This study investigates college students' perceptions in developing their communicative competence in the English as a foreign language (EFL) context by adopting authentic language learning materials and interactive activities from technology, entertainment and design (TED). TED is a web-based platform that is open to anyone and easily accessible, and TED has lately been recognised to have significant pedagogical potentials in English language instruction. Data for this study was gathered through online questionnaire and semi structured focus group interview, and students' writing samples on the TED website. By implementing an integrated approach to develop four English language skills and strategies, this paper illustrates how a web-based platform like TED can offer EFL learners interactive and meaningful English language learning environment. This study then suggests ways for teachers to design a creative and authentic English language course in order to promote genuine language learning experience and develop communicative competence of EFL learners.

Upon joining the OECD-DAC in 2010, the Korean government has made continuous efforts to improve its ODA and meet international calls for sharing its experiences. This preliminary study aims to suggest a viable approach to effective international development cooperation through official development assistance (ODA) to information and communications technology (ICT) for education, Bangladesh. Data collection primarily relies on secondary sources including documents and research reports. The data analysis reveals that there has been an increasing emphasis on the effectiveness and quality developmental cooperation. At the centre of the emphasis are partnership, alignment and harmonisation, creativity and innovation between donor and recipient countries for better and sustainable development, not a unilateral aid from donor countries. Implications are drawn for effective integrating ICT into education from the findings, visions and challenges. The study proposes a comprehensive, innovative and creative international educational development cooperation model for customised and sustainable educational development assistance.

In order to invigorate communicative language teaching, until recently the South Korean government actively promoted the hiring of native English speaking teachers (NESTs) at state schools. However, mainly due to constrained budgets, many local offices of education have now started to rapidly cut the number of NESTs. This paper takes a critical approach to examine possible impacts of the recent variation in NEST policy on the disparity in learning opportunities between financially privileged and underprivileged students. We begin with a brief review of the history of NEST employment in South Korean state schools. Then, we delve into whether there are pedagogical advantages in team teaching over sole Korean English Teacher teaching. Later, the current policy's driving forces, potential beneficiaries and victims, and outcome of the policy will be discussed. On the basis of the analysis of the recent trend in NEST policy, suggestions for future policy reforms are provided.

This paper presents a robot-mediated learning environment for children, exploring the possibility of motivating children to focus on a socially appropriate, but unappealing task. To examine the effect quantitatively, we incorporated the task of cleaning up toy blocks. Performance was measured by the number of blocks children cleaned up. We compared results in three different cases: without the robot, with the robot programmed to take children's perspective in a moderate way, and with the robot programmed to take children's perspective in a strong or repeated way. The findings were very interesting. Perspective taking in both cases increased children's intimacy with the robot and enhanced cleaning performance. However, we found that strong stimuli generated a lower level of intimacy but a higher cleaning performance than moderate stimuli. On the basis of these findings, we propose potential applications of robot-mediated learning for young children.

This study developed a STEAM program of exploring paleotemperature using fossil leaves to cultivate the literacy of climate change and relevant systematic thinking in middle- and high-school students through club activities. To develop the program, the demand, analysis of the education process and class objectives were established using the PDIE model. The class curriculum was designed in the stages of presenting the situation, establishing creative hypothesis, emotional experience and a new challenge. The developed program was verified through the validity test and the Delphi method and was supplemented through a pilot test. The results of the validity test yielded the CVR value of 0.90 and the program was proved valid on all evaluation items. By emphasising art-based activities of collecting, observing and sketching fossils, this program arouses interest and enjoyment in the class and, alongside with providing a stimulating intellectual learning environment, provides students with a valuable opportunity to learn in a creativity and personality.

The aim of this study is to investigate a creative writing teaching method for the college students' self-discovery with the use of big data. The following thesis proposes a way of utilising big data into problem-solving strategies for writing lesson plans. Nowadays, big data has great influence in diverse academic and industrial fields. In this paper, big data is the crucial medium that enhances critical and logical thinking in the writing process. With the use of big data, this study intends to introduce the writing strategies that lead positive reasoning of the writing subjects (authors). Similar to the situation that big data creates a new business model, big data will play a major role in the area of writing education by establishing an innovative and creative writing model. This study also tries to develop the college students' self-discovery through creative and specific writing education.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of web-based science journal writing on science-related affective domain of sixth grade students in Korea. Thirty-three Korean students attending a science journal writing program wrote journals for five months in their science classroom. The methods used in this study is a mixed method, were the data sources include sixth grade students' journals, questionnaire and interviews. The results indicate that science journal writing has influenced on the affective domain especially on the students' metacognition, on their interests in science and on their scientific attitudes. Therefore, this paper represents a creative research of framing scientific literacy with a 'science for all' goal, based on web-based science journal writing on science-related affective domain.

Although prior research has abundantly revealed the types and methods of applicable hard/software in accordance with the different purposes of language classrooms, the quality of discourse manifested in those information and communications technologies (ICT)-mediated teaching contexts is still unexplored. This study, therefore, provides a detailed sequential analysis of the utterances in ICT-mediated instruction in Korean primary English classrooms. This approach is differentiated from the existing mainstream of research, which takes the top-down process to the ICT-mediated language classrooms. The result of the study reveals that the enriched content of ICT tools was effective in terms of promoting students' interests and motivation, but the teachers did not seem to efficiently maintain the students' participation. This finding will contribute to enlarging the scope of ICT-related research and developing effective interactional practices of ICT-mediated language teaching and learning.

This research aims to provide useful implications for smart learning in English education through the design of a creative comparison methodology to analyse the usage of various university student devices used in South Korea in 2008 and 2014. We found that mobile phone and smart phone multi-purpose devices were ranked highest in terms of possession and portability, but were not used significantly in English learning. In contrast, single-purpose devices such as portable multimedia players (PMP) and e-dictionaries were highly used in English learning, although they scored low on metrics of possession and portability. In summary, it is necessary to encourage students to select suitable learning content and to consider how to embrace single purpose devices, in smart learning.

Reflection is known to be at the centre of professional development. This study aims to investigate how trainees are engaged in self-reflection upon their own learning at an experiential training course. A series of face-to-face sessions on teaching reading to young learners is provided and complemented by online asynchronous communication. Data are gathered from pre- and post-session questionnaires, logs from trainees' learning journals, interviews, observation and trainees' work. The triangulated analysis of the collected data reveals that the experiential learning with online interaction is conducive to raising trainees' awareness through critical reflection. It also shows roles that technology plays in trainees' creative thinking in devising unconventional learning activities. The findings of the study further provide implications for pre- and in-service teacher training program development and practice in other contexts.
