: CASAS-OLEA, Matilde. The Episode of the Sleep of the Dragon Slayer Hero in Byzantine-Slavic Hagiographic Texts. One of the most widespread representations of the warrior saint in popular Byzantine-Slavic religiosity is the dragon slayer, represented by Saints Theodor and George. This image undergoes continuous resemantization and contextual adaptation, captured in creative expressions containing persistent and innovative but identifiable elements. This study analyses dragon slayer tales in the hagiographic cycles of St Theodor and St George, which feature the preamble motif of the hero’s sleep. The objective was to examine the degree to which they gather the inherent narrative elements to the conventional motif and the contexts and sources in which they are shaped. It also analyses the testimony of the Christian epic, produced in popular tradition and rooted in orality.

: MIHALJEVIĆ, Ana – MIHALJEVIĆ, Milan. St. Jerome’s Homilies on Luke’s Gospel in Croatian Glagolitic Breviaries. Two St. Jerome’s homilies on pericopes from the Gospel according to Luke occur in Croatian Glagolitic breviaries. The homily on L 11.4, which was read on the third Sunday in Lent, has been preserved in 19, and the homily on L 16.1, which was read on the eighth Sunday after Pentecost, in 22 breviaries. In some breviaries, the text is shorter and divided into lections differently than in others. In the paper, we will compare the texts from all breviaries, determine the differences between them, and describe the language of both homilies. We will also compare the Church Slavonic text with its Latin original, analyse the translation techniques, and try to determine when the text has been translated from Latin into Church Slavonic. SUMMARY: ST. JEROME›S HOMILIES ON LUKE’S IN CROATIAN GLAGOLITIC BREVIARIES. The aim of this study is to analyse the translations of Jerome’s homilies on L 11.4 and L 16.1 in Croatian Glagolitic breviaries. The first homily has been preserved in 19 breviaries, and the second in 22 breviaries. Nine breviaries have a shorter version of the first homily and eleven breviaries have a shorter version of the second homily. The translation is the same in all codices. Textual differences between the breviaries are neither numerous nor significant. Stemmatological relations between the preserved texts are very complicated, since the redactions are mutually entangled. We can distinguish the northern group of codices from Krk (Vb 1 , Pad, Vb 2 and VO), characterised by the older redaction, from the typical representatives of the southern, more innovative group (Vat 5 , Mosk, and Pt). The transitional group (N 1 , Vat 10 , Dab, Brib, and N 2 ) sometimes has the older reading, sometimes the younger, and sometimes both readings. The errors in the oldest preserved text, from First Vrbnik Breviary (beginning of the 14th century), show that the texts have been copied from an older Glagolitic protograph. Both texts of St. Jerome’s homilies on Luke’s Gospel have been translated from Latin into Croatian Church Slavonic very faithfully. The homilies in younger breviaries follow the Latin original more closely. In some cases, the scribe had changed the original text, which mirrors the Latin original adjusting it to what he probably regarded as the Latin norm. The analysis of the translation technique shows that the translator mostly translated the Latin text following the usual translation norms. Boris and Gleb: Political and Theological Implications of Overcoming Violence Through Sacrifice in Kievan Rus 鲍里斯和格列布:基辅罗斯通过牺牲克服暴力的政治和神学含义

MALMENVALL, Simon. Boris and Gleb: Political and Theological Implications of Overcoming Violence Through Sacrifice in Kievan Rus’. In the East Slavic historical consciousness, the sacrifice of the first canonized Rus’ saints Boris and Gleb (died in 1015) came to be viewed as a reflection of the sacrifice of the Old Testament figure Abel and as a model of the imitation of Christ concerning the renouncement of secular power. The author of this article advocates the following thesis: the fact that the first canonized East Slavic saints came from the secular ruling elite testifies to the attempts of the Rus’ literati to stress the strong influence of recently adopted Christianity on politically important decisions in Kievan Rus’, which allegedly achieved its religious “maturity” within the context of salvation history through this. The existence of the martyrs among the secular ruling elite, however, cannot be viewed as a specific element of East Slavic medieval culture alone because this type of sainthood was, despite local differences, present in recently Christianized lands on the northern and eastern periphery of Europe at the time.

LAMPROU, Soultana – ZOZUĽAKOVÁ, Viera. The Abolition of Ethnic, Racial, or Cultural Distinctions in the Apostle Paul. Indicative Patristic Approach. The study focuses on Paul’s Epistle to the Galatians 2:28, wherein Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles, proceeds to a declaration of human rights by stating: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus”. Patristic interpretations regarding this position of the Apostle Paul are cited, according to which Paul’s basis is Christocentric, and is a criterion for the transposition and dissolution of each type of distinction, and the change of human relationships is the transformation of the world into the Church of Christ. Moreover, it is also emphasised and presented, in Christian literature, while the phenomenon of each type of distinction is engaged pastorally in the works of the Fathers and ecclesiastical authors, each is considered from a different perspective and approached pastorally.

Patristic interpretations regarding this position of the Apostle Paul are cited, according to which Paul’s basis is Christocentric, and is a criterion for the transposition and dissolution of each type of distinction, and the change of human relationships is the transformation of the world into the Church of Christ. Moreover, it is also emphasised and presented, in Christian literature, while the phenomenon of each type of distinction is engaged pastorally in the works of the Fathers and ecclesiastical authors, each is considered from a different perspective and approached pastorally.","PeriodicalId":142049,"journal":{"name":"Konštantínove listy/Constantine's Letters","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127441940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

: PAPADOPOULOU, Panagiota. The Term ἌΔΥΤΟΝ in the Greek Religious Lexicon From the 8th Century BC to the 15th Century AD. In the long history of Greek reality, religiosity underwent substantial changes in its approaches and beliefs, a fact that also involved the need for linguistic adaptations in order to express new concepts and requirements of worship. Monolectic names or periphrasis influenced by the Greek philosophical tradition as a result of its use throughout the history of the Greek letters appear until today without losing their religious concept. For instance, the monolectic name ἄδυτον which appeared in the 8th century BC is being used until now.
