Transmigration of impacted mandibular cuspid is a rare finding. A cuspid is classified as “transmigrated” when more than half of its length has passed the mid-line. 13 cases of transmigration of impacted mandibular cuspids are presented, 3 of which occurred in pairs, raising the total number of teeth to 16. Radiographs showed positions ranging from a vertical impaction, to a cuspid having crossed the mid-line completely, reaching the first molar area of the opposite side.

Facial nerve palsy associated with traumatic injury in the temporomandibular joint area is a rather infrequent condition. Fracture of the glenoid fossa is a very rare condition, especially when it is not combined with displacement of the condyle in the middle cranial fossa. We are reporting the combination of these 2 conditions in a victim of a road traffic accident.

The article presents a case of central odontogenic fibroma occuring in the maxilla. The literature is reviewed, in the belief that a discussion of the controversial issues surrounding this neoplasm, its treatment and follow-up information, is waranted, due to the small number of cases (13) of this tumor that have been recognised and reported up to the present.

A rare case of a papillary cystadenoma, mucous-cell type, in the lower lip of a 73-year-old male is presented. The tumor consisted of many small cysts with multiple papillary projections into their cystic spaces. The projections and cyst walls were lined with pseudostratified mucous-cell epithelium. Clinically and histologically, the present papillary cystadenoma was considered as a true tumor originated from the ducts of minor salivary glands. There exists only one case report of a papillary cystadenoma with adequate description and photomicrographs in the Japanese dental literature.

A retrospective analysis of 88 consecutive pediatric patients who underwent surgical correction of their dentofacial deformities is presented. There were twice as many female as male patients and the most common deformities were of the skeletal Class II type. The LeFort I osteotomy was the most frequently performed operation. The effect of controlled hypotensive anesthesia on the duration of both anesthesia and surgery, estimated blood loss and incidence of transfusion is discussed. Surgery for the correction of dentofacial deformities can be performed on children and adolescent patients with little morbidity and few complications.

A carcinoma arose in the buccal mucosa of a 71-year-old woman suffering from several systemic diseases, and on extensive medication. The buccal mucosa had been affected by oral lichen planus for more than 9 years. The possibility of malignant transformation of oral lichen planus is discussed.

The aim of the study was to investigate the prevalence of previous clinical hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and the prevalence of HBV markers in Danish oral surgeons, to estimate the annual HBV infection rate, and to assess whether the use of hepatitis B vaccine is to be recommended for this group. The total study population comprised 40 individuals occupied with oral surgery. A questionnaire and a request for a blood sample were sent to all dentists employed at the Danish hospitals and the departments of oral surgery at the 2 dental colleges. 36 (90%) answered a questionnaire, whereas only 27 (67.5%) had a blood sample taken for analysis of hepatitis surface antigen (HBsAg), antibody to HBsAg (anti-HBs), antibody to hepatitis core antigen (anti-HBcAg), antibody to hepatitis A virus (anti-HAV), and serumtransaminases. One had been clinically ill from HBV infection and was positive for anti-HBs. The prevalence rate was thus 3.7% (95% confidence limits: 0.1%–19.0%) and the annual attack rate was 0.3%. The prevalence was not higher than among Danish dentists in general, and they are not considered a high-risk group in Denmark. Even with due statistical consideration to the present small sample, Danish oral surgeons do not seem to belong to a high-risk group like other surgeons in different medical specialities. It is concluded that the use of a hepatitis B vaccine is not recommended at present for this group of dentists.

In the literature, posterior dislocation of the disc of the temporomandibular joint is seldom mentioned. Although this dislocation occurs rarely, it is important to differentiate this clinical entity from other joint disturbances. After a review of the literature, 3 patients are presented. Repositioning of the disc is succeeded in all 3 cases by manipulation. There were no signs of osteoarthrotic changes on follow-up.
