Big Data is now becoming more mainstream and its adaptation has increased many folds now and there is a new trend and demand for Fast Data. All size of companies are starting to use Big Data to obtain their customers insight in order to serve them in a better way. The use of Big Data has become quite a crucial way for businesses to compete with their competitors. There are certain sectors which needs processing of this Big Data in real time to obtain maximum value for their business. The case study demonstrates the demand in the new Fast Data platform for financial industries in order to process their huge volume of data in real time to provide more valuable decision support information. During the tough social economical condition the financial firm in particularly needs more analytics with their performance in order to make any informed decision. The utilisation of Fast Data thus becoming more and more essential to businesses and it is even more important for them to adopt the right Fast Data platform to accomplish their goals. The study iterates the real need for the Fast Data platform for the company and their strategical approach towards achieving this platform. As with any new technologies its not a straight forward to implement the desired solutions and it takes a lot of hard work to accomplish the task and this study demonstrates the level of efforts required and the challenges faced in order to implement a successful Fast Data platform in an asset management firm.

Research have shown that majority of start-ups fail. The reasons can be expressed as follows: premature scaling, poor product, ignoring customer needs, etc. This failure is caused by the lack of entrepreneurial skills of founders and their co-workers. Creating favorable start-up ecosystem requires cooperation of many stakeholders such as companies, public institutions (universities, self-governing regions, etc.) as well as enthusiastic individuals. Universities play crucial role in the ecosystem creation. They are actively trying to prepare students for their entrepreneurial career. They are organizing events as well as offering courses, which should help students to succeed with their start-ups. This paper describes the development of an entrepreneurial course at the University of Žilina. There was used case study method for describing several years of experiences with creation of such a course. Authors have tested various approaches in order to develop complex system of startup education which consists of university course, related thematic events and practical experience for students aiming to establish their own business. The system consists of using simple visual tools and related practical activities which will further improve their entrepreneurial knowledge. This proposed system serves as a basis for future research.

Extant literature of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) adoption in educational institutions examines the benefits from a student perspective and how effectively it can be used to support learning activities. It is also acknowledged that it is more widely used for scholastic administrative tasks and research purposes than it is for teaching. Thus, there is little academic literature that addresses the use of BYOD in education from a staff user perspective. Using two case studies this research investigates the use and practice of BYOD within Higher Education (HE)and Further Education (FE) institutions. We identify which technological devices are preferred, the activities they perform and establish the perceived advantages and disadvantages of academic staff using BYOD as part of their teaching and scholastic activities.

The knowledge uprising has brought about increase focus on the role of knowledge in enhancing the sustainability and competitiveness of organizations in what has been termed the 'knowledge era'. Each organization is trying to come up with ways of sharing knowledge to create impact in the society they thrive in. This paper is based on exploratory survey to assess the knowledge sharing techniques amongst the jua kali artisans in Kenya. This study sought to analyze knowledge sharing amongst Jua Kali workers in Kenya; Describe the nature of their business; investigate the type of knowledge they posses; identify the knowledge sharing mechanism they use; analyze how effective the knowledge sharing mechanisms have been; identify the challenges affecting the effective sharing of knowledge; and propose strategies which can be used by the Jua Kali workers in Kenya to enhance effective knowledge sharing. Primary data was collected through interviews using self-administered questionnaires which were distributed to the Jua kali artisans. Additional information on Jua kali workers was collected from relevant scholarly documents analysis. The findingsindicate that most of the Jua Kali workers use mentoring as a way of sharing knowledge. These knowledge sharing techniques are hampered by language barrier this is because some of the mentors or trainees are largely illiterate and can only communicate in their vernaculars. The findings can be use by the Kenyan government to develop a training of trainers programme for the experienced artisans to equip them with new skills as well as how to impart them.

With the evolution of sea floor exploration technologies, marine samples and the corresponding geochemical data increased dramatically. The heterogeneity of the data in terms of syntactic and semantic structures becomes an obstacle to knowledge integration, transmission and sharing. In order to solve the problems of long-lived data collection and integration, this paper proposes a semi-automatic method based on a semantic extraction and semantic matching technique. We develop semantic extract and semantic matching tools, which are named Metadata Extraction and Metadata Mapping respectively. Metadata Extraction tool could extract the metadata of users' datasets. Metadata Mapping tool could establish semantic mappings semi-automatically. Moreover, hierarchies of users' metadata are added automatically according to the semantic mapping. The method is applied to marine geochemical data from Cruises of Chinese International Deep Seabed Resource Survey. Experimental results show that our approach not only reduce the workload of data integration, but also immensely eliminate the problem of the semantic heterogeneity.

