Background and Purpose: This study examined the challenges faced by the Orang Asli students from the Jah Hut tribe and their reactions towards the integration of their cultural elements in learning the English language at two Orang Asli schools in Temerloh, Pahang, Malaysia. It also sought to investigate students’ and teachers’ motivation in learning and teaching the subject. Methodology: This critical qualitative inquiry employed a case study approach employing semi-structured interviews and non-participant classroom observations. A total of 14 participants were selected through purposive sampling technique, which consisted of ten Orang Asli students, three Orang Asli teachers, and one Malay teacher from two Orang Asli’s schools in Temerloh district. Findings: The findings indicated that integrating the Orang Asli’s own culture into the English lessons had captivated their interest immensely. The most motivating and stimulating lessons were centred around cultural celebrations, the use of the native language, cooking the Orang Asli delicacies, and parading and explaining their outfits and costumes. Teachers responded to the importance of Culturally Responsive Teaching strategies’ acceptance and use in the classrooms regardless of the composition of the students. Similarly, they felt that the knowledge of understanding the cultures of others is critical as it allows one to understand the struggles, and slowly develop a sense of appreciation towards differences. Contribution: The study highlights pertinent information regarding the issue of a ‘one size fits all curriculum’, especially in the teaching of the English language with the diversity of people in Malaysia. It also provides suggestions on classroom teaching strategies for multicultural classrooms. It also adds input to the existing literature on the integration of cultural elements in the teaching of the English language to the Orang Asli students. Keywords: Integration, culturally responsive teaching, Orang Asli, Jah Hut, ESL classrooms, cultural elements, indigenous pedagogy, English language curriculum. Cite as: Idrus, F., Hussin, M. Background and Purpose: Typically, Chinese Muslims have relationship conflict with their non-Muslim family (bonding social capital) and Malay community (bridging social capitals) after converting to Islam. The conflict will affect their social capital. The main aim of this study was to identify the bonding and bridging social capitals among Kelantan Peranakan Chinese Muslim community in Kelantan, Malaysia in the aspects of trust, reciprocity, and cohesion. Methodology: This descriptive study was conducted utilising the sequential explanatory mixed method approaches, involving Chinese Muslims in the Kelantan state. A total of 75 respondents participated in the quantitative study, and five of them involved in the qualitative study. The methods used for sampling were the purposive sampling and snowball sampling. The quantitative data were collected through a survey questionnaire, while the qualitative data were gathered through semi-structured interviews. Findings: The findings revealed that the reciprocal and cohesive elements mostly occurred with bridging social capital only. As for the trust aspect, the respondents indicated that they believe in bonding and bridging social capitals only on occasional basis. It was also found that the relationship conflict existed among Chinese Muslim after conversion with their family members who are not converted to Islam and also with the Malay community. Contributions: This study contributes significantly to the body of knowledge due to lack of recent publications that explain the relationship in the social capital aspect, which is a very essential aspect to change the community, as a means of achieving the community development. Background and Purpose: With the acceleration of mobile payment usage in the daily routine, this study intends to examine the determinant factors on the users’ behavioural intention on the Sarawak Pay using the theory of reasoned action (TRA), technology acceptance model (TAM), unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT), and a modified model. Methodology: A total of 195 Sarawak Pay users was selected using the purposive sampling technique to collect their responses through the questionnaire-based online survey. The PLS-SEM was utilised to examine the proposed hypotheses. Findings: The study found that the modified model had the greatest explanatory and predictive power than the other conventional models. Moreover, the performance expectancy, facilitating conditions and attitude positively influenced the behavioural intention and use behaviour on the Sarawak Pay, while effort expectancy had a contrary effect. Furthermore, the social influence failed to impact the Sarawak Pay users’ behavioural intention and their use behaviour. Contributions: The findings offered a clear understanding of the drivers and inhibitors that inspired the users’ behavioural intention and their use behaviour on the Sarawak Pay, as it had a critical implication for the Sarawak government. This evidence was derived from three conventional models and a modified model. Keywords: M-payment, mobile payment, unified theory of acceptance and use of technology, technology acceptance model, theory of reasoned action. Cite as: Ling, P.-S. Mohd Ossman, N. Background and Purpose: Studies on entrepreneurship gained attention only thirty years ago and had since highlighted new venture creations and the processes towards quality entrepreneurial growth. Nonetheless, past researches had overlooked e-commerce ventures as one of the aspects of the psychology of entrepreneurship. A critical element in entrepreneurship, an entrepreneur, would be responsible for the creation and establishment of new ventures with suitable personality traits, cognition and motivation. This study, therefore, aimed to describe the importance of personality traits, cognition and motivation that can impact e-commerce new ventures creations in Malaysia. Methodology: This study was designed as data for this study were collected using interviews on 12 entrepreneurs who ventured into e-commerce. These interviews were carried out from May 2013 to December 2014 using a multiple case study approach. Findings: Results from this study showed that seven personality traits, which were creativity, risk-taking, inspiration, autonomy and freedom, tolerance to ambiguity, diligence and persistence, as well as optimism, were the integral influence for new ventures in e-commerce. Cognitive aspects, such as personal background and experiences, as well as both internal and external motivation, also contributed to the creation of new ventures and developed their businesses. The need for achievement and interest were related to internal motivation, while interactions and networking with family members, customers, and industries, boosted external motivation. Contributions: It is hoped that the Malaysian government would encourage more entrepreneurial activities within the country by identifying personality traits, motivation, and cognitive factors in potential entrepreneurs to expand the creations of new ventures further