The main purpose of this paper is to explore and identify the key factors for successfully implementing mobile commerce in businesses. We first provide an end-user perspective of mobile commerce and then a value-add-based acceptance model is proposed based on the analysis. A set of factors, which is deemed to positively affect the success, was identified, and a theoretical framework of CSF is presented.

Ubiquitous computing is the result when the technology becomes an inseparable part of our lives, but is so embedded that it disappears (Weiser, 1991). While ubiquitous computing represents a vision of the future, this vision has yet to be corroborated by the users themselves. This article investigates future expectations for ubiquitous computing according to a selection of young adults, compares this vision with prior research, and proposes a theoretical model which extends prior research. Semi-structured interviews were conducted; then the data was coded and organized according to a grounded theory approach (Glaser and Strauss, 1967), and compared with prior theory. Four overall themes emerged from the data: Device Independence, Awareness, Automation and Location Independence. The relationships between these themes were analyzed and gaps with prior research were examined. The study concludes that ubiquitous computing will require a new form of interaction as the technology becomes more pervasive and decision making becomes more automatic, that is, performed by the device/software itself. In addition to person-to-person and person-to- device interaction, ubiquitous computing, or u- commerce, means increased levels of device-to- device interaction. This will require different behaviors on the part of the user compared to that those in traditional commerce, e-commerce, and even m-commerce. How will users react to the idea that detailed personal information is being gathered about them, and that they are being "typified" by the software? Furthermore, the software must then make decisions based on its understanding of the situation, but what if these decisions are inappropriate? What types of intervention will the user require in order to feel comfortable with these automated processes? How can the user be compensated with new, value-added services for the resulting loss of control? Further empirical studies are necessary in order to explore these questions and understand their implications for future technology development and user adoption.

The two-sided coin of innovative mobile telecommunication market
Pub Date : 2006-06-26 DOI: 10.1109/ICMB.2006.45
L. Marchegiani
Technological convergence, digitalization of contents, alongside with the miniaturization of the devices have rendered the mobile phone a powerful instrument in the hand of the end-costumer. Moreover, an even greater effect has been provoked in the supply side of the market. In fact, operators urge to pay attention to the market for complementary assets. We argue in this paper that, in light of the recent innovations, the mobile telecommunication market has become a two-sided market, and that the mobile network operators should reshape their competitive behavior accordingly.

Given mobile phone penetration statistics and current mobile phone technical specifications, it is apparent that in developed countries, the majority of citizens carry not just mobile phones, but true mobile computing devices. These devices are still primarily used for telephony, although information access is slowly emerging as a popular service on these devices. Despite the availability of network connectivity and device characteristics that make Information Access possible, this is currently generally confined to accessing the WWW. While useful, this method is not the best way of providing information access to mobile devices. This paper discusses current research in the use of mobile services and proceeds by presenting a background on an infrastructure for a focused information access application for mobile commerce. Through this background, we discuss the need for embedding multi-dimensional context awareness into the design of applications that provide dedicated, targeted and personalised information access to users, and describe the dimensional vectors necessary for the acquisition of contextual information. Further to this, the paper highlights the challenges that must be overcome in obtaining contextual information on a mobile computing scenario, as required by the design we propose.

Mutual Authentication and Key Agreement for GSM GSM

We propose an efficient identity based mutual authentication scheme for GSM. In the proposed scheme, mobile station (MS) and visitor location register (VLR) authenticate each other and establish a session key to communicate securely for every communication. Our scheme requires less bandwidth and storage. The scheme does not involve certificate management and is resilient to replay and man-in-the middle attacks. We also compare the performance of our scheme with that of the existing schemes.
