ABSTRACT This retrospective research was directed to investigate the longevity and maintenance requirements of implant-supported prostheses in subjects treated at a tertiary care center. Patient records of individuals who received implant-supported prostheses between January 2018 and December 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Demographic information, implant type, prosthetic design, and follow-up data were collected. The primary outcomes assessed were prosthetic survival rates and the incidence of complications requiring maintenance interventions. Statistical analysis was performed to identify associations between demographic and clinical variables and the observed outcomes. The research included 150 subjects with an average follow-up duration of 3 years. The overall survival rate of implant-supported prostheses was 90%, with 20% requiring maintenance interventions. Common complications included peri-implantitis (10%), prosthetic fracture (6%), and screw loosening (4%). Significant associations were found between smoking status and peri-implantitis (P < 0.05) and between prosthetic design and prosthetic fracture (P < 0.01). Implant-supported prostheses demonstrated a high overall longevity rate, with a subset of subjects requiring maintenance interventions due to complications. Peri-implantitis, prosthetic fracture, and screw loosening were the most prevalent complications, emphasizing the importance of tailored patient care and risk stratification.

ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to assess the stigma in patients with schizophrenia attending a tertiary referral government hospital. This was a cross-sectional research involving 60 schizophrenia patients at a government tertiary referral hospital. ICD-10 research diagnostic criteria were used for mental assessment. Statistics were analyzed using relevant tests. Of the 30 males, 21 (70%) experienced moderate stigma, two (6.67%) had mild stigma, and seven (23.33%) had severe stigma. The 30 females got 20 (66.67%) moderate ratings, one (3.33%) got a light grade, and nine (30%) had severe stigma grades associated with stigma disclosure. Twenty of 30 males (66.67%) reported moderate stigma, eight (26.67%) reported mild stigma, and two (6.66%) had severe stigma. With respect to positive stigma, 25 (83.33%) of 30 females exhibited moderate stigma. Also, four (13.33%) girls exhibited moderate stigma and one (3.33%) had severe stigma. Significant proportion of patients with schizophrenia experience stigma and stigma is associated with lower level of functioning. Better knowledge about illness is associated with a lower level of stigma.

ABSTRACT Comparing fixation procedures for managing naso-orbito-ethmoidal (NOE) fractures. Group A (plate and screw fixation), Group B (Kirschner wire (K-wire) fixation), Group C (absorbable plate and screw fixation), and Group D (No fixation) were formed from 120 NOE fracture patients. The facial injury severity scale, visual analogue scale, CT scans, and clinical examination examined functional and cosmetic outcomes, complications, and postoperative stability. The study found that plate and screw fixation (Group A) had the highest stability and aesthetic results, followed by absorbable plate and screw fixation (Group C). Conservative management (Group D) had the worst outcomes, while K-wire fixation (Group B) had good results but more complications. Results showed substantial differences in functional, aesthetic, complications, and postoperative stability between groups (P < 0.05). Plate and screw fixation is the most successful and dependable approach for treating NOE fractures, with superior functional and aesthetic outcomes, reduced complications, and higher postoperative stability than K-wire fixation, absorbable plate and screw fixation, and conservative care. Absorbable plate and screw fixation may function instead of metal. Conservative care should be rare. Larger multicenter randomized controlled trials should corroborate these findings.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this in vitro investigation was to assess the effectiveness of various gutta-percha retrieval methods in endodontic retreatment. Five groups were randomly allocated to extract human teeth that had already had root canal therapy: manual files, rotary tools, heat, solvents, and ultrasonics. By evaluating the amount of filling material still present, gutta-percha clearance was quantitatively examined, and root canal cleanliness was qualitatively appraised. To compare the effectiveness of retrieval approaches, statistical analysis was done. Hand files, heat, and solvents were less effective than rotary devices and ultrasonics at removing gutta-percha (P < 0.05). A quantitative investigation showed that the groups using rotary instruments (0.87 mm) and ultrasonics (0.68 mm) had much less gutta-percha left. The qualitative evaluation revealed that rotary instruments (2.12) and ultrasonics (2.45) had greater cleaning ratings compared to other methods. In conclusion, gutta-percha can be effectively removed during endodontic retreatment by using rotary tools and ultrasonics, which provide both quantitative efficiency and qualitative purity. The implementation of sophisticated retrieval procedures to maximize treatment results in clinical practice is supported by these findings.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to estimate the effectiveness of non-laser surgery and laser surgery in the management of periodontitis. One hundred participants with a chronic periodontitis diagnosis participated in a randomized controlled experiment. Two cohorts of patients were created: Cohort B underwent non-laser surgery and Cohort A underwent laser surgery. Pre- and postoperative assessments were conducted at 3, 6, and 12 months for clinical criteria such as “pocket depth (PD), gingival index (GI), and clinical attachment level (CAL)”. There was a noticeable improvement in clinical parameters following both laser and non-laser operations. However, laser surgery showed superior results in terms of decreased PD and raised CAL. In conclusion, compared to non-laser surgery, laser surgery seems to be a more successful treatment option for periodontitis. Larger sample sizes and longstanding follow-up are required for future research in order to validate these results and evaluate the longstanding sustainability of the treatment effects.

