Curriculum reform in Brazilian secondary education: Creating global citizens
Pub Date : 2023-03-28 DOI: 10.22219/jiko.v8i01.24226

Teaching people how to read, write, and count in a globalized and multicultural society is no longer sufficient. Skills like respecting one another, combating racism, prejudice, and intolerance, and learning to address local and global problems have become critical. UNESCO's Global Citizenship Education (GECD) initiative has faced criticisms for promoting secular values over religious ones and being too individualistic at times. Therefore, this article proposes improvements to GECD, including the introduction of new knowledge areas such as Negotiation, Social Justice, Brazilian and Global Culture, Values and Perceptions, Brazilian and Global Institutions, Conflict Resolution, Respect, and Tolerance. The objective is two-fold: to reform the GECD curriculum by presenting a new course on Global Education and Citizenship adapted to the Brazilian educational context and to reform the Brazilian National Common Core Curriculum (BNCC) for secondary education.

This study investigates the nexus of bank credit and economic growth in Indonesia, reveals the sectoral base by individual intercept, and asses too much financing through the financial deepening ratio. Exploring data from 14 sectoral economics in the 2011-2020 annual period and tackling the research objectives by applying panel regression of the fix effect model, the result shows that bank credit drives economic growth; six sectors had positive intercepted, and the rest were negative. Meanwhile, the financial deepening coefficient indicates too much financing phenomenon; therefore, elective bank credit needs to escalate

This research aims to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on socially responsible investment, specifically the SRI-KEHATI stock index on the Jakarta Stock Exchange. The study utilizes secondary data comprising 11,175 observations from 35 public companies, spanning from March 2, 2020, to December 31, 2021. Panel data regression is employed to examine the relationship between stock returns and confirmed COVID-19 cases, serving as the independent variable. The model is controlled for market capitalization, market-to-book ratio, and firm size. Additionally, Indonesia's lockdown policy is incorporated as a dummy variable. The findings reveal a significant negative impact of confirmed cases on SRI-KEHATI stock returns.

Gender equality promotes equal rights, responsibilities, and opportunities for all genders. Nowadays, organizations are adopting a globally competitive environment with programs that promote diversity, inclusion, and non-discrimination policies. This study aimed to determine the extent of the practice of gender equality and workplace diversity in a School Division Office. The respondents were 110 non-teaching employees who completed a research questionnaire. This study utilized a descriptive comparative-correlational research design. The results indicated a high extent of practice for gender equality and an even higher extent for workplace diversity. Additionally, the results revealed a significant relationship between gender equality and workplace diversity. Therefore, employees demonstrate a commitment to practicing gender equality within their diverse workplace, fostering a multicultural setting.

Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) is a widely used macroeconomic indicator to measure socioeconomic development. A comprehensive GRDP calculation requires complete data available from the national level down to minor administrative areas. However, institutions that carry out GRDP calculations often face challenges in obtaining complex data at smaller administrative levels. This paper explores the use of nighttime light (NTL) data as an alternative data source to estimate GRDP and its changes. The results of the panel data regression with random effects show that NTL data is statistically significant in describing GRDP in various Indonesian provinces. However, during the pandemic, NTL was not substantial in describing GRDP and showed movements that were not in line with GRDP.

In the last eight years, Indonesia has extensive forests as paper raw materials and has experienced three accusations of paper dumping practices in foreign trade or exports. The allegation of dumping practices addressed to Indonesia was submitted to the WTO as the institution that oversees all trade issues between countries in the form of filing a case or trade lawsuit. Three lawsuits from Pakistan, South Korea, and Australia over allegations of paper dumping practices at the WTO have been won by Indonesia. From an Islamic law perspective, dumping itself is prohibited if it aims to harm other countries. This article aims to provide an overview of Indonesia's paper dumping practice allegations from the perspective of Islamic law, with an explanatory and narrative approach.

The development of information technology has almost entered all economic and daily activities, such as in the financial aspect (financial technology). Since the pandemic, many e-wallets have been used as digital payment tools in Batam city, especially ShopeePay. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the level of adoption of ShopeePay by utilizing the TAM component and perceived risk, which refers to disease risk known as perceived COVID-19 risk. Purposive sampling is used as a sampling technique, with 179 samples obtained through google Forms filed by respondents. The results of this study found that there is a significant influence between perceived usefulness and ease of use on behavioral intention. Meanwhile, perceived COVID-19 risk does not significantly affect behavioral intention.

This study investigates the determinants of the exchange rate in European Emerging Market and Developing Countries (EMDEs), including Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Rep. Moldova, Rep. North Macedonia, Romania, Russia, and Ukraine. This study uses secondary data from 2000-2019 in time series and panel data with a sample of 8 countries sourced from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank. A regression method was used for time series data to analyze each country, and panel data was used for eight countries. Time series regression results show the influence of different relationships in each country. Meanwhile, the panel data regression found that exchange rate fluctuations in EMDE's European countries, GDP growth, and Terms of Trade (ToT) had a significant positive effect on exchange rates. It means that an increase in GDP and ToT growth affects the exchange rate appreciation, and a decrease in GDP and ToT growth affects the exchange rate depreciation in EMDE's European countries. Meanwhile, inflation and loan interest rates have a significant adverse effect on the exchange rate. It means that every decrease in inflation and interest rates on loans affects the appreciation of the exchange rate and vice versa, increases in inflation and interest rates on loans result in exchange rate depreciation in EMDE's European countries.

This study aims to measure the company's performance based on Economic Value Added (EVA). The independent variables are Investment Capital, Return on Assets, Fixed Assets, Rate of Return on Fixed Assets, and Level Debt. This study uses data from 25 manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange over the 2016-2019 period. This study shows a significant negative effect of Investment Capital and Debt Level on EVA. The variable rate of return on fixed assets has a substantial impact on EVA, and there is no significant effect of the return on assets and fixed assets on EVA. Thus, it is expected that financial managers can increase profits and reduce debt to increase EVA.

The independent variables are Investment Capital, Return on Assets, Fixed Assets, Rate of Return on Fixed Assets, and Level Debt. This study uses data from 25 manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange over the 2016-2019 period. This study shows a significant negative effect of Investment Capital and Debt Level on EVA. The variable rate of return on fixed assets has a substantial impact on EVA, and there is no significant effect of the return on assets and fixed assets on EVA. Thus, it is expected that financial managers can increase profits and reduce debt to increase EVA.","PeriodicalId":158927,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Inovasi Ekonomi","volume":"291 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117327187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
