The paper seeks to explore, from a post-colonial perspective, the issues of ‘ambivalence’ as adapted into colonial discourse theory by Homi K. Bhabha, perceived in the protagonist Jones in Eugene O'Neil's play: The Emperor Jones. The study attempts to place the subjectivity of the central character, which is apparently and temporarily in the centre of the hegemonic circle, in the margins of it where it actually belongs. It surveys the problems of cultural appropriation as well as ghettoisation relevant to both Jones and Smithers, the only two characters with individual identity in the play. The paper finally looks into the complexities of the psyche of Jones as a representative of them, face to face with history and unable to escape from the trappings of a colonial past.

The paper uses participatory research to explore the extent of financial inclusion in two villages in Northeastern Bangladesh. It also uses Findex database to draw a comparative image of financial access in Bangladesh and other parts of the world. While Bangladesh data on financial inclusion exhibit financial capacity of the market, participatory evidence shows financial capability of the service receivers. Review of literature, secondary data and participatory evidences show that there are substantial financial gaps across the economies and within the households. In rural context, it is evident that financial access is low in developing countries like Bangladesh.

Elderly abuse and exclusion is becoming a critical social concern and problem. However, it went unnoticed from the public view since it was considered mostly a very personal family-related matter. Usually elderly abuse occurs with little recognition or response. Even today, elderly abuse continues to be a taboo, mostly unreported and ignored by societies across the world. However, in past one decade elderly abuse and exclusion has emerged as an important social problem and public health issue.
