Angular correlations between produced high-p TΞ− baryons and unidentified charged and neutral particles are observed in high-tower triggered (on a large electromagnetic energy deposit) √s=200 GeV p+p collisions. This trigger favors events with higher average multiplicity than those in minimum bias. These events are likely to contain jets. The average multiplicity of a high-tower triggered event is similar to that of a minimum bias event containing a Ξ baryon, which implies that Ξ baryons are likely to be produced in jets. Ξ− is higher in the triggered data then in the minimum bias sample.

The NA57 experiment has measured the pT distributions of KSO, Λ, and (bar Lambda ) particles in fixed-target Pb−Pb interactions at √sNN=17.3 GeV, as a function of the collision centrality. In this paper we study the central-to-peripheral nuclear modification factors and compare them to other measurements and to theoretical predictions.

After a short summary of the predictions of the Parton Quenching Model (PQM) for the nuclear modification factor and its centrality dependence in Au−Au collisions at RHIC, we concentrate on back-to-back jet-like correlations at high transverse momentum. We illustrate how this probe is biased by the surface effect.

We investigate two-quark correlations in hot and dense quark matter. To this end we use the light front field theory extended to finite temperature T and chemical potential μ. Therefore it is necessary to develop quantum statistics formulated on the light front plane. As a test case for light front quantization at finite T and μ we consider the NJL model. The solution of the in-medium gap equation leads to a constituent quark mass which depends on T and μ. Two-quark systems are considered in the pionic and diquark channel. We compute the masses of the two-body system using a T-matrix approach.

Light-front quantization to many-particle systems of finite temperature and density provides a novel approach towards a relativistic description of quark matter and allows us to calculate the perturbative as well as the non-perturbative regime of QCD. Utilizing a Dyson expansion of light-front manybody Green’s functions we have so far calculated three-quark, quark-quark and quark-antiquark correlations that lead to the chiral phase transition, the formation of hadrons and color superconductivity in a hot and/or dense environment. Presently, we use an effective zero-range interaction, to compare our results with the more traditional instant form approach where applicable.

This paper presents the most recent nuclear k T measurements from STAR derived from multi-particle jet reconstruction of d+Au and p+p collisions at √s=200 GeV. Since jets reconstructed from multiple particles are relatively free of fragmentation biases, nuclear k Tcan be measured with greater certainty in this way than with traditional di-hadron correlations. Multiparticle jet reconstruction can also be used for a direct measurement of the fragmentation function.

Knowing whether a hadron is formed inside or outside the nuclear medium is very important for correctly interpreting jet quenching in heavy-ion collisions. The cleanest experimental environment to study the space-time evolution of hadronization is semi-inclusive DIS on nuclear targets. 2 frameworks are presently competing to explain the observed attenuation of hadron production: quark energy loss, with hadron formation outside the nucleus [2, 3], and nuclear absorption with hadronization starting inside the nucleus [4–6]. I demonstrate that the observed approximate A2/3 scaling of experimental data cannot conclusively establish the correctness of either energy loss or absorption.

We study the dynamical appearance of scaling solutions in relativistic hydrodynamics. The phase transition effects are included through the temperature dependent sound velocity. If a pre-equilibrium transverse flow is included in the initial conditions, then it may reach the form of the asymptotic Hubble flow, r/t, in short evolution times, 7–15 fm. The numerical solutions are found to support the freeze-out models (Blast-Wave, Buda-Lund, Cracow).

We present preliminary results from intermediate pT(1–5 GeV/c) di-hadron azimuthal correlations induced by hadronic di-jets produced in AuAu collisions at √sNN=200 GeV. The near-side (Δϕ∼0) has a typical singlepeaked structure which broadens with the centrality of the collision. A qualitatively new phenomenon shows up in the shape of the away-side (Δϕ∼π): it has a symmetric, double-peaked structure in central and mid-central collisions.
