During mushroom surveys (2017 to 2022) of moist temperate forests of Pakistan, five different collections of Hydnum were found. Morpho-anatomical and phylogenetic analysis of the internal transcribed spacer (nrITS) of these specimens revealed one species new to science (Hydnum khanspurense sp. nov.) and one new record for Pakistan (Hydnum berkeleyanum). Hydnum khanspurense sp. nov. is characterized by non-decurrent spines, relatively smaller basidiospores and basidia with 1–4 sterigmata, along with ITS region divergence from the closest related species of subgenus Pallida, H. pallidomarginatum and H. flabellatum. Similarly, H. berkeleyanum, a member of subgenus Hydnum, was confirmed for the first time in Pakistan on the basis of micro-morphological and phylogenetic analysis. Detailed phylogenetic analysis confirming their systematic positions and morpho-anatomical studies of these taxa are provided and illustrated.

We determined the phylogenetic position and clarified the morphological structure of scales and bristles of the widespread taxon Mallomonas matvienkoae Asmund & Kristiansen. The available images of M. matvienkoae scales published in floristic works from different regions of the world refer to different morphotypes. Molecular data show heterogeneity in the M. matvienkoae species complex. Therefore, a revision of this complex is required, including the establishment of the phylogenetic position and morphological type of scales and bristles of M. matvienkoae. While studying chrysophytes in Russia, we isolated and studied a strain of the genus Mallomonas. The structure of its scales is similar to the image shown in the description of M. matvienkoae. Based on material from Russia, we selected an epitype and emended the diagnosis of this taxon. Establishing the phylogenetic position and distinguishing the morphological type will help to revise numerous finds of similar morphotypes and genetic lineages previously identified as M. matvienkoae, but with obvious morphological and molecular differences from this taxon.

A new species of Clematis (Ranunculaceae) from the Southern Brazilian Plateau is described here. The species shares similarities with C. denticulata and C. ulbrichiana, but can be distinguished mainly by the staminate partial inflorescences in compressed cymes (false whorls), pyriform staminate flower buds, and fewer carpels. Along with the description, we provide a preliminary extinction risk assessment and photographic plates for the new species. Identification keys for the species in the Atlantic Forest Biome are also presented.

A comprehensive review of the name Polygala ovata Poiret (1804), basionym of the widely used Asemeia ovata, revealed strong evidence to an alternative interpretation of this name as used by Pastore and Abbott in their Asemeia treatment in 2012. Issues arise from discrepancies between Poiret’s identification in specimens kept in P herbarium as P. ovata, and the original specimen of Nectoux from the Dominican Republican. De Candolle promoted the first attempted to resolve the application of Polygala ovata, however he had different approaches, when included this name in Prodromus, and later in the specimen identification as P. ovata. The present study reevaluates P. ovata identity based on original herbarium specimens, protologue information and original morphological description. The evidence found supports reclassifying P. ovata as a member of genus Hebecarpa instead, and therefore a new combination is proposed here, along with a morphological plate and taxonomic and distribution notes.
