We report herein a new case of dyshidrosiform pemphigoid. Although vesiculo-bullae on palms or soles are frequent components of bullous pemphigoid, they are rare as a presenting phenomenon. In our opinion, dyshidrosiform pemphigoid should not be regarded as a distinctive form of localized pemphigoid.
Two adult males with cutaneous granular cell myoblastoma, localized on the leg and pubic area, are described. Atypical localizations of Abrikossoff's tumor are reviewed pointing out that the upper trunk is the most frequent of these localizations. Histopathogenesis of that tumour is also considered.
The authors report a case of lepromatous leprosy associated with dermatopolymyositis and gastric adenocarcinoma. The literature is reviewed and the authors discuss about this association.
A case is reported of cutaneous leishmaniasis with an ultrastructural study of the amastigote form, emphasizing and discussing the presence of two flagella inwards in the same parasite, a fact which is indicative of the great activity of the parasite in host lesions.
We present a 45 years old male with dermatomyositis refractory to eight months of standard treatment who responded to plasma exchange. The efficacy of the procedure is estimated from clinical follow-up (increase in strength) and serum creatine-kinase activity (decrease from 3,380 to 44 u/ml.) after five sessions of plasma exchange. The therapeutic indications for PE are reviewed in dermatological diseases with emphasis on cases where the response to steroids or cytotoxic drugs is inadequate.
Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) has been studied extensively, in association with visceral tumors and normal tissues. Although CEA has been demonstrated in sweat gland cutaneous tumors, little is known about its presence in skin and epithelial related tumors. We studied the presence of CEA and keratin in squamous cell and basal cell carcinoma using immunohistochemical techniques. Its distribution related with differentiation, proliferation and malignant potential is observed. The expression of both antigens is correlated.
A case of clinically characteristic hypersensitivity reaction to phenytoin in a AIDS patient with cerebral toxoplasmosis is reported. There was response to therapy with systemic steroids. Laboratory data and histopathologic features of the skin are reported.
We report a case of acne secondary to amineptine (Survector) in a 54-year-old woman. Clinical picture and relationship with excessive drug intake of this drug define this new iatrogenic acne. To our knowledge, this is the first case described in Spain.
Bowenoid papulosis is a clinical-histopathologic entity described in the last ten years. The appearance and publication of an increasing number of cases in the world literature and the advances in laboratory techniques for detection of papilloma-virus, lead to a better knowledge of its clinical picture, etiology, prognosis and therapy. Upon this basis, a therapeutic and clinical approach is suggested.
