Change in Alkaline Phosphatase Activity Induced By Tetracycline in Freshwater Mussel, Parreysia cylindrica (Annandale and Prashad) 四环素诱导淡水贻贝碱性磷酸酶活性的变化

Alkaline phosphatase is a non-specific hydrolase enzyme. This enzyme is responsible for transphosphorylation and has an important role in the general energetics of an organism. Internal milieu of the organ can be assessed by alteration in the enzymatic activity as it is a tool to indicate the stress offered by various chemical compounds. In the present study, Alkaline phosphatase activity is measured in a fresh water mussel Parreysia cylindrica after acute and chronic exposure to tetracycline, one of the broad spectrum antibiotics. P. cylindrica are exposed to LC50/2 (166.54PPM) for acute treatment upto 96 hrs and LC50/10 (33.30 PPM) for chronic treatment upto 21 days in gills, mantle and digestive gland. In tetracycline exposed bivalves, alkaline phosphatase activity was greatly increased in gills (+26.37%) than mantle and digestive gland while after chronic exposure it showed 25.32% increase upto 14 th day and then reached to 16.55% increase upto 21 st day in gills over control. The digestive gland showed least increase in alkaline phosphatase activity.

Phytochemical Analysis of Some Selected Plants and Families in the University Botanic Garden Of Maseno, Kenya. 肯尼亚马塞诺大学植物园部分植物和科的植物化学分析。

There has scarcely been any attempt to carry out phytochemical analysis on various insitu and ex situ plants conserved at the University Botanic Garden and no research has been done to document the educational and economic values of the garden. Moreover, the rate at which the plant biodiversity is being cleared is alarming, and calls for urgent need of conserving plants of high economic values. It is on the basis of such need that the study was carried out at the University Botanic Garden, Maseno (UBGM). The study was carried out over a period of eleven months. The main objective of the study was to identify and provide checklist of plants conserved at the University Botanic Garden, Maseno. Phytochemical screening of five medicinal plant extracts in each of the ten selected plant families was done using various reagents and it revealed that saponins were the most abundant phytochemicals constituting 32.43%, followed by alkaloids (27.03 %) then flavonoids (14.86 %), steroids (12.16%), terpenes (10.81 %) and anthraquinones (2.70 %) respectively. The data collected was presented using tables. Chi-square analysis at P≤0.05 reveals that plant families in which the plants are grouped are dependent on the phytochemicals present in plants. Therefore, there is relationship between the phytochemical obtained from plant and family classification of the plant in question. The information collected through annotated checklist will be used to provide database of vascular plants of high economic value found within the University Botanic Garden, provide information on phytochemicals present in some medicinal plants and hence need for sustainable biodiversity conservation. The knowledge of such medicinal plants will provide vital information to the local community members who still rely on herbal medicine for the treatment of most diseases.

A wound is break in the skin. Wound are usually caused by cuts or scalps, symptoms at wound or injury include swelling, stiffness, tenderness, discoloration skin tightness, itching and scar formation, two types of tissue injury:. Wound healing is a complex dynamic process. The main objective of this investigation is to evaluate wound healing activity of aerial part of Ocimum basilicum Linn and bark of Ficus benghalensis Linn and their polyherbal formulation in wound healing models. Various wound healing models like Excision, Incision, Dead space wound models were evaluated on the parameters like wound contraction, Epithelisation time, tensile strength, wet and dry granuloma weight and hydroxiproline estimation. The main objective of this investigation is to develop a product, which may give a wound healing property, and enhance wound healing process like increase the collagen synthesis, fibroblast proliferation, angiogenesis and epithelization, because products which are available in market are either antiseptic or antimicrobial.

