The aim of this article is to examine how multiple media tools could be used for teaching a foreign language. The first part of the article is about the concept of “Media”, its history, classification and development. The second part reveals the practical use of audiovisual media in the teaching process of the foreign language. The relevance of the article consists in the complex approach to the question of modern digital media (YouTube vlogs) in foreign language learning.

The article analyses the authors’ translation experience concerning travel notes by Messerschmidt, the first German explorer of Siberia. The travel notes (Tobolsk – Tara – Tomsk, 1721) were for the first time translated into Russian. The authors proceed from language features of the text, many of which can be attributed to the period or the genre. Among translation problems, the authors emphasize complicated cases and unclear (obsolete) terms. In addition, an overlook of the used means of historical stylization is given. All observations are exemplified by numerous fragments of the original and the target text.

The article studies the reception of A.S. Griboedov in German periodicals of the XIX century. The novel study aims to analyse both topics and contexts of the references made to the Russian diplomat and playwright in the corpus of German periodicals. If offers observations on the dynamics of the Germans’ interest in his personality and creativity, defines the image of Griboedov made by the German XIXth century periodicals, its national and temporal features commented.

This article provides a brief overview of the newspaper reception of the work of emigrant writer George Grebenshchikov in the 20s. of 20th century. Particular attention is paid to the article published in the Prague Germanlanguage newspaper “Prager Presse” on January 16, 1925. The author of the article was the regular correspondent Heinrich Block, who specialized in Russian and Romanian literature. The note provides a brief description of Grebenshchikov’s work, as well as a brief review of his novels “The Churaevs” and “The Turbulent Giant”.

Digital media are spread in all spheres of our life, education is not an exception. Nowadays there are many opportunities to use digital media in German as a foreign language teaching. At the same time, teachers and also learners lack necessary digital competences. In this paper we will consider the peculiarities of the Z-generation, which influence the structure of the learning process and in this background we will also determine criteria of meaningful use of digital media in German as a foreign language lessons.
