerge, the destructive power of envy, and the perspectives and practices that are necessary for envy to be tamed in church and school environments.