ABSTRACT In contemporary prosthodontics, implant-supported dental prostheses are frequently utilized to restore function and esthetics for individuals who are edentulous. The prosthetic material selection has a big impact on long-term performance and maintenance needs. A retrospective review of patient files from the dental implant clinic of a tertiary care facility was done. Included were patients who had dental prosthesis supported by implants between January 2018 and December 2022. Data were gathered and examined on the prosthesis material, follow-up visits, and maintenance interventions (adjustments, repairs, and replacements). Materials for 50 prostheses made of porcelain, 45 prostheses made of acrylic, 35 prostheses made of metal, and 40 prostheses made of composite were assessed. When it came to modifications and repairs, porcelain prosthesis needed less work than acrylic prostheses. Composite prostheses required the least amount of maintenance overall, whereas metal prostheses indicated a considerable demand for maintenance. Superior durability is provided by porcelain, frequent repairs are needed for acrylic, structural strength is provided by metal, and composite material gives promising esthetics with low maintenance requirements. These results highlight how crucial it is to take material properties into account when choosing a prosthesis to maximize long-term results and patient happiness.

ABSTRACT Because of its integrated design and possible benefits over conventional two-piece systems, single-piece implant systems have grown in favor in the field of dental implantology. There is, however, still a dearth of information about their long-term stability and clinical results. The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical results, such as implant survival rates, peri-implant tissue health, and marginal bone levels, to determine the long-term stability of single-piece implant systems. About 127 individuals who got single-piece implants at the tertiary care center were the subject of a retrospective analysis. Standardized procedures were followed for implant implantation, and patients were monitored for at least five years afterward. Through radiographic analysis and clinical tests, clinical indicators such as marginal bone levels, peri-implant tissue health, and implant survival rates were evaluated. With low marginal bone loss and good peri-implant tissue health, the research showed a high implant survival rate of 96.5%. A statistical study revealed significant relationships between marginal bone loss (P < 0.01), peri-implant tissue health (P < 0.05), and implant survival. In this study, single-piece implant devices showed good long-term durability and clinical results. These results confirm its effectiveness as a dependable dental rehabilitation alternative, highlighting the significance of preserving the health of the peri-implant tissue and reducing marginal bone loss to guarantee implant success.

ABSTRACT Because of its ease and visual attractiveness, clear aligner therapy has grown in popularity as an orthodontic treatment option. On the other hand, the results of therapy may be impacted by attachment wear. Comparing attachment wear in three distinct clear aligner systems—System A, System B, and System C—was the goal of this investigation. The research comprised 60 individuals receiving clear aligners as part of their orthodontic treatment. Depending on whatever clear aligner system was being utilised, the patients were split into three groups. Attachment wear was evaluated using a standardised scoring method regularly. The various systems’ attachment wear was compared using statistical analysis. Compared to Systems B and C, System A showed less attachment wear. There were notable variations in attachment wear ratings between the systems. System C’s attachments had the most wear, whereas System A’s attachments had the least. Different clear aligner systems showed varying degrees of attachment wear, with System A exhibiting the least amount of wear. To maximise treatment procedures and guarantee treatment efficacy and longevity in clear aligner therapy, it is vital to comprehend attachment wear patterns.

The various systems’ attachment wear was compared using statistical analysis.\u0000 \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 Compared to Systems B and C, System A showed less attachment wear. There were notable variations in attachment wear ratings between the systems. System C’s attachments had the most wear, whereas System A’s attachments had the least.\u0000 \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 Different clear aligner systems showed varying degrees of attachment wear, with System A exhibiting the least amount of wear. To maximise treatment procedures and guarantee treatment efficacy and longevity in clear aligner therapy, it is vital to comprehend attachment wear patterns.\u0000","PeriodicalId":16824,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141692349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

ABSTRACT Worldwide healthcare systems, especially those that provide dental treatment, have been devastated by the COVID-19 epidemic. Future healthcare initiatives must take into account the pandemic’s effects on oral health and service consumption. The purpose of this retrospective study was to examine how the COVID-19 pandemic affected dental health and the use of dental services, with a particular emphasis on a tertiary care facility from 2017 to 2022. Descriptive analysis was performed on data gathered from patient records, including demographics, diagnoses, treatments, and service consumption. Prepandemic, pandemic, and postpandemic variations in oral health trends and service use were evaluated. During the pandemic, there was a notable decrease in emergency dental visits, whereas teledentistry consultations increased. Age and socioeconomic level are two demographic variables that have an impact on variations in oral health trends. In summary, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant influence on dental health and service consumption, underscoring the necessity of flexible approaches to deal with new issues and inequities in dental care access. This study adds insightful information to the conversation on healthcare resilience and pandemic preparedness.

ABSTRACT Significant morbidity and death are linked to sleep apnea (SP), a prevalent sleep disease. For successful management, it is essential to comprehend its prevalence and the risk factors that are linked with it. The purpose of this study was to look at the prevalence of SP in a large patient group that was visiting a tertiary care facility and to discover risk variables that are connected with it. 500 volunteers were gathered from a tertiary care center to participate in cross-sectional research. Polysomnography, clinical evaluations, and standardized questionnaires were utilized to diagnose SP and gather pertinent information. A statistical study was conducted to evaluate the correlation between different risk factors and SP. 35% of people had SP, with men between the ages of 40 and 60 having a greater frequency. It has been determined that smoking, obesity, and high blood pressure are important risk factors for SP. Compared to those with mild or moderate SP, individuals with severe SP had greater rates of smoking, hypertension, and obesity (BMI > 30). This study emphasizes how common SP is in tertiary care settings and how it is linked to smoking, obesity, and hypertension. Improving patient outcomes and lessening the impact of SP need early identification and management techniques that address these modifiable risk factors.
