Achieving justice and protection of violated rights and interests had long been part of private sphere of injured individuals. As a means of compensation, blood revenge was available to them which often lead to the destruction of entire groups and families. Therefore, in Europe during the XII and XIII century, along with the establishment of the first states, work was done on the establishment of the public prosecutor's office as an instrument of state intervention in the criminal sphere and also restriction of the monopoly of coercion. In most European countries, the public prosecutor initially had the authority to represent state interests in court proceedings of public interest, so that over time the scope of work expanded to prosecution of perpetrators. This paper, based on comparative and textual method, will discuss the development of public prosecution in Europe within following Western European legal systems: Common Law, Romanian, German and Scandinavian from Middle Ages until modern era.

After defending her doctoral dissertation at Uppsala University in 2016, Dr. Iva Lučić edited the book In the Name of the Nation, translated from German into Bosnian by professor Sulejman Bosto. The book presents a comprehensive historical research of the genesis of the Muslim nation recognition in socialist Yugoslavia during the period 1956–1971. Based on the study of archival material in the institutions of the Yugoslav Federation and the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as an insight into the reference literature, Dr. Iva Lučić scientifically elaborates one of the crucial historical questions for the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s statehood. It is about the recognition of the Muslim’s national subjectivity, which during the several decades course led to a positive historical outcome at the Central Committee of the League of Communists of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 17th Session and at the implementation of the Yugoslav population census of 1971. In the book’s final part, Dr. Iva Lučić does a comprehensive historical and sociological-political synthesis of the wholeness of her research. The scientific findings released by Dr. Iva Lučić represent a contribution to the study and establishment of contemporary political history of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 20th century.

The author analyzes two cases before the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), specific to the guilty plea of the accused. Stevan Todorovic, the chief of police in Bosanski Samac, is the highest-ranking official in the municipality who has pleaded guilty and expressed remorse for his own responsibility and the crimes committed. Damir Došen, a shift guard at the Keraterm camp in Prijedor, did the same. Were the acknowledgments of these two convicted war criminals an expression of true remorse or a way to avoid higher prison sentences by reaching an agreement with the court prosecutor's office? The answer to this question is suggested by the analysis of the behavior of Todorović and Došen after serving his prison sentence.

The problems of modern societies affect all parts of educational systems, and the particular impact on higher education. Given many issues, problems and challenges higher education is facing nowadays, the paper discusses the problems of the current and deeper crisis of higher education and gives an overview of different critical views on the role of university. In this thematic context, the most important crises of the higher education system in Bosnia and Herzegovina are being considered. For sociological theory of education, it is crucial to study the social factors and the influence of the social environment on education. Thus, the problems within the higher education sphere are viewed through the prism of the political, economic, sociocultural and moral grounds of the Bosnian society.

The United States of America has a specific model of political system. It differs from other political systems due to its consistent separation of powers with a strong role of the president, and due to a stable traditional two-party political system. In order to understand the prospects for the development of new democracies, it is necessary to study the American presidential system and to look into experiences of American constitutionalism. The intention of this paper is not just to present the system to be implemented and then to expect desirable effects, but to understand that this successful model is the result of a long lasting fight for the respect of the Constitution and rights. This has been predicted and guided by the founders of the American Constitution, for whose outcome the most important was the democratic spirit of American man and American society. The basic method used in writing the paper is the historical method. In the study, the comparative method or the comparative law method was used and was of immeasurable importance. The application of the sociological method was also very important while writing the paper. The conclusions were presented emphasizing that the existing political institutions in the USA today are in direct connection with the institutions that preceded them in their long historical development, which testifies to their exceptional stability, because there are no essential changes in their physiognomy.

The paper presents the subject English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in terms of its conceptualization, and indicates a certain fluidity of this concept by defining both its variable and absolute characteristics owing to which ESP acquired its promising position in the field of TESL/TEFL. It is in these characteristics of the ESP approach that its purposeful nature is reflected, which makes it the most fruitful approach to teaching English in higher education. As an approach to teaching English on the basis of the special requirements of the future profession, ESP goes beyond a purely structural and linguistic approach to the text in an effort to enable students to better understand the social and contextual characteristics of different genres, their structural elements and ways in which they achieve their goals. There are many indications that the future development of English for Specific Purposes will head for even greater diversity, contextuality, complexity and critique.
