ABSTRACT This study assessed the efficacy and safety of ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir (OBV/PTV/r) combined with dasabuvir (DSV) for treating hepatitis C genotype 4 (GT4) and genotype 1 (GT1) in patients with stage 4 or 5 chronic kidney disease (CKD). Among 88 patients, including treatment-naïve and Peginterferon/Ribavirin (RBV)-experienced, treated with OBV/PTV/r±RBV (dosed between 200 mg per week to daily) and additional DSV for GT1, 94.3% achieved sustained virologic response at 12 weeks (SVR12), demonstrating high efficacy. RBV was used at the discretion of the treating physician. The treatment was well-tolerated, with two non-treatment-related deaths reported. The findings suggest that a 12-week regimen of OBV/PTV/r±DSV is highly effective and safe for GT1 and GT4 patients with advanced CKD, regardless of baseline characteristics.

ABSTRACT The present study was aimed at evaluating the variations in fibrin network patterns of the platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) procured from diabetics, non-diabetics, and smokers suffering from chronic periodontitis. Five milliliters of blood were drawn using a syringe from 60 participants (systemically healthy non-diabetics, diabetics, and smokers) who were diagnosed with chronic periodontitis. Five milliliters of blood were transferred to a dry glass tube. The clot (PRF) obtained after centrifugation from the glass tube was processed for light microscopy analysis. The PRF samples have demonstrated the presence of both dense and loose fibrin networks. There is an increase in cellular content in diabetic participants compared to systemically healthy and smoker participants. Smoker participants demonstrated a higher amount of loose fibrin content, which was arranged irregularly. A significantly greater increase in cellular content and loose fibrin network is seen in diabetics and smokers, respectively, compared to systemically healthy individuals. As compared to the systemically healthy participants, there is a variation in the fibrin network pattern and distribution of cellular structures in diabetic and smoker participants.

ABSTRACT The study focuses on creating a stacking device for medical urine cups, integrating pressing, storing, and collecting mechanisms to streamline palletizing without manual intervention. This approach enhances efficiency and reduces costs. The device features a working table equipped with a pressing device at the top and a holding device below it, followed by a collecting device at the bottom. The pressing device is composed of a motor, a CAM, a pressing cylinder head, an F-shaped frame, and a large spring. This configuration ensures that the urine cups maintain their shape and are tightly stacked without damage. A rubber ring facilitates a snug fit between the shaped column and the urine cup, evenly distributing force. In addition, a small spring and push block separate the column and cup, countering inertia and enhancing stacking quality. The device thus significantly improves the palletizing process of urine cups.

ABSTRACT Afterpain is a common discomfort felt by most of the postpartum mothers which is occurred due to delayed involution. Kegel exercise and prone position enhance the involution. The aim of the study was to determine the effectiveness of Kegel exercise and prone position on afterpain among postpartum mothers. A Quasi-experimental pretest post-test with control group research design was used. Using nonprobability purposive sampling technique recruited 60 postpartum mothers who met the criteria. The level of afterpain was assessed by using visual analog scale. Experimental group was educated to do Kegel exercise for 3 days and lie in prone position for 3–5 minutes, 3 times for 3 days. Control group follows routine postnatal care posttest was conducted. The study results concluded that the afterpain mean difference was 0.53, 1.70, 1.80, and 4.03. The calculated paired t-test value of t = 5.757 between pretest and post-test 1, t = 12.420 between post-test 1 and post-test 2, t = 12.953 between post-test 2 and post-test 3, and t = 21.378 between pretest and post-test 3 was found to be statistically significant at P < 0.001 level. Therefore, Kegel exercise and prone position was effective in reducing afterpain during postpartum period.

ABSTRACT Cardiac disorders are major global death causes, necessitating emergency measures in sudden cardiac arrests. Successful cardiopulmonary resuscitation, performed by medical team members, significantly reduces death rates from cardiac arrest, a growing concern across all age groups. The study evaluates the impact of hands-on basic life support (BLS) training program on final-year students’ knowledge of BLS. A pre- and post-test study was conducted among 60 students at Saveetha College of Liberal Arts and Science. A convenient sampling technique was used to select the samples. The demographic variables were collected by using multiple-choice questionnaires. Results showed an effective level of knowledge and skill in BLS, indicating the need for further research. The study concludes that the level of knowledge and skill among final-year students of Saveetha College of Arts and Science was found to be effective in gaining knowledge regarding BLS in the post-test.

ABSTRACT The Objective of the study is to assess the effectiveness of Knack manoeuvre among women with urinary incontinence. A quasi-experimental study with a repeated measures design was used to conduct study at Saveetha Medical College Hospital. Experimental group received Knack manoeuvre for 6 months and control group received routine care. The sample size was 100, which was recruited by purposive sampling technique. The data were collected with structured questionnaire, and questionnaire for urinary incontinence diagnosis and biophysiological parameters were assessed by abdominal leak peak pressure (ALPP). The study results depict that frequency and percentage distribution of pretest and post-test level of ALPP. Between group comparison of post-test at 6 months of control and experimental showed significance (P < 0.001). There was a progressive decrease in ALPP of control and experimental groups. To our knowledge, this is the first prospective nonrandomized study that assesses the efficacy of the Knack manoeuvre on urine incontinence by assessing biophysiological parameters.