that can boost the economy of the country in the future. In addition, the recommendation of future study should explore the quantitative method to examine the relationship for each variable towards new venture creation in e-commerce. Background and Purpose: English is an official language of Pakistan and it is not only taught as a subject, but it is also used as a medium of instruction in Pakistan. However, students find English language learning a difficult experience. Their difficulties are compounded by monolingual English language teaching policies and their individual differences which are linked with their motivation, level of anxiety and confidence. This study aimed at finding out the relationship between code-switching and learners’ affective response and its impacts on attaining success in ESL classrooms. Methodology: Data for this mixed method study were collected through purposive sampling via questionnaires, interviews, and field notes from the students majoring in English at a private university in Pakistan. Quantitative data is analyzed throughSPSS whereas qualitatively the data is analyzed by using constant comparative technique. Findings: The findings unveil that code-switching is an effective teaching strategy in ESL classrooms to deal with the learning of vocabulary, comprehension of abstract concepts, the performance of a difficult task, participation in classroom discussions, and the clarity of concepts. Moreover, switching to L1 also gives them satisfaction, fosters attention span, creates enjoyment, and boosts confidence, resultantly their performance improves. Contribution: The study provides implications for stakeholders including teachers, teacher trainers and policy makers to introduce pedagogical code-switching in ESL classrooms to foster the motivation and self-confidence of the students. The study concludes that though code-switching carries benefits, however, it should be used strategically to improve learners’ performance. Background and Purpose: With fund scarcity eminent in Malaysia, soliciting donations effectively is essential to any non-profit organisation (NPO). Many NPOs struggle to raise funds to execute a beneficial project for society. The dimensions to identify relevant online factors influencing the NPO website user decision-making process slowly evolved in a local context due to limited interest in exploring this field. This research was conducted to identify relevant variables related to NPO website user interest to donate. However, a proper instrument must be developed to meet the research aim. Thus, this research was conducted to identify relevant variables and items in the research instrument. Methodology: The study collected 269 responses from ten popular NPO website users. Their responses were recorded using the five-point Likert Scale questionnaire ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree. At first, the study conducted a content validity test and a pre-test. The sample size is determined based on the SEM requirement. Finally, the responses are analysed using pooled confirmatory factor analysis to determine the instrument reliability and validity. Findings: Only seven variables are retained after the validity and reliability analysis, with 43 items out of 74 items. The result indicated only information, system, service quality, perceived ease of use, and trust are relevant for the NPO to meet website user satisfaction and influence their decision to donate. Contributions: The finding is essential as a guideline to develop a website that meets user preferences. The result also contributed to the website quality literature for the non-profit sector. Background and Purpose: The initiatives to improve the students’ competency level is closely related to the quality of the lecturers. Lecturers play a very crucial role because they are responsible for teaching students of higher education institutions. A high-quality lecturer is believed to greatly influence their students’ ability and competency. This study is to identify the level of lecturers’ quality based on role-performance in teaching Mandarin in MARA Education Institutions (IPMA), specifically in Kolej Profesional MARA (KPM), Kolej Universiti Poly-Tech MARA (KUPTM) and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UNIKL). Methodology: This descriptive study used a survey method to collect data. The respondents comprise a population of students who study Mandarin as a third language course in IPMA, which is represented by Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UNIKL), Kolej Universiti Poly-Tech MARA (KUPTM), and Kolej Profesional MARA (KPM). 150 students were selected as respondents in the present study using a purposive sampling rather than random sampling. A Likert scale questionnaire is used to gather the data and SPSS software is used to statistically analyze the data. Results: Based on the mean value interpretation, the findings revealed that the lecturers’ quality on role-performance falls under a Very High level (M=4.63, SD=0.49) which simultaneously indicated that these Mandarin lecturers had the desired professional qualities and were committed to high quality teaching practice. Contributions: These findings provide a better insight into the teaching of Mandarin in tertiary level education in Malaysia and in return can help to tailor professional learning activities to the professional development needs of lecturers. Background and Purpose: Cases of child maintenance application in courts could have at least one party without counsel representation. Self-representation may lead to litigants’ inability to obtain fair outcomes in their cases. The impact of legal representation and self-representation on case outcomes has not been extensively studied. This study sought to examine whether self-represented mothers or mothers represented by lawyers were the ones who have obtained more promising outcomes in terms of the amounts of award. Methodology: This quantitative study involved 82 first instance and appeal cases decided in Syariah courts from 1969 to 2020. From these case reports, relevant data on litigants and case decisions were extracted, then statistically analysed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 26. Case reports were retrieved from Current Law Journal, Lexis Nexis, and Jurnal Hukum databases by conducting case searches using a list of search terms including nafkah anak, nafqah, and child maintenance. Findings: The finding indicated that representation for mothers did not significantly influence the total amounts of awards. Self-represented mothers were also shown to have won higher amounts in terms of their proportion to fathers’ incomes. The amounts of awards were shown to be significantly influenced by evidence relating to fathers’ incomes and child’s expenses. The amounts were higher when these details were presented, as proven by their inclusion in case reports. Self-represented mothers fared better than mothers with lawyers when these determinants were presented. Contributions: Parties and counsels will be better informed of past trend involving full, semi, and non-representation in cases involving child maintenance orders.