Antihyperlipidemic And Glucose Lowering Effect Of Extract Of Bioregulator Treated Okra (Abelmoschus Esculentus L.) Fruits in Triton-Induced Hyperlipidemia Rats 生物调节剂处理秋葵提取物的降脂降糖作用triton诱导的高脂血症大鼠的水果

Extracts from okra have been used to alleviate not only hyperglycemia but also hyperlipidemia in diabetic mice induced by alloxan and streptozocin. However, its hypolipidemic activity has not yet been clearly studied. This study was aimed to study the antihyperlipidemic potential of bioregulator treated okra fruit in triton-X induced hyperlipidemic rats. Hyperlipidemia was induced in rats by administration of triton-X (100mg/kg i.p.). After 14 days of induction, hyperlipidemic rats received AWB (okra extract treated with bioregulator, AWOB (okra extract without bioregulator) and atorvastatin up to 28 days. The extracts activities were assessed on serum blood glucose, lipid profiles, carbohydrate enzymes, antioxidant and non-enzymes antioxidant enzymes, malondialdehyde level, and HMG-CoA reductase activity of control and drug-treated rats. The extract exhibited a strong dose-dependent antihyperlipidemic activity and at dose level 400mg/kg (AWB) p.o. the extract showed a significant (P≤0.05) decrease in blood glucose, TC, TG, LDL, VLDL, MDA, gluconeogenic enzymes and significant (P≤0.05) increase in HDL-C, glycogenic enzymes, antioxidant enzymes and non-enzymes antioxidant in a dosedependent manner comparing with standard atorvastatintreated group. The present study demonstrated that the extract of bioregulator treated okra exhibits a potent lipid lowering activity and well compared with the atorvastatin than extract without bioregulator.

Microbiological Quality Assessment of Indoor Air of a Private University in Benin City, Nigeria. 尼日利亚贝宁市一所私立大学室内空气微生物质量评价

The evaluation of microorganisms present in indoors has become necessary, as how safe the air in our surrounding environment where we spent time is fundamental to our wellbeing. Hence, this study was aimed at assessing the indoor air quality of a private university in Benin City using the settle plate air sampling technique with sampling done morning and evening, once in succession for two weeks. The estimated concentration range of bacterial aerosols in the indoor environments was 7 – 440 cfu/m 3 and 4 – 90cfu/m 3 for week 1 morning and evening sampling respectively, and 72 – 180 cfu/m 3 and 8 75 cfu/m 3 for week 2 morning and evening sampling respectively. Also, the fungal aerosols concentration range recorded 11 – 45 cfu/m 3 and 3 – 10 cfu/m 3 for week 1 morning and evening sampling respectively, and 1 57 cfu/m 3 and 5 45 cfu/m 3 for week 2 morning and evening sampling respectively. Microbial isolates characterized were Micrococcus luteus, Klebsiella pneumonia, Micrococcus sp., Staphylococcus epidermidis, Serratiamarcensces, Streptococcus pyogenes, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus mirabilis and Escherichia coli, Neurospora sp., Rhizopus sp., Penicillium sp., Candida sp., Fusarium sp. Aspergillusniger, Alternaria sp., Aspergillusfumigatus, Cladosporiumcladosporoides. Among the microbial isolates, Aspergilusniger had the highest percentage frequency (29%) while Sarretiamarcensces and Candida sp. had the least percentage frequency (4%) each. These isolates are considered potential candidates of ‘sick building’ syndromes. Thus, attention must be given to control environmental factors which favour microbial growth and multiplication in indoor environment for health safety.

