Predicting failures in auditory detection from changes in the EEG spectrum 从脑电图谱的变化预测听觉检测失败

Humans' ability to maintain constant level of performance in low-arousal task environments is limited. This paper shows that characteristic multi-minute and 15-20 sec fluctuations in the EEG spectrum accompanying fluctuations in behavioral alertness can be used to estimate or predict individual responses in an auditory detection task.

A dynamical model of the head with neck reflex control 具有颈部反射控制的头部动力学模型

We have developed a horizontal plane head movement model to explore the interactions of the vestibulocollic (VCR) and cervicocollic (CCR) reflexes during trunk perturbations. The model was constructed utilizing parametric identification with physiological and biomechanical data. Control systems analyses enabled us to explain complex frequency response characteristics and assign functionality to these neck reflexes.

Digital image processing for three dimensional reconstruction 用于三维重建的数字图像处理

Membrane wall models occur in studies of respiratory and cardiovascular mechanics. To obtain the properties of elastomer and soft tissue membranes, and to validate numerical simulations, we need surface deformation information. This study examines an imaging method for reconstructing static surfaces. Rigid calibration and test objects, together with a latex membrane have grid lines drawn on them. They are photographed with a CCD camera, directly and through a mirror. The reconstructed locations of the grid crossing points are accurate for the rigid objects, and fitting a quadratic function to the membrane data provides information about surface stretch and shape.

Development of a PC based PACS open to ISDN and Internet for research purposes 基于PC机的面向ISDN和Internet的PACS的开发

Picture archiving and communication systems (PACSs) are a part of the image manipulation function in a medical environment. This paper explains the development of a PC-based PACS composed of three workstations for image acquisition, archiving and communication, and one for consultation and processing. The DICOM (Digital COmmunication in Medicine) file format is used for archiving. In the second phase of this work, we will install a PC to link the PC-PACS to external workstations via ISDN. Also, an HP 9000 workstation will link the PACS to the Internet.

Detection of neural action potentials is an essential phase in the analysis of extracellular recordings and it may contribute to the control of prosthetic systems. A fully automated algorithm for on-line detection or neural waveforms is presented and a hardware implementation for 8-channel, real-time operation is described.

Relationship between vigilance levels and characteristics of saccadic eye movement 警惕水平与跳眼运动特征的关系

The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility for evaluating vigilance levels using a parameter of saccadic eye movement. EEG was measured and analyzed by means of fast Fourier transform, and the spectral power of /spl alpha/ and /spl beta/ wave bands were obtained so as to extract [/spl beta/]/[/spl alpha/+/spl beta/] which was assumed to reflect vigilance levels. Eye movement was measured so as to calculate saccadic peak velocity (SPV) and relative SPV (RSPV) which was normalized by the mean SPV at the corresponding amplitude of saccade. The relationship between [/spl beta/]/[/spl alpha/+/spl beta/] and RSPV was investigated and it revealed that RSPV decreased according to the decline in the vigilance level. This indicates the possibility for evaluating vigilance levels using RSPV.

Using domain decomposition and priority queue integration scheme to solve two-dimensional model of myocardium 采用区域分解和优先队列积分方案求解二维心肌模型

The two-dimensional propagation model based on the Luo-Rudy phase II membrane model is limited by its great computational cost. To reduce this cost and allow large realistic models the authors developed a new numerical method based on domain decomposition and priority queue integration scheme (DDPQ). The new method offers stable solutions with relative errors less than 1% and computation time saving by a factor of 10 to 20, allowing much larger models based on realistic membrane kinetics and realistic dimensions to simulate reentry, triggered activity and their interactions.

Tripolar nerve cuff recording: stimulus artifact, EMG and the recorded nerve signal 三极神经袖记录:刺激伪影、肌电图和记录的神经信号

Properties of nerve cuff recording electrodes were analyzed. Tripolar cuff electrodes have to be described essentially different for (propagating) nerve signals inside the cuff, and electrical muscle activity and stimulus artifacts arising from sources outside the cuff. It was experimentally shown that the signals originating outside the cuff are differently and much stronger influenced by the addition of a balancing resister to the outer cuff electrodes than the nerve signal.

Modulation of intrinsic and reflex contributions to dynamic ankle stiffness with the level of voluntary contraction 调节内在的和反射的贡献动态踝关节僵硬与自愿收缩的水平

A parallel-cascade system identification method was used to identify intrinsic and reflex contributions to dynamic ankle stiffness at different levels of tonic voluntary contractions. Intrinsic stiffness dynamics were well modeled by a linear second-order system relating intrinsic torque to joint position. Reflex stiffness dynamics were accurately described by a linear, third-order system between half-wave rectified velocity and reflex torque. Intrinsic stiffness gain increased with the level of tonic contraction in the ankle extensors (gastrocnemius-soleus). Reflex gain decreased with the level of contraction while reflex-EMG gain increased. This suggests reflex contributions are more significant at low levels of activity.

On-line neuromorphic biomedical waveform analysis 在线神经形态生物医学波形分析

Addresses the real-time and on-line processing of clinical patient waveform patterns so as to improve critical-care maintenance in anesthesiology. The authors demonstrate that patient waveform pattern interpretation is achieved via a neuromorphic approach. This is primarily attributed to a neural networks ability to adaptively learn from examples. The authors utilized four distinct data sets (each containing a hundred patterns) encompassing patients vital clinical breathing patterns (i.e. hypocapnia, hypoventilation, and curare cleft) to train their network. Each pattern featured a base, ascending, plateau, and descending lines. The test and training data sets were obtained from actual strip-chart recordings. The Neuromorphic System (Neuro-Sys) was trained to correctly classify all of twenty-one unique clinical breathing patterns within a ten percent error-tolerance.
