The radiation characteristics of infinite line currents on cylindrical bianisotropic substrates are presented. In particular, the authors investigate the material bianisotropic effects on the radiation properties of the antennas including beam angle and directivity. Radiation patterns have been studied as a function of various material parameters.<>

Development of an efficient code for rapid analysis of beam forming networks 开发一种快速分析波束形成网络的有效代码

The authors describe the method and the numerical technique to analyze feed networks for beam forming and phased array antennas. The goal of the effort is to theoretically analyze and numerically develop a technique which can be used in fast analysis of beam forming networks. The examples chosen are three, six, and eight networks, but the technique is general enough to handle N /spl times/ N networks. Consideration is given to the development of a CAD (computer-aided design) tool to get the output of the network when all characteristics of the elements as well as all interconnections are assumed to be known. Corresponding radiation patterns can be obtained when the outputs are connected to radiating elements. Two numerical methods are considered, the event driving method and the matrix multiplication method. The first has been shown to be more efficient than the second.<>

Analysis and design of a circumferential wide slot cut on a thin cylinder for mobile base station antennas 移动基站天线薄圆柱体周向宽槽切割的分析与设计

The input impedance and the radiation pattern of a circumferential slot fed at the center by an open-ended feed line are analyzed. It is cut on a thin circular cylinder as an element of a mobile base station antenna. Galerkin's method of moments with delta-gap excitation almost succeeds in simulating the input impedance at the feed point and the radiation pattern. Model antennas have been designed in the 3 GHz band. The radiation patterns in the horizontal plane are shown; symmetrical patterns are obtained.<>

Design of the Iridium phased array antennas 铱相控阵天线的设计

In order to achieve the 48 cell coverage in the Iridium program, as well as the desired high-quality data links between the users and the satellite, a high-efficiency, linear, lightweight, space-qualified phased array panel must be designed that can simultaneously transmit or receive 16 beams. The aperture illuminations of the Main Mission Antenna (MMA) panels have been synthesized so as to be consistent with a Butler-matrix-type beamformer that simultaneously generates the 16 required shaped beams with minimal losses. In the unified array design that is considered, the RF T/R (transmit/receive) module, mechanical, thermal, and control systems are synergistically optimized so as to allow the antenna to meet its requirement in a space environment.<>

Terrain compensation for OTHR receive array 地形补偿的其他接收阵列

The performance of an OTHR array situated on irregular terrain is presented, and the compensation of the effects of terrain irregularities is illustrated. The model used evaluates the effects of long correlation intervals on the received pattern by taking into account both the vertical terrain deformation and the effects of local ground tilt on the element pattern. A typical no-error pattern exhibits a -40 dB Taylor weighted sidelobe structure. Without beamformer compensation for terrain irregularities, the sidelobe performance is degraded to the -25 dB level. Using a beamformer compensation optimized for 10/spl deg/ elevation at azimuth boresight, the sidelobe performance is nearly fully recovered. The results obtained are very promising, and suggest that future OTH receive antenna ground preparation costs can be significantly reduced.<>

Near field analysis of a perfectly conducting slotted elliptic cylinder 完全导电开槽椭圆圆柱的近场分析

Near-field analysis of a perfectly conducting slotted cylinder excited by an electric line source or a z-polarized incident wave is considered. The problem is reduced to an integral equation in terms of the aperture field. The solution of the integral equation is carried out by expressing the aperture field in terms of a Fourier series expansion with unknown coefficients. Then Galerkin's technique is used to solve for the unknown aperture field coefficients.<>

The authors present the design and performance of a new module of spatial power combiners which consists of four symmetrical slot coupled patch radiators and four MESFET negative resistance elements. Such circuits are suitable for use in millimeter-wave systems as well as at microwave frequencies. Prototype circuits showed 20.44 mW with about 16% DC to RF efficiency at 8.7 GHz.<>

Effect of random positioning errors on the input impedance of an infinite array of printed dipoles 随机定位误差对印刷偶极子无限阵列输入阻抗的影响

In order to to study the effect of random positioning errors in an infinite array an impedance analysis must be done. The authors present the first solution and data for the expected value of the input impedance of an infinite array of printed dipoles on a dielectric substrate. Theory is introduced, and results for several cases are presented and discussed. It is shown how scan blindness can be removed from an infinite array of printed dipoles by randomizing the positions of the elements in the E-plane and by analyzing the structure by an impedance approach.<>

Accurate determination of frequency and angle of arrival from undersampled signals 从欠采样信号中精确确定频率和到达角度

The problem of determining the frequency and angle of arrival of an unknown signal that is undersampled when incident on a linear array is considered. A simple technique to deal with the ambiguities arising from undersampling is coupled with classic monopulse techniques to provide excellent accuracy, even in the presence of noise. Excellent results were obtained in a computer simulation. Sampling was done at 465.45 MHz and 568.88 MHz with a 512 point discrete Fourier transform.<>

Three packaging technologies are introduced. An MCF (multilayer ceramic frame) single-cavity package shows high performance to Ka-band.
