What is the purpose of universities - education or job training? What should be our priority - competences for the 21st century or finding a job within a year after graduating? The future is unpredictable and today’s actions are not necessarily good, but the worst thing to happen would be doing nothing. The survival and development of university depends on our vision of who are the generations to come, what we will teach them, how we will develop the curricula and how far we will succeed in moving away from linear careers as a Procrustean bed, punishing and forcing us to believe that what we have is the only thing possible if deviations from the prescribed norm happen or if one attempts spurring development. On the other hand, the context in which education takes place is constantly changing, and today’s careers, defined as a collection of all experiences and changes in values and attitudes (not advancement in the workplace) are changing their forms just like Proteus. Therefore, the important question is how to reject the Procrustean bed and accept the concept of a protean career as a guide in the development of higher education? The development of new study programs and the revision of existing ones should be guided by the following postulates: internationalization, interdisciplinarity, equality in access and adaptation to the needs of people who need to build their careers in the next dozen years. Innovative study programs should offer: experiences that will be attractive to students from all over the world, a holistic approach to the learning experience and multiperspective, equality in access to all interested parties at every moment of their lives, and flexibility that will allow the student to have his own pace of learning. Some examples of such programs are dual studies, short cycles, combined studies and recognition of prior learning. The University of Sarajevo is a participant in two ERASMUS+ projects aimed at the development of dual studies and short-cycle programs with the aim of increasing access to education and adapting to the needs of students and employers, which directly support the principles of a protean career.

The primary goal of this paper is to examine the potential possibilities of applied theater in the social community in BiH. Applied theater projects can create a range of impacts: moments of happiness, a growing sense of recognition and emotional well-being to increased awareness of the social situation in the community. Applied theater is aimed at an individual who is not a theater professional of all ages, but is led by professionals, because, using the basic features of acting / drama studied at the Academy of Performing Arts, such as: action, situation, character, conflicted the relationship helps to identify participants with a focused problem of a specific target group and leads to communication about the problem and playing different potential solutions to the conflict. Applied theater is an interactive theatrical form that seeks an engaged spectator, not a passive observer, and deinstitutionalizes theater and leads to an audience that is not primarily theatrical. Forms of applied theater that are used experimentally and occasionally in pedagogical and educational work in BiH are mostly supported by the non-governmental sector, but there is no strategic engagement and development of professional academic staff, graduates, directors, playwrights and orchestrations with other university units. The paper will also present different forms / types / styles of applied theater, as well as documentary and documentary character and the possibility of different aesthetics, but also the synergy between forms and methodologies. The paper will analyze practical experiences and suggest platforms for scientific research and artistic research dedicated to drama as therapy as a dynamic force aimed at correcting social change.

Open science includes open access to publications, research data and open educational content, open science redefines the whole process of scientific communication by encouraging dialogue, open review, open sources and tools. Demanding processes of digital transformation of scientific communication require significant support of academic libraries in the processes of advocacy and implementation of open science. Academic libraries in this context, and among other things, need to be recognized as indispensable partners in various open access initiatives at higher education institutions. In this regard, the aim of this research is to establish the specifics and current trends of e-publishing at the University of Sarajevo (UNSA), collect data on active open access journals published by UNSA organizational units, by website content analysis method, and in conclusion to address the benefits of cooperation with libraries of scientific institutions in planning the publishing of scientific journals in open access, as a segment of open science.

The aim of this paper is to present the Information System on Research Activity in Bosnia and Herzegovina - E-CRIS.BH, and the total number of registered researchers, research organizations, departments and projects, but also the number of bibliographic records to which the typology of documents/works has been assigned within the mutual COBISS.BH database. E-CRIS.BH is an information system that represents an electronic database of researchers, research organizations, research departments and research projects. It is an information system on research activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which originated from the Register of Scientific Institutions, Scientific Staff, Scientific and Research Projects and Infrastructure Investments in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Register of Scientific Institutions, Scientific Staff, Scientific and Research Projects and Infrastructure Investments in Canton of Sarajevo. The Register of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is conceived as an umbrella system and the registers of the canton as its subsystems. The project was implemented by the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The connection of E-CRIS.BH with the bibliographic database of COBISS.BH provides insight into the bibliographies of researchers, which are an integral part of every scientific work, a condition for synthesizing knowledge and data that lead to the required scientific results. The COBISS users have the opportunity to record researchers, research organizations, departments and projects necessary for the creation of a bibliography of researchers and organizations within their national library information systems in the COBISS.Net network (regional network). The results show that 2.230 researchers and 86 organizations have been registered so far in E-CRIS.BH. A total of 73.657 bibliographic records have been created so far within the COBISS.BH common database, which a typology of documents/works has been assigned to. In the first group – articles and other components – a typology was determined for 21.122 bibliographic records. In the second group – monographs and other completed works - a typology was determined for 52.372 bibliographic records. In the third group – performed works - (events) – a typology was determined for 163 bibliographic records.

