Abstract: Of the main factors that influence faculty experiences, job satisfaction has received significant attention from scholars. However, very little research has focused on the arts, with no studies examining the impact of these factors on theatre faculty. Using a national survey that included open-ended questions and was completed by 153 faculty in the spring of 2022, we evaluated factors specifically important for theatre faculty job satisfaction. We examined the qualitative data through thematic analysis, and the results showed that clear and reasonable criteria for tenure and promotion, mentorship, department chairs, collegiality, work load, and campus climate all affect morale and theatre faculty job satisfaction. The specific suggestions we provide on how to improve faculty experiences can guide institutional leadership in their efforts to create welcoming, supportive, diverse, and inclusive environments.

Abstract: The creation of the Disability, Theatre, and Performance (DTaP) Focus Group at the ATHE Conference 2023 marks a crucial step for inclusivity in academia and the arts for disabled scholars and artists. Despite facing obstacles, DTaP initiated effective efforts and garnered support from other focus groups at the 2023 conference. However, limitations and accessibility issues at the conference revealed ongoing challenges faced by disabled participants, highlighting the persistent barriers they encounter. This milestone founding represents progress, yet it also underscores the continued struggle for equitable representation and recognition.

Abstract:In partnering with occupational therapy (OT) degree programs to enhance students' preparedness for the field, the applied theatre in education company, Theatre in Tandem, implemented sessions utilizing the applied theatre forms of structured improvisation and role-play to rehearse the profession. This piece documents learning possibilities found in the unpredictability of these theatre conventions: supporting the classroom curriculum, navigating realistic interactions in simulated scenarios, and creating space for the students to negotiate ambiguity as they made connections between the classroom learnings and the professional field.
