Bone regeneration with autologous dentin: a case report and histological analysis 自体牙本质骨再生1例报告及组织学分析

Introduction: Bone regeneration in post-extraction sockets has been frequently used with bone grafts, some authors have proposed the use of autologous dentin as a substitute for these bone grafts. Materials and methods: An extraction and an autologous dentin regeneration was performed in a 28-year-old patient on tooth 21, it was evaluated radiographically at 9 months and subsequently histological study, to evaluate the results at a microscopic level. Results: Clinically good tissue integration was observed. In the biopsy, a physiological bone remodeling was observed, where the dentin particles are biologically integrated with the adjacent alveolar bone. and evidence on autologous dentin outcome of implementation

Although it’s considerable prevalence, diagnosis and treatment of SB still raises doubts for clinicians and researchers. SB is defined as a parafunctional activity of the masticatory muscles, which differs through the circadian moment in which the event takes place: during sleep (SB) or in waking state (awake bruxism).2 Such parafunction is not seen as a disorder, but rather as a motor behavior of multifactorial etiology, which turns out to be a sign of some other health condition.3,4

Effects of pre and postoperative dexamethasone for control of pain, swelling and trismus after third molar surgery: a randomized, triple-blind clinical trial 地塞米松对控制第三磨牙手术后疼痛、肿胀和牙关的影响:一项随机、三盲临床试验

of administration of for control of Abstract The aim of the present study was to establish the effects of pre- and postoperative administration of dexamethasone for upper and lower third molar surgery. A randomized, triple-blind clinical trial with a split-mouth design was conducted with a sample composed of 30 patients. Participants were divided in two groups: Group A (one dose of dexamethasone 12 hours after surgery) and Group B (one dose of placebo 12 hours after surgery). All patients received single dose of dexamethasone (8mg) and nimesulide (100mg) per oral route, one hour before surgery. The outcome variables were: pain, total number of analgesics taken, interval between analgesics, swelling and trismus. Those parameters were evaluated in different timepoints. Quantitative data were subjected to the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test and compared by means of the paired t-test and ANOVA. Group A showed less selling and trismus 48h after surgery (p=0.167), but no statistical significant different were found. On assessment of postoperative pain 16 hours after surgery, the scores were higher in Group B (placebo) (p=0.031). One additional dose of dexamethasone administered in the postoperative period decreased the pain score and caused reductions in the facial swelling measurement and trismus.

The restorative dentistry evolved a lot in the past years with the improvement of techniques and adhesive materials. However, the dentin substrate adherence is still considered a major challenge.1 The presence of fluids within dentinal tubules, the regional variation of the dentine and the presence of collagen make critical the performance of adhesive procedures in the substrate. These variable are related to failure of the adhesive restorations through the marginal maladaptation and the reduction of the tooth-restoration union.2

Colorectal Carcinoma with Metastasis to Oral Mucosa; Two Cases Report 结直肠癌伴口腔黏膜转移两例报告

Oral metastasis of tumours is known to cause 1% of all oral malignancies and is most often the result of a primary in lung,breast and kidney [1,2]. The location of the metastasis is usually the jaw bones as opposed to soft tissues. A metastasis fromcolorectal adenocarcinoma to the soft tissues is hence extremely infrequent. The gingivae (55%) followed by the tongue (30%)are the most common soft tissue sites affected by metastatic tumour in the mouth [3]. The diagnosis of such cases is dependenton adequate history taking and although has a poor prognosis but early detection and effective treatment are necessary toaid in treatment and follow up. Here we report two cases of colorectal adenocarcinoma that metastasized to the oral gingivaand were diagnosed by histology and supportive immunohistochemistry.

Contemporary approach to odontogenic keratocyst: a review of the literature and case report 牙源性角化囊肿的现代治疗方法:文献回顾及病例报告

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the Odontogenic Keratocyst treatment through enucleation and cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen in a lesion that had previously been biopsied and also to compare the microscopic characteristic of the enucleated lesion to the biopsy microscopy. Enucleation was performed in a 27-year-old female patient with previously diagnosis by initial biopsy. The lesion extended from left mandibular body region to the ramus ipsilateral. The use of this technique proved to be an effective treatment. It is believed that the initial biopsies allowed a decrease in the size of the lesion and increase the thickness of the fibrous capsule, which prevent the rupture of the keratocyst capsule.

