Spatio-temporal distribution of Aedes aegypti oviposition activity in Kano metropolis north-Western Nigeria 尼日利亚西北部卡诺市埃及伊蚊产卵活动的时空分布

Aedes aegypti are vectors of serious and debilitating arbovirus diseases that affect humans as well as domestic and wild animals worldwide. Center for Disease Control oviposition traps were used (January - December, 2019) to monitor oviposition in four sampling entities within Kano Metropolis. No oviposition activity was observed throughout the dry season with 0.00% Ovitrap Index across all locations. Oviposition activity of the mosquitoes was moderately distributed (50%) during the rainy season. Gardens had the highest oviposition activity during the rainy season (OI = 50±35%, p>0.05). The viral infection known as dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) continues to be a problem for public health. In the Sri Sathya Sai district's Dharmavaram revenue subdivision, the highest case fatality rate (CFR) was noted. Children who have dengue fever have an increased risk of dying. The increasing frequency of dengue fever necessitates research into three risk factors: the environment, mosquitoes as the vector, and humans as the host. This study uses a cross-sectional study design and a descriptive methodology. From August to December 2021, information was gathered using primary data in the form of questionnaires. 90 children (48 with dengue and 42 control group) under the age of 18 who met the criteria in the working area's Dharmavaram revenue subdivision served as the study's subjects. The univariate analysis of the data was done using a frequency distribution table. The results of this study show that male children between the ages of 10 and 15 are the ones who experience dengue fever in the workplace the most. Based on other host factors, children who are active outside the home and seldom use repellent are more likely to contract dengue fever. Dengue fever patients have a habit of draining the landfill once every two weeks, never closing the landfill, and never recycling used items, according to Mosquito Nest Eradication Behaviours. Most kids with dengue fever hardly ever hang their clothes up in their rooms or use abatements. Residents of the Dharmavaram revenue subdivision were more likely to contract dengue if they used insect repellent, hung their garments outside, or had larvae in their water containers. The most common serotype of dengue virus is DEN-1. Environmental management encourages intervention against the Aedes aegypti mosquito, a carrier of dengue fever, as well as other environmental changes. We believe that the outcomes of this study will shed light on vulnerable populations and serve as a platform for future research.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral infection among the 20 prioritized Neglected Tropical Diseases recognised by the World Health Organization (WHO). Its incidence has increased globally and in India in the past two decades. Kerala, India, reported its first case of dengue fever in 1997, and the incidence has gradually increased since then, making dengue fever an endemic and serious health problem. This study is a descriptive study of the incidence and mortality of dengue fever in Kerala from its first report till the present. The study will use exploratory data analysis, time series analysis, and predictive analysis to understand the scale of dengue fever spread over time and near future.

Comparative study on the effect of the insecticide, Phorate on the COI (Cytochrome oxidase subunit 1) of Eudrilus eugeniae and Aedes aegypti using in silico techniques 有机磷杀虫剂对埃及伊蚊与原生拟蚊细胞色素氧化酶亚基1影响的比较研究

The most crucial element of the global plan for managing diseases linked to mosquitoes is vector control, of which insecticide treatment is a crucial component. Insecticides affect an insect's nervous system, reproduction, or immune system. On the other hand, insecticides have a detrimental effect on soil microbial activity and counts, which is concerning for the environment. It also affects various other organisms such as earthworms present in the soil it. In this in silico research study, we carry out a comparative study on the effect of the insecticide, Phorate on the earthworm sps, Eudrilus eugeniae and on the mosquito, Aedes aegypti. Eudrilus eugeniae is native to tropical West Africa and is currently common in warm climates where it is grown in vermicompost. Many diseases like dengue, dengue hemorrhagic fever, dengue shock syndrome, yellow fever, chikungunya, and Zika virus infection are mostly spread by the mosquito Aedes aegypti. Primarily, we investigate the mechanism by which Phorate affects the earthworms in the soil and the mosquito. The protein sequence of Cytochrome oxidase, present in the extracellular region of Eudrilus eugeniae and Aedes aegypti, is introduced to Phorate using advanced automated molecular drug docking techniques. The results are validated in 3D view using advanced molecular visualization tools. The results obtained from our study shows that the 3D structure of Cytochrome oxidase subunit 1 binds with Phorate in the hydrophobic regions. Based on the binding affinity scores and 3D H-bond interactions between Cytochrome oxidase subunit 1 and Phorate, the level of inhibition between the protein and the receptor is analysed. The overall results conclude that the accumulation of Phorate in the soil leads to its binding with the extracellular region of the earthworm, Eudrilus eugeniae bringing about the degeneration of the species which is detrimental to soil fertility, whereas the effect of Phorate on Aedes aegypti is beneficial in controlling the species for the benefit of mankind.

