Osmoderma eremita and Cerambyx cerdo are saproxylic beetle species, included in the IUCN Red List and in the EU/92 Habitats Directive. Their occurrence has been recorded, through appropriate traps, in several localities in Italy, including urban and peri-urban parks, mostly associated with veteran trees. In this study, traps were tested over 17 veteran oak trees in the Castelporziano Presidential Estate (Latium, Rome province, central Italy) and the abundance of sampled saproxylic beetles was related to the growing stock volume (GSV) and the abundance of microhabitats. Moreover, we compared three different trapping methods: a trap designed to monitor C. cerdo (CC), and two traps designed for monitoring O. eremita, i.e., the Black Cross Window Trap (BCWT) and the Black Bottle Traps (BBT). We found that larger trees hosted a great variety of microhabitats, in particular cavities, which abundance was correlated with the number of specimens sampled, especially O. eremita species. Both classic traps (i.e., CC traps and BCWT) and the herein-introduced BBT variants were effective for capturing large saproxylic beetles. In this work, we underline the importance of the preservation of veteran trees to the occurrence of threatened saproxylic beetles, and we contributed to (i) extending general knowledge of the habitat preferences of saproxylic beetles and (ii) improving new cost-effective trapping system variants. Key Words: Osmoderma eremita, Cerambyx cerdo, IUCN threatened species, Tree-related Microhabitat, urban and peri-urban areas, veteran trees

Macrohomotoma gladiata (Kuwayama) (Hemiptera: Homotomidae) has been recently recorded in the Medi- terranean Basin causing serious damage on the widely cultivated ornamental tree Ficus microcarpa L.f. The population structure and seasonal fluctuation of M. gladiata were studied on F. microcarpa in Athens, Greece, from February 2019 to February 2020. In the samples, the presence of its natural enemies was recorded too. Eggs were recorded in May, August and from October to early January; the first two nymphal instars were recorded throughout the year but not in August and September whereas their densities reduced in early May; the middle-aged and the late instars nymphs were recorded in March and April and then appeared again in June and July. Based on our results 1) during winter, only young nymphs of M. gladiata were present; 2) under autumn and winter conditions, young nymphs do not develop further; and 3) most likely M. gladiata has a bivoltine life cycle or may complete a partial third generation in autumn. Parasitized M. gladiata nymphs by a Psyllaephagus Ashmead species were recorded from April to August, with the parasitism rate reaching to 81%. The predator Anthocoris nemoralis (Fabricius) (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) was present in low numbers in spring. This work revealed useful information for the phenology and rational management of this pest and the potential of its natural enemies in its control. Key Words: Macrohomotoma gladiata, Ficus microcarpa, life cycle, biological control, Anthocoris nemoralis, Psyllaephagus

Long term monitoring programs (LTMPs) are increasingly demanded for investigating relationships between ecosystem dynamics and climate change. Most of active LTMPs are focussed on abiotic parameters and vegetation, being animals rarely included in continuous samplings. In this paper we described the results of the first two years of a LTMP involving nocturnal macrolepidoptera (including Cossoidea and Hepialoidea) started in 2019 in a suburban area of the Crati Valley, Calabria, South Italy. In the experimental farm of the Research Centre for Forestry and Wood two light traps were settled up, running about every night. During the first two years of monitoring, a total of 12,164 individuals belonging to 297 taxa were counted, showing a community similar to those observed in other Calabrian sites with Mediterranean climate and cultivated areas. The presence of small remnants of riparian forests significantly contributed to the community composition as the observation of hygrophilous species demonstrated. Among them, Xanthia ocellaris and Leucania obsoleta were never found before in the Calabria region. Furthermore, 177 species were added to the poorly investigated Crati Valley fauna. The results presented pose a solid baseline for investigating ecosystem changes of an area submitted to short term anthropic pressures and to long term climate driven changes. Insect infestations are considered one of the major problems causing enormous economic losses in stored grains. Laboratory bioassays were performed to establish the mortality induced by the commercially available Beauveria bassiana strain ATCC74040 (formulated product: Naturalis®) and by Metarhizium anisopliae strain CIST8 against four stored products pests. Adults of four grain and legume pest species (Cathartus quadricollis, Callosobruchus maculatus, Sitophilus granarius, and Oryzaephilus surinamensis) were exposed in laboratory assays to three different concentrations (103, 105 and 107/mL) of each entomopathogenic fungal strain. For each insect species, fungal strain and concentration, the mortality was recorded daily over a period of 7 days. Mean survival time and final cumulative mortality were determined, and 7-day mortality curves were established. A significant effect of insect species, fungal strain, and conidial concentration was observed on the 7-day mortality curves and the final cumulative mortality. Also, the mean survival time varied significantly with the conidial concentration. In addition, a significant interaction between insect species and fungal strain was recorded for all three assessed parameters. In general, at all tested concentrations, B. bassiana strain ATCC 74040 caused higher mortality than M. anispliae strain CIST8 in all four insect species. Notes on the presence of the Omnivorous Leafroller, Platynota stultana (Lepidoptera Tortricidae), in Italy and its presence and interception in other European countries are reported. Geographical distributions and principal morphological and biological characters are illustrated. Considering the wide host range of P. stultana, this pest has the potential to damage many cultivated and wild plants in the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO) region. Its interception in England, the Netherlands, and Germany and its introduction into Spain and Italy clearly demonstrates that it has the potential to enter and establish itself in the Southern and Mediterranean parts of Europe. Key Words: Platynota stultana, Lepidoptera Tortricidae, Italy, Europe, pest risk.

Gibbomyzus is recorded for the first time in South America; it was known in Costa Rica and Mexico. Gibbomyzus favreti sp. n. is described from apterous and alate viviparous females collected in Salta and Jujuy provinces (Argentine Northwest) on Jungia polita Griseb. (Asteraceae) and on an unidentified species of climbing dicot. It is the second species of Gibbomyzus Nieto Nafría, Pérez Hidalgo, Martínez-Torres and Villalobos Muller, 2013 (Aphididae, Aphidinae, Macrosiphini). The differences between Gibbomyzus and Delfinoia Nieto Nafría & Mier Durante, 2017 are provided, the latter genus being established after Gibbomyzus. The features that allow differentiating G. favreti sp. n. from the type species of the genus, G. pteridophytorum, are also provided. The possibility that other species of Gibbomyzus are still to be discovered is commented on. Key Words: Gibbomyzus, Aphididae, new species, South America, Argentina, Jungia polita.
此外,还提供了能够将广毛蕨属(G.favriti sp.n)与该属的模式种(G.pterdophytorum)区分开来的特征。文章还对长臂猿属其它物种有待发现的可能性进行了评述。关键词:长臂猿,蚜科,新种,南美洲,阿根廷,Jungia polita。

Olive (Olea europaea L.) is a traditional crop of great socioeconomic importance in the Mediterranean Basin. In 2021, a survey was performed in an Italian nursery located in Central Italy where unusual symptoms and widespread dieback had been observed on young potted olive trees. Twigs and branches of all plants affected by dryness showed the presence of the alien bark beetle Xylosandrus compactus. Woody tissues colonized by X. compactus were transferred into the laboratory and several fungi such as Cladosporium perangustum and Neofusicoccum parvum were then identified. In addition to these species, Geosmithia pallida was also reported for the first time in Italy on this plant. Studies on this bark beetle and its associated fungi are currently in progress to further evaluate potential risks for olive cultivation. Key Words: Olea europea, fungi, bark beetles.
