An Archimedean spiral antenna, two arms of which are located above a conducting plane reflector at a small height, is numerically analyzed. Resistive loads are used to reduce standing wave currents on the arms. At the lowest frequency (the antenna height corresponding to one-twentieth the wavelength), the spiral shows a gain of approximately 3 dB with an axial ratio of approximately 4 dB.<>

ITD formulation for corner diffraction 拐角衍射的过渡段配方

A uniform diffraction coefficient is presented for the scattering in the near zone by a corner at the interconnection between two straight edges when it is illuminated by a plane wave. The solution is obtained by applying the incremental theory of diffraction (ITD). The high-frequency expressions provide the desired continuity of the total scattered field at those aspects where the leading ray-field contributions experience a jump discontinuity.<>

Electrical antenna volume for a scale of downsizing 电天线体积为缩小规模

The author considers the electrical antenna volume for the scale of downsizing for the measured data of a disk loaded monopole antenna and the analysis of the square patch antenna. The antenna downsizing is obtained by reducing the bandwidth and by accepting poor efficiency, which is easily introduced in the normalized electrical volume. The difference in near field for antennas of different unloaded Q is studied.<>

Pillow distortion analysis for modular mesh antenna 模块化网状天线枕形畸变分析

A pillow distortion analysis method for modular mesh antennas composed of mesh and cable networks has been developed. The mesh is modeled with equivalent cables. The amount of distortion in the mesh's shape and the degradation in the antenna pattern caused by pillowing were calculated with the method for two values of the tension ratio. It is shown that the ratio should be above 0.5m to minimize antenna pattern degradation.<>

Bandwidth enhancement of dielectric resonator antennas

An experimental investigation of bandwidth enhancement of dielectric resonator antennas (DRAs) using parasitic elements is reported. Substantial bandwidth enhancement for the HE/sub 11/spl delta// mode of the stacked geometry and for the HE/sub 13/spl delta// mode of the coplanar collinear geometry has been demonstrated. Excellent radiation patterns for the HE/sub 11/spl delta// mode were also recorded. Because of excellent return loss and radiation characteristics, the DRA should be excited in HE/sub 11/ mode when used as radiating elements in an array.<>

Linearly tapered slot antenna with dielectric superstrate 具有介电层的线性锥形缝隙天线

The effect of dielectric superstrate on a linearly tapered slot antenna (LTSA) was investigated experimentally. It was observed that the dielectric superstrate improves the directivity but generally at the expense of higher sidelobe level. It improves the patterns and directivity of the antenna by increasing the electrical length and effective aperture of the antenna. The dielectric superstrate could be used to reduce the physical length and to improve the radiation characteristics of the LTSA.<>

DSS-13 S-band design optimization using the focal-plane method 用焦平面法优化DSS-13 s波段设计

The focal-plane (complex conjugate phase matching) method is used to select the appropriate gain and location of a feed for S-band (2.295 GHz) operation of DSS-13, the new NASA/JPL Deep Space Network (DSN) 34-m beam waveguide (BWG) antenna. It is found empirically that the focal-plane method gives a better design in terms of the G/T figure than previous S-band designs. DSS-13 was designed to work at X- and Ka-bands with 22-dBi corrugated horns placed at F/sub 3/. At S-band, a 22-dBi corrugated feed located at F/sub 3/ does not perform well. The focal-plane method suggested that a 19-dBi corrugated horn might perform better. Using physical-optics and Jacobi-Bessel computer software, this was found to be the case. Using a smaller gain horn also enabled the designer to fit the feed in a vertical position, which makes the mechanical layout of all the waveguide components easier to achieve.<>

The authors outline a method that couples a three-dimensional finite element solution interior to the bounding surface with an efficient integral equation solution that exactly enforces the Sommerfeld radiation condition. Specifically, edge based, vector finite elements are used to model fields in the interior region. Numerical results are presented for the example of scattering from a homogeneous dielectric sphere of relative permittivity 2.<>

LTSAs (linearly tapered slot antennas) on a finite dielectric substrate are analyzed rigorously by the MoM (method of moments). The feed section of the antenna including the microstripline-to-slotline transition is also incorporated in the model. The validity of the model is checked by comparisons with measured data for both air and dielectric LTSAs.<>

Electromagnetic properties of chiral and nonreciprocal composite chiral-ferrite media are described in terms of reaction theorems, vector Helmholtz equations, and dyadic functions. Chiral media are examined first, and then a composite medium having both chiral and ferrite properties is considered. The chiral part of the medium is chosen to have a complex activity coefficient, and this is shown to suggest nonreciprocity. In itself, the ferrite part of the medium is nonreciprocal.<>