Efficacy of some plant wastes and cigarette filter residues as alternative agents for controlling Culex pipiens (Diptera: Culicidae) 部分植物废弃物和烟滤渣替代药剂防治库蚊的效果研究(双翅目:库蚊科)

Mosquito-borne diseases are among the most common public health problems in the world, especially in developing countries. The idea of evaluating certain agricultural and industrial waste products of natural origin as larvicidal agents against mosquitoes is both good and unconventional. Four agricultural waste extracts (Apricot kernels, Lipton packet tea, date palm kernels, and burnt rice straw) and one industrial waste extract (cigarette filters) were evaluated as insecticides against 3 rd the larval instar of Culex pipiens In vitro and their effect on egg laying and hatching rates. According to the current result, all plant and industrial waste extracts had larvicidal activity, and cigarette filters (100% mortality) and Lipton packet tea (97%) were most effective, followed by date palm kernels (90%), burnt rice straw (84%), and apricot kernel extracts (79%), whereas the LC 50 values were 528.14, 582.42, 815.5, 976, and 1080.50 ppm with 2000 ppm after 24 h, respectively. Data showed that cigarette filters and apricot kernel extracts were more attractive media for female oviposition, and cigarette filters and date palm kernel extracts had significant effects on the decreasing hatching rate (12.42% and 24.58%). Cigarette filters, Lipton packet tea, and date palm kernels can be used safely and efficiently to control Cx. pipiens larvae.

The idea of evaluating certain agricultural and industrial waste products of natural origin as larvicidal agents against mosquitoes is both good and unconventional. Four agricultural waste extracts (Apricot kernels, Lipton packet tea, date palm kernels, and burnt rice straw) and one industrial waste extract (cigarette filters) were evaluated as insecticides against 3 rd the larval instar of Culex pipiens In vitro and their effect on egg laying and hatching rates. According to the current result, all plant and industrial waste extracts had larvicidal activity, and cigarette filters (100% mortality) and Lipton packet tea (97%) were most effective, followed by date palm kernels (90%), burnt rice straw (84%), and apricot kernel extracts (79%), whereas the LC 50 values were 528.14, 582.42, 815.5, 976, and 1080.50 ppm with 2000 ppm after 24 h, respectively. Data showed that cigarette filters and apricot kernel extracts were more attractive media for female oviposition, and cigarette filters and date palm kernel extracts had significant effects on the decreasing hatching rate (12.42% and 24.58%). Association of Culicidae larvae and effectiveness of 0.4% S-methoprene Mosquilarv in reducing Aedes density in southern Benin 贝宁南部库蚊幼虫与0.4% s -甲基戊二烯蚊对伊蚊密度的影响

This study evaluated the efficacy of Mosquilarv containing 0.4% S-methoprene in reducing population densities of Aedes spp. Oviposition traps treated with 1.5 mg Mosquilarv granules containing 0.4% S-methoprene and untreated controls were placed in houses where natural breeding sites of Aedes spp. are often found traps were collected 7 days later, eggs were counted and kept under rearing conditions until complete emergence of larvae in control traps and death or emergence of larvae in traps treated with 0.4% Mosquilarv. Our results show a predominance of the Aedes vector species collected in Porto-Novo and Ifangni. Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus share the same ovitraps. The results revealed a considerable reduction in emergence in treated ovitraps, ranging from 64.42% to 93.53%. Mosquilarv with 0.4% S-methoprene showed interesting results in reducing the density of Aedes spp vectors and could be considered as a response and prevention tool for possible dengue epidemics in Benin
