Introduction:  Dental caries is a multifactorial disease that affects people of all ages due to a complex interplay between genetic and environmental variables. The significance of genetics in an individual's vulnerability to caries has recently been explored in scientific literature. One such inherited genetic characteristic is blood group. The relationship between blood type, lifestyle, and dental caries may shed light on the above idea. Aim:  To explore into blood type as a possible risk factor for the development of dental caries. Material   And   Methods:  Blood samples from 39 people of the index ages (5, 12, 15, 35-44, and 60-74 years) were taken, and blood grouping was done before oral screening to determine the DMFT index. A self-administered questionnaire was used to conduct a complete diet analysis. SPSS software was used to do statistical analysis on the data. Results:   In different age groups, there was a strong link between different blood types, DMFT index, and diet. Conclusion:  The current study's results demonstrate that genetic and epigenetic variables play a significant influence in the development of dental caries. As a result, blood groups can be utilised to detect if a certain diet is associated with the development of dental caries. Keywords: Dental caries, ABO antigens, Blood group, DMFT index, risk predictors

Introduction: Cervical cancer continues to be a major public health problem affecting middle-aged women, particularly in less-resourced countries. External beam radiation therapy along with intra cavitary insertion has long been the treatment of choice for locally advanced (IIB-IVA) cervical cancer, but long-term successes are limited in terms of pelvic recurrence or distant metastasis. Outcome of low dose daily versus weekly versus three weekly Cisplatin concurrent with External beam radiotherapy in locally advanced cervical carcinoma was compared in this study. Methods: A prospective cross sectional study was carried out in J K cancer institute, Kanpur. Total 60 patients of cervical cancer were randomized into 3 arms. Arm I, Arm II and Arm III received External beam radiotherapy concurrent with either daily (8mg/m2), weekly (40 mg/m2) or three weekly (100 mg/m2) Cisplatin respectively. External beam radiotherapy was given with a dose of 50 Gy / 25 # / 5 week / 2 field or 4 field. Patients were evaluated weekly during treatment and afterwards up to 1year. Results: Most of the patients were from fourth and fifth decade, low socioeconomic strata and illiterate. Majority of the cases belong to squamous cell carcinoma (96.6%) and stage III B (55%). Objective response in arm I was 80.0%, in arm II was 75.0% and in arm III was 60.0% respectively. Statistically significant difference was noted between arm III and Arm I (80%Vs60% p<0.05). Results were better in arm I as compare to arm II but not statistically significant. (80%Vs75% P>0.05) Conclusions: This study showed that response was better in ARM I as compared to ARM III and best results was seen with Cisplatin concurrent daily with radiation. Keywords: Cisplatin, concurrent chemotherapy, daily, weekly, three weekly, carcinoma cervix

Background: CTKUB is a commonly performed scan as the gold standard investigation for renal stone disease. However, CT exposes a patient to ionising radiation. The radiation delivered to the patient increases in importance given the young demographic and often need for interval imaging. To minimise exposure, low dose scanning techniques are employed, and image field is reduced to only scan relevant anatomy. A common starting point for CT KUB is often the T10 vertebra however many scans are performed starting at higher levels exposing the patient to unnecessary radiation. Methods: A list of 100 patients who underwent CTKUB for renal stone disease at a teaching hospital was created. Following exclusion of duplicates and application of exclusion criteria 51 scans were included. Each scan was individually analysed to assess vertebral level of upper limit of kidney and vertebral level at which the CTKUB scan was started. Percentage overshoot was calculated as number of axial slices cranial to the upper aspect of the kidneys. Results: 22% of scans included in the study were started proximal to T10, these scans had a mean percentage overshoot of 19.6% exposing the patient to excess radiation. Of the CT KUB scans started at T10 or below mean percentage overshoot was improved to 8.6%. At the level of T10 all analysed scans would avoid undershooting. Conclusions: Implementation of a CTKUB imaging protocol which starts at T10 will minimise ionising radiation exposure whilst allowing visualisation of the complete renal tract. Keywords: CT KUB, Radiation safety, Minimise radiation

Background: Over 30 million people living in Africa suffer from depression which also contributes to global burden of diseases with a steady rise in prevalence, affecting all groups, including pregnant women. Factors which account for the psychological effects of pregnancy on mothers include; maternal age, planned pregnancy, previous experiences, spouse support, and partner violence. These risk factors may lead to antenatal depression which endangers the mother and the pregnancy. To safeguard mothers from depression during pregnancy, these factors need to be determined. Objective: To determine the prevalence, risk factors and predictors of antenatal depression. Methods: Pregnant women attending antenatal care, who met the study inclusion criteria were interviewed and screened for depression using the risk factor and socio-demographic questionnaire and Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Data obtained was fed into the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 23.0 and cross-tabulation of the relevant variables obtained using chi-squared and t-test. P values <0.05 were statistically significant. Results: Of 500 respondents, 158 (31.6%) had depression. Risk factors of cohabiting with spouse, lack of financial support from spouse, fight with spouse, threat to life, history of still birth and child health challenges were determined, four of which turned out to be predictors of antenatal depression (AD). Conclusion: The high prevalence of 31.6% of antenatal depression calls for a review of obstetrics practice to include screening and diagnosis for antenatal depression. Keywords: Antenatal depression, socio-demographic factors, EPDS, Obstetrics risk factors, social support, predictors.

Background: The metabolic syndrome is defined by the clustering of risk factors that predisposes people to diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD. MetS had a high (58%) prevalence of dyslipidemia, and increasing age, greater BMI, central obesity, hypertension, and high blood glucose levels have been found as independent predictors of dyslipidemia. Aim of the Work: This study aimed to role of lipid profile and fasting blood glucose in metabolic syndrome. Subjects and Methods: The research was carried out at the Index Medical College and Research Center in Indore, in the Department of Biochemistry. A total of 120 people with metabolic syndrome and 120 healthy controls were included in the study. A blood sample was taken from the anticubital vein and centrifuged to obtain serum, which was then evaluated for lipid profile and FBS levels quantitatively. Result and Conclusion: Present study suggested that the FBG is the most critical factor in MS, and all aspects of the lipid profile have significant relationships with MS. Keywords: Metabolic syndrome, fasting blood glucose

When first introduced, the term Minimal Intervention Dentistry (MID) referred to use of smaller and more conservative cavity preparations. Today, concept is much broader, being a philosophy of care related to risk assessment of individual patients, early detection of oral disease, targeted preventively orientated strategies and limited surgical intervention appropriate to level of disease1-3. “Extension for prevention” which was previously taught has been changed to “Prevention of extension”. Though concept of MID has been stressed upon for more than a decade, but its uptake has not been global. MID should be the standard of care in modern dentistry, as it avoids over-zealous restorative interventions as well as supervised neglect. As dental profession worldwide grapples with challenges of dealing with high rates of dental diseases in socially disadvantaged and medically compromised patients, it is even more important to incorporate these concepts into practice to deal with challenge of management of oral diseases. This review focuses on the concept and techniques of minimal invasive dentistry as an emerging trend in paediatric dentistry. Keywords: paediatric dentistry, MID