This paper presents the electronic publishing development at the University of Sarajevo through two projects, the development of the publishing portal of the Faculty of Philosophy and the implementation of the Open Journal System for the Social Issues Journal Pregled, published by the University of Sarajevo. As a technical solution, the electronic publishing portal of the Faculty of Philosophy combines Open Monograph Press and Open Journal System. Till now, three journals and more than sixty books published by the Faculty are available through this portal. In the previous period we completed the first phase of archiving the magazine Pregled with 1000 articles, accompanied by relevant metadata. This paper aims to present how librarians can contribute to the development of electronic publishing and open access. In the paper, we will also present plans for the next period that includes the creation of the Scientific Serial Publications Register of the University of Sarajevo.

At the end of 2018, Gazi Husrev-bey library in Sarajevo and the renowned institution for historical research in the Republic of Turkey, Türk Tarih Kurumu, signed a protocol on cooperation on the project of preparing and publishing the regesta of the voluminous manuscript Tārīẖ-i Enveri, History of Muhamed Enveri Kadić. For the next four years, both of these institutions, which kept the first copies of the History, undertook a series of activities in order to realize the signed project. On January 13, 2023, the Gazi Husrev-bey library marked its 486th anniversary by promoting the planned and completed part of the work. The fact that the name and work of this special archivist, copyist, poet, epigrapher and bibliophile was known in detail by a limited number of people outside the fields of Orientalism, Ottoman studies and history, imposes the need to present, in a concise form, his character, work and visions.

This article discusses the status of sociology as a scientific discipline in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the context of its applicability and competitiveness of sociologists in the labor market. This question has been particularly elaborated by American sociologists, but also by other sociologists in their empirical research and theoretical works. Theoretical reviews of Bosnian authors regarding the place and role of sociology in our society have also been presented. For the purposes of this article, the educational programs in the field of sociology in all public universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina have been analyzed and it was found that the study of sociology can be studied at only six out of nine public universities, and the knowledge and competencies acquired during studies enable graduates sociology to be engage in theoretical sociology (scientific work), applied sociology (project management and public policy analysis) or teaching (in high schools or colleges). By analyzing the vacancies published on the Mojposao.ba portal, in the categories of "socioal services/non-profit organizations", "education" and "public service", we conclude that the knowledge and competencies acquired through education in sociology are mostly required in vacancies published by NGOs and international organizations and least in the education sector. The concluding remarks provide recommendations in order to provoke a discussion on the modalities of improving the status of sociology as a scientific discipline, and the educational profile of sociologists in the context of his position in the labor market in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Educational institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina should be among the most important institutional bearers of the process of socialization of children and youth, as well as the creation and transfer of socially valued knowledge and skills. Gender responsible education is especially important for the personal development and quality of life of every person, because it is a significant factor in democratization, economic development, prosperity and sustainability of any society. This article addresses the issue of gender discrimination Gender in the education system, which can be particularly dangerous because it directly supports stereotypes about inequality between girls and boys, men and women. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is necessary to create and implement proper laws to improve the overall education system, which will truly take care of the balance of existing gender hierarchies through changes in education and textbook policies.

Conspiracy theories have always existed, and (some) people have always believed in them. However, due to the expansion of contemporary media and information technologies, as well as social networks becoming primary platforms of information, the issue of how conspiracy beliefs affect daily lives has become popular again. Current societal, political and health crises have sparked global research interest in the topic. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become obvious how significant these beliefs are in determining health behavior and adhering to preventive anti-epidemic measures. Therefore, it is of immense importance, both theoretical and practical, to approach the characteristics of this phenomenon scientifically. This article analyzes psychological and social factors of conspiracy beliefs. Through the prism of epistemic, existential and social needs, the article tries to explain what pushes individuals toward the conspiracy theories. It also discusses individual and personality differences as the underpinning basis for susceptibility to conspiracy beliefs. A special focus is put on universal principles of cognitive functioning that boost conspiracy beliefs (confirmation bias, saving cognitive resources, cognitive closure, effect of illusory truth, etc.) Considering their exceptional societal importance, the author puts a special focus on the effects of conspiracy theories on health relevant behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the lack of a clear theoretical framework in this recently emerging research field, the author reflects on existing and potential prevention and intervention tools belonging to social-psychological, health and communication strategies. The importance of the media and information literacy as a means to improve resilience to misinformation is also discussed.
