I examined the relationship between algorithmic control and gig workers’ facades of conformity by investigating the underlying mechanism. Drawing on the challenge???hindrance stress model, I explored the mediating role of challenge stress and hindrance stress in this relationship. Then, by using data collected from an online food delivery platform in China, I demonstrated that hindrance stress positively mediated the relationship between algorithmic control and facades of conformity, but the mediating effect of challenge stress was not significant. This study contributes to the emerging research field of algorithmic control by not only empirically examining its effect on gig workers’ psychological and behavioral outcomes, but also exploring the underlying mechanisms between algorithmic control and gig workers’ facades of conformity. It offers a reference point and guidance for managers of gig economy enterprises.

With fierce competition in the hotel industry, an important issue is how to create a differentiating advantage and customer brand attachment through marketing tools. The purpose of this study was to explore whether green animation advertisement can positively affect green brand uniqueness and green brand attachment. We used convenience sampling to collect 386 valid questionnaires from consumers who had seen Agoda’s hotel animation advertisements. The results show that three elements of green animation advertisements (reliability, attractiveness, and informativity) positively affected the green brand uniqueness, which positively affected green brand attachment. In addition, green brand uniqueness had a mediating effect between green animation advertisement and green brand attachment. This study provides another perspective on the role of green hotels in maintaining customers’ brand attachment.

I examined the validity and reliability of the Utrecht Homesickness Scale (UHS) in the cultural background of China by translating the original UHS into Chinese. The formal scale was formed through exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and checks of internal consistency reliability and test???retest reliability. The pretest and formal test samples comprised, respectively, 436 and 687 freshmen from universities in China. The final Chinese version of the UHS had 20 items separated into five dimensions: missing family, loneliness, missing friends, adjustment difficulties, and missing home. According to the statistical results, the Chinese version of the UHS has adequate psychometric properties and can be used to assess the homesickness of college freshmen in China.

We investigated the current status and main factors of loneliness among rural left-behind children. We conducted a survey of 812 rural left-behind children in China using the Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Children’s Loneliness Scale, the Social Anxiety Scale for Children, the Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale, and the Piers-Harris Child Self-Concept Scale. Results showed that (a) 66.26% had a sense of loneliness; (b) there were correlations between loneliness and 7 sociodemographic variables, social anxiety, self-esteem, and self-concept; (c) grade, age, parental separation duration, contact frequency with parents, social anxiety, self-esteem, and self-concept were the main factors influencing the level of loneliness among rural left-behind children. Recommendations for parents and teachers are suggested.

The aim in this study was to identify how college students' experience of the online learning community influences their community identification and learning engagement. We used an online survey and the participants were 568 college students in the New Oriental English School's online learning community in China. The results indicated that three dimensions of community experience, namely, information experience, entertainment experience, and interactive experience, each exhibit significant positive associations with community identity, which, in turn contributes to students' learning engagement. Moreover, the finding confirmed the significant mediating effect of community identity between the three dimensions of community experience and learning engagement. The results give a deeper understanding of the role of community experience in influencing students' attitudes and behaviors in the context of an online learning community.

Commuting has been treated simply as a stressor in most studies, in the belief that it increases after-work recovery needs. In this study we took into account the role of different types of activity during commuting, and investigated the impact of time spent on these activities during commuting on recovery. We also examined the moderating effect of the quality of the activities. The results showed that the duration of leisure activities positively influenced recovery and that the quality of the activities strengthened this positive influence. The duration of job-related activities had a negative impact on recovery, whereas the quality of the activities weakened this negative impact. These findings show the importance of engaging in leisure activities during commuting.

In consideration of how to promote employees' work proactivity in the time frame of performance appraisals, we focused on a time-related construct called the performance appraisal interval (PAI). Drawing from psychological momentum theory, we constructed a model of the dual effect of the PAI on employees' proactive work behavior. A cross-level analysis of 561 employees from 55 groups indicated that PAI was positively related to delayed gratification, but the effect decreased gradually as time passed. Delayed gratification was positively related to proactive work behavior and mediated the relationship between PAI and proactive work behavior. Second, PAI was positively related to perceived uncertainty and the effect gradually increased over time. Perceived uncertainty was negatively related to proactive work behavior and mediated the relationship between PAI and proactive work behavior. In this study we found a compatible explanatory mechanism to integrate the positive and negative effects of a given PAI, which provides a new explanatory mechanism for stimulating proactive work behavior.

The leadership style of coaches plays a vital role in affecting athletes' psychological well-being; however, little is known about the relationship between coaches' benevolent leadership and their athletes' psychological wellbeing. The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating mechanism of caring climate in the link between benevolent leadership and psychological wellbeing. With a sample of 295 university athletes from three universities in China, we conducted structural equation modeling to test our hypotheses. The results indicated that coaches' benevolent leadership was positively related to the psychological well-being of athletes, and that caring climate mediated this relationship. Findings from this study highlight the significance of adopting benevolent leadership and creating a caring climate as a means of enhancing the psychological well-being of university athletes.

Social media marketing is being used increasingly by companies to communicate and interact with customers and influence their behavior responses. The aim in this study was to analyze the relationship between social media marketing and customers' online repurchase intention as well as the mediating mechanism of guanxi underlying that relationship. Using a paperbased survey and purposive sampling, data were collected from 363 Chinese college students who had online purchase experience through WeChat. Analysis revealed that social media marketing was positively related to customers' online repurchase intention and guanxi had a significant mediating role between social media marketing and online repurchase intention. This study can guide marketers in utilizing social media marketing to build guanxi with customers and promote their online repurchase intention.

Social interaction anxiety has become increasingly problematic among individuals who relocate to major urban areas for work, which can adversely affect their personal health and career development, leading to severe social conflicts. We used a cross-sectional survey to explore the relationship between physical activity and social interaction anxiety, by obtaining data from 453 Beijing drifters through snowball and purposeful sampling, and used Amos 26.0 to test our hypotheses by constructing a structural equation model. Results showed that physical activity was negatively correlated with social interaction anxiety. Additionally, interpersonal competence and perceived stress mediated this relationship. Drifters who frequently engaged in sports exhibited high levels of interpersonal competence and low perceived stress, and they were less likely to experience social interaction anxiety than those who did not exercise. Countries and organizations should prioritize the health status of these individuals and provide more opportunities for them and other individuals to exercise.