Submandibular duct sialoliths of unusual sizes- two case reports 下颌下导管异常大小的唾液结石- 2例报告

Sialoliths are formed by deposition of calcium salts around the central nidus which may consist of altered salivary mucins, desquamated epithelial cells, bacteria and foreign bodies.1 They may occur at any age, and account for more than 50% of the salivary gland diseases. Approximately 80-90% of these occur in submandibular gland or its duct, 5-10% in parotid gland and remaining in sublingual gland and other minor salivary glands.2‒4 The common involvement of submandibular gland and duct is due to the tenacity of submandibular saliva, which because of its high mucin content adheres to any foreign particle.1 The main etiological factors for stone formation are related to saliva retention and saliva composition: among patients with sialolithiasis, the salivary calcium concentration is higher compared to healthy individuals. Other risk factors include increased saliva viscosity, which may result from chronic dehydration typically seen in elderly persons or to secretory inactivity. Commonly, sialoliths measure 5-10mm in size, stones over 10mm can be reported to be sialoliths of unusual size.3 Giant sialoliths are rare and 95% of them have been reported in submandibular glands, all of them occurring in male patients.5

Purpose: The objective of this study was to develop novel bio-composite Nanofiller (Quaternary polyethyleneimineHydroxyapatite, QPEI/HAp), which combines the antibacterial activity of polymeric quaternary ammonium salt and themulti-advantages of Hydroxyapatite nanoparticles for improving biological and physico-mechanical properties of DentalAdhesives.Materials and Methods: Hydroxyapatite (HAp) nano rods were produced by hydrothermal process and coated byPolyethyleneimine (PEI) via electrostatic adsorption, followed by two steps polymeric reaction; tertiary amination andquaternization. The resulting powder was characterized using XRD, FTIR and TEM before and after polymer coating,and bioactivity was evaluated after 7 days soaking in simulated body fluid using XRD analysis. An experimental ethanolbased one-bottle adhesive resin was formulated with 0.2, 0.5, 1, 2 and 5% QPEI/HAp nanofiller. The formulated adhesiveresins were evaluated for their colloidal stability, antibacterial activity, Ultimate Tensile Strength, and Micro-Shear bondstrength to dentin.Results: Powder characterization confirmed successful surface modification of Hydroxyapatite nanoparticles with PEIpolymer; the particles presented a high crystallinity with typical chemical groups and mean size around 20 nanometers.XRD analysis revealed nucleation of apatite crystals on the surface of QPEI/HAp nanoparticles after soaking in SBF;confirming their bioactivity. Lower contents of modified nanoparticles showed little or no aggregation tendency and goodcolloidal stability in the adhesive solution with Zeta potential of 30.6 mV. Antibacterial outcomes of PEI against S. mutanswas significantly higher than that of MDPB in Clearfil Protect bond; a commercial adhesive used as control (P<0.05). Theaddition of 0.2 wt. % modified nano-hydroxyapatite resulted in higher values of Ultimate Tensile and Micro-Shear bondstrength than other tested adhesives and commercial Clearfil S3 Bond (all-in-one adhesive); (P<0.05).Conclusion: Incorporation of 0.2 wt. % QPEI-HAp nanoparticles significantly improved the adhesive properties and maybe promising multifunctional filler for dental adhesive resin.

Genetics play most important role in the determination of palmer dermatoglyphics. Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is due to consumption of areca nut. Environmental and Hereditary factors causing OSMF may lead to peculiarities in the dermatoglyphic patterns. Dermatoglyphics can identify the disease at the earliest, and preventive measures can be instituted for subjects having OSMF, leukoplakia etc.3

Physical appearance plays an important role in social relations, especially considering the current beauty standards, in which white and aligned teeth are essential for aesthetic of excellence.1 In this sense, in the search for color harmony and, consequently, aesthetic improvement, many treatment alternatives are used in dentistry, among them, tooth whitening, direct and indirect veneers, contact lenses, and the dentin deflation technique.
