The results of a study of the spectral, energy and field characteristics of dielectric resonators having whispering gallery modes in the millimeter range of electromagnetic waves are given. The dielectric resonators such as disks, rings and balls were made on the basis of dielectric materials with low losses (quartz, glass-ceramic, sapphire). The design of effective resonant cells for millimeter wave radiospectrometers was the main purpose of the research.

A method for measuring microwave properties of bulk and film ferroelectric materials has been developed. Waveguide is partially filled by studied material samples, whose dielectric constant /spl epsiv/ /spl sim/ 10/sup 2/ - 10/sup 3/ and losses tan/spl delta/ /spl sim/ 1-10/sup -3/ can be found from the frequency (f) dependence of S-parameters measured by network analyzer. S/sub 11/(f) or S/sub 21/(f) dependencies should be investigated in dependence on sensitivity. Studied films are deposited onto dielectric substrates, and film-on-substrate "sandwich" is centrally located in the waveguide. Software was elaborated to get this "sandwich" scattering parameters, from which film /spl epsi/ and tan/spl delta/ can be calculated. Proposed method of the film investigation requires no electrode deposition, so film dielectric constant and loss might be obtained at various stages of film processing.

The problem of predicting, by computer-aided means, the complex phenomena observable in the dynamic response of microwave injection-locked pulsed-oscillators (ILPO) under both continuous-wave and modulated input signal drive is addressed. The proposed method makes use of characterization data taken on ILPO under both short- and long-pulse (or non-pulsed) sinusoidal operation in order to derive a nonlinear differential model in the stroboscopic time domain capable of describing the behaviour of the injection-locked oscillator under all operating conditions, including the undriven one with its associated intra-pulse amplitude and frequency variation (chirp). The experimental verification results presented show that the proposed characterization and modeling approach not only reduces the complexity of the model identification phase with respect to standard, equivalent-circuit based, methods, but also permits one to couple an excellent computational efficiency to a reasonably good simulation accuracy in predicting the ILPO response to real-world input signals.

Presents the results of experimental check of passive radio extender efficiency within cellular communication networks. There are several possible ways of communication assurance when mobile station (MS) is out of the coverage area of the base station (BS). The first of them offers microcell application, when two antennas are used along with the other BS equipment. The second method assumes the use of personal high-elevation direct antenna and antenna adapter, which is connected directly to the MS. In several cases passive radio extender (PRE) can be used in order to provide communication for a small local group of MS.

A dielectric resonator filter using a planar dielectric resonator (PDR) is described in this paper. The topology of the filter allows a high integration in a planar environment and has good characteristics. The possibility of shifting the resonant frequency of the PDR is described and a tunable UHF filter based on that resonator is investigated and the results are given.

Theoretically, in quasi-static approximation a distributions of MW voltages and currents along strip conductors of resonators of the two-pole microstrip filter having stubs are investigated. It is shown that two of the lowest modes participate in forming the filter pass-band, and the third lowest mode provides a rejection at a slope of transmission band.
