The aim of this paper is to present a simple method for determining the high frequency parameters of a three-phase induction motor to be used in studies involving variable speed drives with PWM three-phase inverters, in which it is necessary to check the effects caused to the motor by the electromagnetic interference, (EMI) in the differential mode, as well as in the common mode. The motor parameters determination is generally performed in adequate laboratories using accurate instruments, such as very expensive RLC bridges. The method proposed here consists in the identification of the motor equivalent electrical circuit parameters in rated frequency and in high frequency through characteristic tests in the laboratory, together with the use of characteristic equations and curves, shown in the references to be mentioned for determining the motor high frequency parasite capacitances and also through system simulations using dedicated software, like Pspice, determining the characteristic waveforms involved in the differential and common mode phenomena, comparing and validating the procedure through published papers [01].

This paper presents an improved switching strategy for three-phase full-bridge converters applied to switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives. The modified switching strategy is based on the idea that in every electrical cycle the two switches in same leg of the converter alternate their commutating without using dead time. This drive method has several advantages including low cost, compactness, no dead time required, reduced number of switching pulses, and consequently reduced switching loss. The proposed method is analyzed and the experimental is investigated on 1.5 kW, three-phase 6/4 poles SRM which is designed for small electric vehicles by using standard three-phase full-bridge converter. The experimental results have confirmed an acceptable performance of this proposed technique.

The working principle of active power factor correction (APFC) technology is expounded. To eliminate harmonics and reactive current during the charging process of DC energy storage unit of the dynamic voltage restorer (DVR), leading APFC technology into the voltage control of DC energy storage unit of dynamic voltage restorer, the digital voltage control algorithm for DC energy storage unit of DVR is proposed and the design approach for voltage controller and current controller is given. Simulation results show that by use of APFC technology the harmonics and reactive current in charging current of DVR can be actively eliminated and both voltage stability and dynamic response of DC energy storage unit can be improved.

This paper deals with the comparison and dynamic behavior of a moving-coil linear oscillatory actuator (MCLOA) with/without a mechanical spring. On the basis of a dynamic simulation model, the dynamic characteristics such as a current and a stroke of the MCLOA without the spring are predicted for various values of frequency. And then, dynamic test results are given to confirm the dynamic simulations. Finally, this paper describes the influence of the spring on the dynamic behavior of the MCLOA from the dynamic experiments of the MCLOA with/without the spring.

This paper describes advanced brushless DC motor drive without position sensor for home appliances with compressor to reduce the pulsating currents and vibration. The proposed method limits the motor currents during starting period and reduces commutation torque ripple during sensorless operating period. Experimental results show that the proposed method implemented in an inverter for a BLDC motor driven compressor considerably reduces not only the pulsating currents but also vibration of the home appliances.

There has been considerable recent interest in the use of interior PM machines for field-weakening applications such as traction which require a wide constant power speed range. This paper discusses the requirements of example constant power applications; explains how equivalent circuit analysis can provide useful insights into the machine parameter selection; demonstrates the importance of the choice of the rotor barrier locations and number of stator slots on the iron loss; and summarizes other machine design aspects such as modeling, calculation of losses and optimization.

This paper proposes new control method of maximum power point tracking for the tidal energy generation system using the duty ratio control of buck type DC-DC converter. An advantage of new MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) control method presented in this paper is not necessary to use the tidal turbine characteristic at various tidal speed and measure the tidal speed or/and the rotation speed of tidal turbine for generation. Therefore the resulting system has the characteristics of lower cost, higher efficiency and lower complexity. Proposed control method was analyzed mathematically and tested by computer simulation using Matlab Simulink . And the fuzzy controller was applied for regulation of duty ratio.

Alternating current (AC) permanent magnet (PM) contactor is a new type of contactor, which coil does not consume energy during its working course. This paper proposes a new structure contactor and analyzes magnet field distributions of PM arrangements both on stator and on armature based on finite element method. The computed results of two arrangements are almost the same for making course, but for breaking course, the arrangement of PM on armature has much more breaking inertia than that of PM on stator for certain supplied voltage. Experiments of displacement versus time verify theoretical prediction.

Recently, it is increased to apply sensorless drive for BLDC (brushless DC) motor to household electrical appliances, especially in the refrigerators and air conditioners, to reduce the cost and the acoustic noise by the operation and to make their functions more comfortable for human beings. In this paper, low-cost sensorless drive for BLDC motor is implemented by random PWM (pulse width modulation). The experimental results show that the electromagnetic noise was reduced and the sound quality was improved by BLDC motor sensorless random PWM Control.
