This paper describes the development of a protocol transfer module for universal serial bus interface version 2.0 USB2.0-to-IEEE 1394 interface using synchronous packet control for audio and video (AV) data streams. This protocol transfer module can easily transmit AV data streams from a personal computer (PC) embedded USB2.0 interface port to a digital video camcorder (DVC) unless the AV data stream unsynchronizes between the USB2.0 and IEEE 1394 interfaces. This protocol transfer module is used for transmitting and editing AV data streams on PC and AV consumer appliances standardized with IEEE 1394. USB2.0 and IEEE 1394 interfaces are largely used for consumer electronics appliances especially home network devices. This protocol transfer module is used for AV consumer appliances standardized with IEEE 1394.

In this paper a 3-module automatic watermarking system is proposed, which embeds visually recognizable patterns to video objects (VO). During the first module efficient unsupervised video object extraction is performed. In the second module the DWT is applied to the extracted VO to produce ten subbands and three pairs of subbands are formed. Next QSWT are estimated for the pair of subbands with the highest energy content. Finally in the third module visually recognizable patterns are embedded to the coefficients of the highest energy QSWT and the IDWT is applied to provide the watermarked VO. The performance of the proposed system has been tested under various signal distortions producing very promising results.

Cable television (CATV) networks are in transition to digital two-way broadband networks. The industry has already developed devices according to the Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications (DOCSIS) or digital video broadcasting (DVB) standards for cable. Both standards are incompatible. This digest introduces a new concept for headends in CATV networks. The goal of the software headend architecture is to handle multiple standards on the same hardware platform. Architectures with flexible signal processing elements are presented and classified. Advantages of this new concept are an easy exchange of standards by setting the appropriate configuration without changing hardware and the possibility to install software headends and software terminals in any cable environment.

This paper proposes an invertible semi-fragile video watermarking algorithm using a hash function to authenticate the video contents. It can protect the video content from malicious manipulations and detect the modified part of the video. Also the proposed algorithm has the invertible property, which allows us to get the original video data back if they are authentic.

In this paper a DWT (discrete wavelet transform) based watermarking system is proposed. The proposed embedding system changes coefficients. The extracting system rebuilds thresholds according to various attacks and decides a watermark bit from the least distorted coefficient. A new measure to detect the uniqueness of watermark is also proposed.

Consumers increasingly demand high quality of service (QoS) for multimedia applications. Application-layer QoS control mechanisms that do not make specific references to coding semantics tend to provide the most robust solutions for delivery of multimedia data over bandlimited networks. We propose an adaptive and robust QoS algorithm for bandlimited networks that integrates explicit receiver-sender rate control, rate shaping with multiple quantization parameters and adaptive FEC.

In this paper, we propose a fragile watermarking scheme using a simple genetic algorithm. In order to check whether the received image maintains the same attributes as the original image, we exploit block edge characteristics of the image. We use the edge information as a fitness measure in the simple genetic algorithm for message coding. New strings are shuffled randomly and then inserted into the least significant bits of the original image. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed watermark extraction algorithm can detect any modifications of the original image.

The ever increasing complexity of automotive entertainment and information systems has necessitated a universal communication network for vehicles. Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) initiatives have focused on road and rail infrastructure, to enable telematics communications between roadway/railway, vehicles and public agencies, primarily to provide enhanced public services, such as traffic management and emergency response. While the development of infrastructure standards has been largely backed by national governments, standards for an in-vehicle bus platform to support both these enhanced services and the connectivity of consumer electronics (CE) devices have been left to the commercial market to develop. This paper discusses the standardization activities for such a network.