The estimated concentration range of bacterial aerosols in the indoor environments was 7 – 440 cfu/m 3 and 4 – 90cfu/m 3 for week 1 morning and evening sampling respectively, and 72 – 180 cfu/m 3 and 8 75 cfu/m 3 for week 2 morning and evening sampling respectively. Also, the fungal aerosols concentration range recorded 11 – 45 cfu/m 3 and 3 – 10 cfu/m 3 for week 1 morning and evening sampling respectively, and 1 57 cfu/m 3 and 5 45 cfu/m 3 for week 2 morning and evening sampling respectively. Microbial isolates characterized were Micrococcus luteus, Klebsiella pneumonia, Micrococcus sp., Staphylococcus epidermidis, Serratiamarcensces, Streptococcus pyogenes, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus mirabilis and Escherichia coli, Neurospora sp., Rhizopus sp., Penicillium sp., Candida sp., Fusarium sp. Aspergillusniger, Alternaria sp., Aspergillusfumigatus, Cladosporiumcladosporoides. Among the microbial isolates, Aspergilusniger had the highest percentage frequency (29%) while Sarretiamarcensces and Candida sp. had the least percentage frequency (4%) each. These isolates are considered potential candidates of ‘sick building’ syndromes. A Retrospective Study To Assess The Resistance Profile Among Pathogens Causing Urinary Tract Infection In Pediatric Population At A Tertiary Hospital 某三级医院儿童尿路感染病原菌耐药性的回顾性研究

Urinary tract infection is one among the most commonly diagnosed infection of childhood. Frequent unwanted unwarranted usage of antibiotics does more harm. Its important to know the sensitivity pattern in the community. Method: A total of 75 children were included in the study. Culture and sensitivity patterns were checked. Satististical analysis was done on frequency and mean. Results: More of females were found in the study. E.coli was the most common organism isolated. Culture and sensitivity test were done only for few patients. The most frequent empirical antibiotic used was ceftriaxone and cefixime. Interpretation And Conclusions: The high prevalence of drug resistance among UTI patients calls for continuous monitoring of the incidence of drug resistance for appropriate empiric selection of antibiotic therapy. Empirical treatment of UTIs should be relied on susceptibility patterns from local studies.

Anti-Diabetic and Antihyperlipidemic Activities of Alternanthera Sessilis in Experimentally Induced Type 2 Diabetes 芒萁对实验性2型糖尿病的抗糖尿病和降血脂作用

The antidiabetic and antihyperlipidemic effects of ethanolic extract of whole plant of Alternanthera sessilis (EEAS) was investigated in Streptozotocin (STZ) induced type 2 diabetic rats. Diabetes was confirmed after 3 days of single intraperitoneal injection of STZ (35mg/kg) in albino Wistar rats. EEAS (100 and 200mg/kg) and glibenclamide (10mg/kg) orally administered daily for 15 days respectively, blood was withdrawn for glucose determination on 1, 7, 15 days respectively. On 15 th day, overnight fasted rats were sacrificed and blood was collected for determination of high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG). EEAS at doses of 100mg/kg and 200mg/kg showed significant reduction in blood glucose and lipid profiles when compared to diabetic control group. We concluded that EEAS possess antidiabetic and antihyperlipidemic activities.

Simultaneous Estimation of Hydrochlorothiazide and Losartan Potassium in Bulk Solid Dosage Form by Chemometric Assisted Spectrophotometric Methods 化学辅助分光光度法同时测定散装固体剂型中氢氯噻嗪和氯沙坦钾的含量

A simple UV-visible spectroscopic method was developed and Chemo metric designs were applied for the simultaneous estimation of hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) and losartan potassium (LST) in bulk and solid dosage form. The spectroscopic method was developed by using alcohol as solvent for the two drugs and the data generated from the spectra were mined by using Chemo metric methods such as bi-linear regression analysis, Cramer’s matrix method, Method of least squares, The wavelengths selected for all the above methods were 271 nm (wavelength of maximum absorption; λmax of HCT), 213 nm (wavelength of maximum absorption; λmax of LST). Results: The methods hold good linearity for HCT from 1-5μg/ml, for LST from 2-10μg/ml with regression coefficient values of 0.945 and 0.964 respectively. The intraday and inter-day precision was found to be less than 2% RSD. The percentage recovery and percentage assay was in the range 85-105% of for hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) and losartan potassium (LST) by all the methods. Conclusion: The developed methods neither require any cumbersome separation procedure nor complex derivatization procedures for the analysis of the two drugs and more over they are effective in minimizing the errors in analysis, simple and economical.
