Xylosandrus compactus and Liparthrum colchicum are two Scolytinae recorded for the first time in Italy in 2011 and 2019, respectively. X. compactus is an “ambrosia beetle” causing damages to several plants typical of the Mediterranean maquis through its digging activity on twigs and branches of the host plants. L. colchicum is a “bark beetle”, monophagous on laurel shrubs and trees. During a survey performed in summer of 2020, in “Tenuta Salviati” located in the Migliarino Natural Park (Pisa, Tuscany), adults of X. compactus and L. colchicum were collected from the same branches and apical twigs of Laurus nobilis hedges. The study aimed at characterizing fungi isolated from the external surface of the two scolytids bodies, to evaluate similarities and even their role in fungal spreading in the environment.

The harlequin ladybird Harmonia axyridis (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) is one of the most common invasive alien species in the world, which has a global impact on biodiversity and agriculture, and causes economic loss and harm to humans. This insect can be infected by different natural enemies, but their interactions remain understudied. In the present study, 581 adult Ha. axyridis specimens were collected from 21 localities in Hungary with the help of citizen scientists and examined for natural enemies. The parasitic nematode Parasitylenchus bifurcatus (Nematoda: Allantonematidae) is reported in Hungary on the harlequin ladybird for the first time. The ladybirds were also infected by the ectoparasitic fungus Hesperomyces virescens (Ascomycota: Laboulbeniales) and parasitoid Dinocampus coccinellae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae). The nematode parasite was present in all localities where Hesperomyces-infected ladybirds appeared. The prevalence of recorded natural enemies varied by locality: for P. bifurcatus it ranged from 1% to 8%; for He. virescens from 2% to 36%; and for the parasitoid it was 4%. Besides, a statistically significant positive correlation was shown between the nematode and the fungus co-infection using Spearman’s correlation. A study on the multiparasitism of harlequin ladybirds was not yet performed in Hungary. The study area is located between two distant areas in Europe where co-infections had already been observed, indicating that this is probably not a sporadic phenomenon, but that parasitism of the harlequin ladybird by multiple natural enemies might be prevalent throughout the area.
瓢虫也被外寄生真菌Hesperomyces virescens(子囊菌门:Laboulbeniales)和寄生蜂Dinocus coccinelae(膜翅目:茧蜂科)感染。

Ricania speculum is an alien insect feeding on several host plants belonging to several families, including important vegetables, crops, ornamental plants, wild plants as well as trees. For the first time, recently, Chrysoperla sp. and coccinellid beetles have been observed preying on this species in the field on Citrus sp. and Laurus nobilis plants. The main purposes of this work were to evaluate the possible predation capability of these groups of insects and determine their prey preference in laboratory trials. In the choice trials, R. speculum nymphs were paired in a confined space and exposed for 24h to single predators: Ch. carnea complex and to the coccinellids Cryptolaemus montrouzieri, Adalia bipunctata, Coccinella septempunctata, and Propylea quatuordecimpunctata. Specimens of Aphis rumicis, an aphid frequently found on her baceous plants, were used as a control prey. In the cage trials, a single Ch. carnea complex second-instar larva was placed into a jar containing a tomato plant with ten R. speculum nymphs. In the choice trials, a high mortality percentage of both preys was observed with the Ch. carnea complex, while in those with Coccinellids only high A. rumicis mortality was reported. In the cage trials, 13% mortality of R. speculm was recorded after 24h while after 72h and 168h prey mortalities reached 18% and 25%, respectively. The results of the study showed that larvae of the Ch. carnea complex could be potential predators of R. speculum, while coccinellids do not seem promising predators of this alien species.

Several new records for 22 taxa of moth flies from Italy are presented. Among them, Clytocerus (Boreoclytocerus) dalii (Eaton, 1893) and Pericoma (Pericoma) pannonica Szabó, 1960 are new to the Italian fauna. The other taxa represent new regional records, chiefly from central Apennine. Distribution of each species is provided, together with ecological and taxonomic remarks, where relevant. The name pseudoexquisita Tonnoir, 1940, in Pericoma Walker, 1856, is found to be an incorrect subsequent spelling, hence unavailable. The correct original spelling is pseudexquisita Tonnoir, 1940.

Ozognathus cornutus(LeConte, 1859) is recorded on the invasivealien tree Robinia pseudocacia L.(Fabaceae) in an urban areain Italy. The species has already been reported in two other Italian regions, but this is the first record for the Sardinian fauna. Due to the great adaptability of this alienspecies and the increasingly cosmopolitan trend, we suggest monitoringit with caution forearly detection and to plan an appropriate rapid management response.

The vector‐borne bacterium Xylella fastidiosa(Wells and Raju) causes several serious diseases to plants. Recently, different subspecies of X. fastidiosa were reported in some European countries. The risk of the bacterium’s spread on the entire European territory is very high; therefore, it has been added into the priority pest list (2019/1702/EU Regulation). The main purposes of this work were to verify the presence of potential vectors in areas at a high risk of introduction in Tuscany and to ascertain the presence of X. fastidiosa in these insect vectors. Over 4,000 Auchenorrhyncha were collected and analysed from 2015 to 2019. Among the xylem sap-feeder putative vectors, most of the insects collected belonged to the family Aphrophoridae, but also many species of leafhopper were identified. Overall, in Tuscany four species were the most represented: Philaenus spumarius(L.), Cicadella viridis(L.), Synophropsis lauri (Horvath) and Neophilaenus campestris(Fallen). In 2018 an outbreak of X. fastidiosa subsp. multiplex was reported in Monte Argentario (Grosseto province, Tuscany). In 2019 X. fastidiosa subspecies multiplex ST 87 was detected in seven P. spumarius and three N. campestris collected from the infected area.

Liparthrum colchicumSemenov (Coleoptera Curculionidae Scolytinae) is a relatively unknown monophagous insect species primarily associated with thin dried twigs (about 0.5-1cm in diameter) of Laurel (Laurus nobilis). After being caught in traps located at Italian ports, it was initially considered an intercepted species alien to the country. However, recent findings, suggest that this beetle may have a different origin. Several records from different sites of Tuscany and Latium showed that it could be relatively widespread in Italy. These observations strengthened the hypothesis that this scolytid, harmless to L. nobilis, might be already established or even native to the country. Therefore, we argue that it could have been easily overlooked thus far, as it thrives only in twigs already wilted due to different environmental factors. Moreover, field observations, carried out in the two Italian Regions, evidenced high frequencies of its infestations in Laurel twigs previously colonized by Xylosandrus compactus. Notes on the taxonomy and biology of this species are also reported in the present wo

Aleuroclava aucubae (Kuwana) (Hemiptera : Sternorrhyncha : Aleyrodidae), native to Japan, has been recorded for the first time in Hungary. Several individuals of the species were found on various ornamental plants (Celtis, Fraxinus, Morus, Sorbus, Ulmus) at five locations in the country in 2014 and 2018.The currently known distribution and host associations of the species are briefly discussed, along with an annotated checklist of the whitefly fauna of Hungary