Nowadays, development of existing technologies, there is a rapid growth in genomics and proteomics that have produced a large biological data. The sophisticated computational analyses needed to draw the conclusions from these data. Analyzing these biological data requires making sense of the data by inferring structure or generalizations from the data. Data mining plays an essential role in a variety of applications such as business organizations, health care and biological data analysis. The biological data analysis includes protein structure prediction, gene classification, cancer classification with the help of microarray data, clustering of gene expression data, statistical modeling of protein-protein interaction, etc. This paper presents a multi relational framework for the classification of protein/gene localization using fuzzy decision tree. The dataset has taken from KDD Cup 2001 task 2. The experimental results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method when compared with the existing system.

Data quality is of utmost importance in large product databases. This is especially true for food products, since potentially health-critical data is contained. With growing database size, manual quality assurance becomes infeasible. GS1 Sync, governed by GS1 Austria, is rapidly becoming the largest national food product database. In order to support manual quality assurance, we have conceptualized a process to conduct product data quality assurance in an automatic way, based on defining rules and classifying product data. In order to evaluate our approach, we have implemented a prototype and performed a proof-of-concept. Although our research is still a work-in-progress, we were able to show that our approach is able to find a substantial number of issues that did not appear during manual control.

In spite of their potential to launch locally-relevant programmes, national civil society organisations (CSOs) in developing countries are overshadowed by their international counterparts which receive the largest portions of donor funding available in developing countries. The preference of donors to channel funds through international CSOs is largely attributed to the lack of institutional and technical capacity of local CSOs to implement large-scale development programmes. A number of initiatives have been launched to respond to this challenge. Some of these initiatives include the issuing of capacity-building grants, development of capacity-building toolkits and implementation of capacity-building programmes such as training and mentorship as well as technical assistance. Most of these capacity-building programmes have not yielded the desired results. The persistence of capacity challenges among national CSOs in developing countries is a clear indication of the ineffectiveness of the conventional capacity building models. The objectives of this study were to describe the concept of knowledge marketplace; explore the types of knowledge marketplaces currently deployed by national CSOs in developing countries; ascertain the benefits CSOs derive from knowledge marketplaces; and assess the effectiveness of knowledge marketplaces as platforms for knowledge creation, validation and diffusion amongst CSOs in developing countries. Primary data was collected using Delphi technique from seven experts from Kenya, Zambia and Belarus. Additional data was collected through literature review. The findings indicate that knowledge marketplaces are effective in facilitating the creation and diffusion of locally-relevant knowledge amongst national CSOs in developing countries.

Knowledge Management (KM) and knowledge sharing (KS) have become crucial tasks for both Middle Managers and Top Managers of many organizations, especially those who highly rely on the type of knowledge which is difficult to transfer from one person to another, or what is called "Tacit Knowledge". The objective of this case study is to review the practical knowledge transfer techniques, the main motivators and demotivators of a tacit knowledge transfer process, and the measures that can be taken to overcome the demotivation factors. Siemens is chosen for this case study because it has been recently rated as one of the top Knowledge-Management-driven companies. We present here our own observations on some of the KM practices that Siemens strives to implement in its branches in the Middle East countries and the barriers which are challenging such practices.

Indigenous knowledge (IK) is the anchor for survival and stability in indigenous communities and acts as the information base for local-level decision making in agriculture, health care, food preparation, education, natural resource management, and a host of other activities especially in rural settings. Although IK plays an important role in buttressing the survival of communities, available evidence indicates that it is neglected, vindicated, stigmatised and suppressed among the majority of the world's communities. Consequently, its true potential is hardly realised in most communities. An aspect of neglect of IK is exemplified in the level and scope of research conducted and published about it. This present study investigated the current state of indigenous knowledge research in Kenya by conducting a bibliometric analysis of the relevant research outputs in the country. Data for the study was collected through content analysis of the publications on IK in Kenya found in Google Scholar. The issues analysed include the nature of publication, authorship details, publication trends, as well as the focus of publication. The findings indicate that there is minimal research on IK in Kenya. The findings also revealed that most of the research on IK in Kenya is conducted by foreign nationals. Therefore, the authors conclude that IK is still marginalised in Kenya. The results of this study can be used by the Government of Kenya to develop policies which mainstream indigenous knowledge as a critical national intellectual asset through research. The findings may also be used by training institutions to recognise IK and develop relevant curricula to enhance capacity on it.
