The interdependence of all living things affects human health. Food is more than energy alone. There are varieties of minerals that are balanced by the body according to its needs and what it does not need is expelled. If they remain, they cause problems.

Shockwave Therapy in Atherosclerosis

The medical use of high energy extracorporeal shockwaves started in the 1980’s, when they were targeted to fragment urinary stones (lithotripsy, ESWL) and gallstones [1,2]. In addition ESWT has been used in orthopedics for musculoskeletal disorders, wound and non-union healing of fractures and the stimulation of bone growth [3-8]. The exact mechanism of action of ESWT on soft tissue is not fully understood, although the principle of mechano transduction is thought to be responsible for the biological changes that take place, Mechano transduction transfers mechanical stimuli into chemical signals at the cellular level, which activates gene expression of growth factors and cytokines as well as cell proliferation and differentiation [9]. Increased expression of growth factors such as endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and vascular endothelial growth factors (VGEFs) in soft tissue has been observed in animal studies [10-13]. Due to these findings further applications of ESWT are explored such as in atherosclerosis. One such application included the use of ESWT in ischaemic heart disease and in claudication in peripheral arterial disease. In this mini-review the recent developments in the application of ESWT in the field of atherosclerosis are discussed.

Objective: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are a group of chronic gastrointestinal system diseases of which the etiology is unknown, and where environmental and genetic factors are influential. Among IBD cases, it has been reported that approximately 1/5 of ulcerative colitis (UC) patients and 4/5 of patients with Crohn’s disease (CD) require surgical intervention. In this study, we retrospectively investigated and presented 14 cases diagnosed as IBD and urgently operated, which are rarely reported in the literature. Material and Method: We retrospectively evaluated who underwent bowel surgery for IBD. A total of 14 who underwent surgical resection of bowel with colectomy or/and segmental small bowel resection due to IBD lesions. Data were collected form Istanbul Ekin Private Pathology Laboratory and Çanakkale State Hospital were enrolled the study. Results: Of the 14 cases that were urgently operated, four (28.6%) were female, ten (71.4%) were male, and the mean age was 45.2. One of the cases (7.1%) was operated due to fistula, three (21.5%) due to perforation and ten (71.4%) due to obstruction. When the histopathological diagnosis of the cases was examined, it was seen that one case (7.1%) was CD+adenocarcinoma, one case (7.1%) was itestinal tuberculosis (tbc), and twelve cases (85.8%) were CD. Conclusion: Based on clinical and histopathological diagnosis, treatment in IBD cases should be regulated according to the localization and severity of the disease and the presence of complications. Surgical treatment should be preferred in IBD cases with inflammation despite medical treatments if remission cannot be achieved, complications such as obstruction/fistula occur, or neoplastic lesions are present.

Breastfeeding New Born in Side Lying Position – Reflecting Upon a Clinical Encounter

Breast feeding is essential to positively impact an infant’s health, nutrition, survival and growth. It is the great foundation of nourishment for an infant [1]. There are number of positions to facilitate comfortable breastfeeding. Among these positions, side lying is a position in which a woman lies laterally with the infant lying beside her. It is considered as most convenient position because it is not only fulfilling infant’s demand of being fed but it also decreases maternal discomfort after the birth. The position itself has benefits but on the same side it has risks associated with it, which should be considered while counseling mother regarding breastfeeding. In reproductive health practice at a secondary hospital of Pakistan, we were able to identify the described situation and learn few insights from the situation, when we observe and meet a 23 years old Primigravida. She was admitted at 38th week of gestation for a delivery via Caesarean section.

cases performed, present tumour neoadjuvant and staging systems There are several classification systems Abstract Colorectal carcinomas are the third most common carcinomas in men and the second most common carcinomas in women. It has also been reported that deaths due to colorectal cancers account for approximately 9% of all cancer mortalities. Because chemotherapy, radiotherapy and/or neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy are potentially beneficial during the preoperative period in terms of local control and sphincter-preserving surgery, they are particularly recommended for advanced stage carcinomas. With changing oncological treatments, care should be taken to ensure that the pathological staging of these cases are diligently and correctly performed, and pathological changes that may be present in the tumour after neoadjuvant therapy and staging systems have to be known.
