Knowledge management is becoming increasingly imperative in today's business world. To gain sustainable competitive advantage, a firm's organizational knowledge base must be well protected, cultivated and shared among employees. A literature review on knowledge conversion was conducted to gain an understanding of how firms' knowledge management strategies can be assessed using the Balanced Scorecard. The results of the ensuing empirical survey show that customer relevance, internal capability and organizational learning have significant effects on the respondents' reported satisfaction with their knowledge management.

Many researchers believe that enterprise knowledge today is the key resource to ensure the effectiveness of the firm. However, the empirical investigations of practical usage of management tools show that knowledge management meets the expectations much less frequently than other technologies. The hypothesis that value of accumulated enterprise knowledge is materialized in the form of changes in internal systems and external environment is proposed here on base of theoretical analysis. Therefore, change management is a complementary activity to the knowledge management, only joint development of these two management disciplines can provide the greatest effectiveness. To check this hypothesis empirical survey of 88 Russian companies was conducted. Survey results confirm that firms, which invest in knowledge management and change management simultaneously, are more effective than firms, which develop only one of these practices.

The progress of the Internet of Things (IoT) or ubiquitous computing has increased the need for information security to high levels. Information security initiatives in an enterprise cover complicated processes that are affected by many factors including the human factor, education, technology, and organizational culture. Therefore, there is a clear difference in company's efforts towards information security, depending on the size of the company. This research focuses on small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Japan. SMEs' incentives and resources are generally limited, and therefore it tends to widen the gap between themselves and large companies. In this study, we elucidated a critical difference regarding information security measures between "the truly excellent SMEs (the top-tier SMEs)" and "the runners-up following the top-tier SMEs" by applying qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) and text-mining to the interview survey of SMEs in Japan.
