Monitoring of breathing tube position and patency in situ using reflected sound 利用反射声原位监测呼吸管位置和通畅

A new technique that acoustically interrogates an intubated breathing tube to yield clinically useful patency and position information was developed. A miniature speaker connected to the proximal tube end generates a sonic pulse that propagates down the tube, and the resulting echoes from within the tube and airways are measured by a miniature microphone. During intubations of anesthetized canines, the technique: 1) reliably differentiated between tracheal, bronchial, and esophageal intubations; 2) accurately quantified tube movements; 3) provided the location and degree of lumenal obstructions; and 4) detected extubation or disconnection from the ventilator hose. This technique offers an inexpensive and noninvasive mechanism to monitor breathing tubes in situ.

QRS detection using a fuzzy neural network QRS检测采用模糊神经网络

We developed a QRS detection algorithm which uses a fuzzy neural network (FNN) to process lead II recordings of the ECG. We trained and tested our algorithm using the MIT/BIH arrhythmia database, and compared our results to existing algorithms. For tapes 100, 105 and 108, our FNN reduced the total number of combined false-positive and false-negative detections from 174 to 44.

Describes a technique for capturing wound characteristics with a laser surface scanning system. Analysis using both range and color information from this image is used to measure specific wound features. Artificial neural networks for estimation of joint angle from EMG signals 基于肌电信号的关节角度估计的人工神经网络

A set of neural networks was developed for EMG based control of telemanipulators. The neural network system provides an estimate of the joint angle at the elbow using surface EMG of biceps in real time. The joint angle was measured by a goniometer to calibrate the system and train the networks. Preliminary results during testing indicate an error of less than 20% between the joint angle estimate of the network and the actual joint angle.

Describes a novel method of urea and ammonia removal using microencapsulated genetically engineered E. coli DH5 cells. In vitro, 100 mg of bacterial cells encapsulated in alginate-polylysine-alginate (APA) membrane, in their log phase state of growth, can lower 87.89/spl plusmn/2.25% of the plasma urea within 20 minutes and 99.99% in 30 minutes. The same amount of encapsulated bacteria is also capable of lowering ammonia from 975.14/spl plusmn/70.15 /spl mu/M/L to 81.151/spl plusmn/7.37 /spl mu/M/L in 30 minutes. This new approach is significantly more efficient than the presently available methods of urea and ammonia removal.

The deformity plane determination and shape approximation of long bones from bi-planar radiographic 长骨双平面x线片的畸形面测定和形状近似

A new procedure to determine the deformity plane for long bone from bi-planar radiographic and to approximate its shape on that plane is developed. This procedure can be used for the preoperative planning of angular deformity correction of long bones, especially the tibia or femur. The bone outline obtained in this procedure is used for the authors' Preoperative Planning System for angular deformity correction planning. By using this procedure, the third radiographic on the actual deformity plane can be omitted.

A 8-channel dedicated microprocessor for externally powered implantable pain control stimulator is presented. It is designed with 8 channels to deliver the stimuli: any subset out of 8 channels can be started or stopped simultaneously. Arbitrary current waveforms can be generated through appropriate programming which can be achieved by an algorithm serially transmitted transdermally. The microprocessor can be configured as biphasic or monophasic or mix operation mode. Particularly, the charge balanced biphasic pulses are easily generated. The design is accomplished with Verilog HDL language description at RTL level. The resulting schematic or netlist is then automatically placed and routed by Preview Cell Ensemble with the 1.5 micron Mitel process.

Calculation of microwave radiometric signal in multilayered biological tissue 多层生物组织中微波辐射信号的计算

A spatial distribution of radiometer input transfer function in a three-layered human body is calculated by the numerical finite-difference time domain method. The examples for different radiometer input parameters and measurement methods are calculated and examined by experiment. The results of numerical modelling are applied for design of a 4.5 GHz microwave radiometer for breast cancer detection.

ANIA: a tool for angiographic image analysis and study ANIA:用于血管造影图像分析和研究的工具

The main reason for lumen reduction of the arteries is lipid accumulation in their walls. Diagnosis of this disease is possible by the application of image analysis techniques. A tridimensional representation of the coronaries (arteries that perfuse the heart muscle) is needed for their precise evaluation. The present research proposes a tool to evaluate 2D and 3D processing algorithms from angiographic images. ANIA (Angiographic Image Analyzer) is developed on a Silicon Graphics platform, in Object Oriented Programming, and represents an alternative tool for improving the study of the coronaries.

Noninvasive fiber optic measurement of carotid to radial apparent phase velocity in hypertensive subjects 无创光纤测量高血压患者颈动脉至桡动脉视相速度

Foot-to-foot pulse wave velocity has been popularly used in the clinical assessment of the local elastic properties of arteries. The apparent phase velocity (c/sub app/) however contains considerable more information about vascular interaction. We investigated this latter noninvasively in normal and hypertensive subjects by means of a pair of matched fiber optic sensors applied to carotid and radial arteries. Results show that c/sub app/ is higher at low than at high frequencies and with larger amplitudes and oscillations in hypertensives.
